Ed, it's been said Liverpool are considering going in for Juventus player Federico Chiesa Anything you know about that.

Thanks.

 1

{Ed002's Note - Federico Chiesa (LW/F) A third party has informed Juventus of possible interest from Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich and with sanctions this may lead Juventus to consider a sale, although they would prefer a new contract. Spurs, Newcastle, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal interest seems to have gone. Aston Villa interest will go nowhere. Liverpool would be an option but it seems unlikely as they seem well stocked for versatile forwards, particularly left-sided forwards. Spurs are likely to try and get agreement early on. Seen as a Felix replacement by Atletico. Ongoining injury concerns but a one year extention to his contract will allow his agent and Juventus to negotiate next season - and I suspect that will happen.}

I’d hope we look at his injury history and swiftly move on.

 3

20 May 2024 17:22:39
We should just swap Nunez for Felix. Nunez perfect Simeone type of player and Felix could play Bobby role perfectly.

 0

20 May 2024 19:00:50
Bobby was unique. We built a whole team around him and every recent player who gets asked who their best team mate was, says it was Bobby. You can’t just find some cheap knock off and try and recreate that. Nobody before or since did exactly what Bobby did. We have to move on and build something new instead of trying to turn a player like Felix into something he’s not.

 1

{Ed025's Note - outside of the Liverpool fan base im not sure that other supporters rated Bobby that highly MK, but there is nothing wrong with over-egging one of your own i suppose mate..

 2

20 May 2024 19:57:53
Brummy, Felix couldn’t handle the pace and physical nature of the premier league the last time he was here.

Hi Ed02, I know that Man Utd have scouted Odilon Kossounou Kouakou, the right-sided CB from Leverkusen. and allegedly he is a favoured target of Slot. It wouldn't be a surprise, given how solid he has been for them, the positions in defence he can cover and how injury free he remains. Is he a realistic target for any team and do we have him on our radar?

 0

{Ed002's Note - Odilon Kossounou (CB/RB) With Tapsoba, Tah and Hincapie all attracting attention Bayer Leverkusen will not want to lose Kossounou as well. Versatility to play at both CB and RB and has regularly attacted scouts from both Manchester sides and Real Sociedad, who may be forced to replace Robin Le Normand. Liverpool scouts may have noticed him when watching another Bayer Leverkusen player - but they have preferred options.}

Hi Ed,
With the amount of defenders Liverpool are scouting and “interested” in,
Do you see any possibility where Liverpool sign 2 defenders this summer. I think we need two cbs, 1 of which is versatile enough to cover rb too.

Thank you in advance as always,
Your information is amazing. I can’t wait for the summer to see what Liverpool do, and to know about in advance thanks to you!

 0

{Ed002's Note - If one of the others (van Dijk or Konate) were to leave, then yes. But with Quansah emerging and even with Matip and quite possibly Joe Gomez departing, the club could look to Pacho staying in Frankfurt on loan before replacing van Dijk and giving Sepp van den Berg a shot in pre-season. Joe Gomez' agent continues to talk with Michael Emenalo. Other fringe players like Koumetio and Nat Phillips will be sold in the summer.}

 7

20 May 2024 09:35:45
Thanks, Ed002! And sorry for short-changing you a 0 in my initial comment, lol.

 3

20 May 2024 09:38:49
Thanks Ed.
If Gomez were to leave along with Matip. 2cbs would definitely be needed as Konate cannot be trusted with his injury record.

 1

{Ed002's Note - So you don't want van den Berg to get a chance then?}

 7

20 May 2024 10:46:34
I thought you had said a few months ago he’ll be sold. Perhaps I misread.
I guess with a change of manager he might get his chance.

 3

20 May 2024 10:47:06
I’d go into next season with

RB: Trent/ Bradley
RCB: New signing/ Konate
LCB: van Dijk/ Quansah
LB: Robertson/ Beck

Gomez can cover every position.

20 May 2024 11:31:29
Ed, you did say that Liv is still looking to add a DM midfielder this summer with Koopmeiners being first choice. With the amount of midfielders at the club right now plus the youngsters that coming through, are we looking to sell any of our senior midfielders at the club?

 1

{Ed002's Note - Thiago will be leaving and the club will be worried about losing Mac Allister in 2025. They have looked at some versatile option who can play both CM and DM options. Endo is in his 30s but has another 3 years on his contract. Clark may get a loan - the new coach will look at him in pre-season.}

 2

20 May 2024 11:53:34
We’d be daft not to give Sepp a chance. He’s statistically the best under 23 defender in Germany this season ahead of Pacho and Hincapie, he’s had a great season in a team who have struggled and he’s very highly regarded in Germany (its easily findable on whoscored), I think he’d excel for us under Slot.

20 May 2024 12:19:34
Alexis buyout clause kicks in next season? If rumours of a 60m buyout are true, he is surely destined for Barcelona or real.

 1

{Ed002's Note - There is no buy out clause on the Transfer Matching System. He may have a separate agreement with the club - I don't know.}

 1

20 May 2024 13:05:00
Ed002, where is it Mac Allister wants to go next summer?

 0

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware he does want to go but Real Madrid have him on their list for next year.}

 2

20 May 2024 13:44:06
The only scenario that Real Madrid can have Macca is one whereby we can take our pick from Tchouameni, Camavinga or Valverde.

 4

20 May 2024 14:41:46
I think it'd be sad to see JG go to the Saudi league - he'd be first choice for most teams in the PL, only 27 (in a few days) and I still think he can play a massive role for us.

 4

20 May 2024 15:28:29
Interesting Ed regarding the Macca on Madrid list for 2025. Just curious Ed, how far do clubs really plan their transfer stuff? Do clubs really planning their transfer 1 or 2 years early?

 0

{Ed002's Note - Clubs maintain a changing list of players they are interested in. For 2025 Mac Allister is on their list and they could try and persuade Alexander-Arnold's agent to have hisclient run down his contract.}

 4

20 May 2024 19:35:56
Regardless of whether Mac Allister leaves, we should be lining Adam Wharton up for 2025.

 0

20 May 2024 02:42:01
Ed's what are your Jarrad Brainthwaite. He seems to be well thought of and as per rumours floating around he is in good demand.
Can't he be a possibility for Liverpool.

 0

{Ed002's Note - No, he is not joining Liverpool.}

 4

19 May 2024 07:38:46
Ed's, what are the chances of Antonio Silva ending up at LFC?

 4

{Ed002's Note - Antonio Silva (CB) Benfica say that "many scouts" have been to watch the player - perhaps they are looking for someone to pay his €100M buy out clause - a move at that price seems unlikely but PSG are keen. Juventus and Napoli would want a reduction in the asking price to make any move viable. Looked at by Spurs and Manchester United, and first choice for the latter. For Liverpool, perhaps a Konate replacement rather than a Matip replacement.}

 7

19 May 2024 09:53:17
Thanks Ed, Do you think Silva would be interested in joining the reds? Do you see Konate being sold to PSG anytime soon?

 0

{Ed002's Note - I don't think Liverpool will be buying Silva. I am not aware of any interest in Konate from PSG.}

 5

19 May 2024 06:38:42
Willian Pacho first signing of the summer Ed002?
How do you rate him and what are his strengths and weaknesses?
I have also read this morning that Slot is particularly keen on Antonio Silva at Benfica which would basically mean Konate moves on? Do you know anything about this interest?

 0

{Ed002's Note - I have explained before about Pacho. He is a left-footed CB who could be a long-term van Dyke replacement.}

 10

19 May 2024 09:55:11
Konate has expressed his desire to play for his homw town club one day, and perhaps his injury record makes him a saleable assest in Edwards eyes.

 1

{Ed002's Note - PSG has no interest in him.}

 7

19 May 2024 10:31:56
Pacho as a Virg replacement would be some drop off.

 2

19 May 2024 13:33:57
@Vango, I keep expressing my desire to play for Liverpool - so far nothing has happened 🙁.

 8

19 May 2024 18:54:11
FPF, why would he be a big drop off? He’s 10 years younger than Virg - who was talking about Virg on these boards 10 years ago?

Young, promising players to learn from people like Virg is surely the best development path?

 10

19 May 2024 19:39:45
@zeddicus that was me talking about Virgil all them years ago.

 0

19 May 2024 21:52:42
Pacho is 22 and already has a lot to admire.
He has composure, he has pace he’s decent in the air.
He has a knack of being in the right place at the right time.
He isn’t the calming influence that peak Virgil was, I think he needs a season or 2 at premier league level to develop. I like him but he’s not the finished product.

 4

20 May 2024 11:08:07
Zeddicus, are you seriously asking me why I think Pacho is a massive drop off from the best centreback in the world?

 0

20 May 2024 11:09:38
Have only watched him live once but I saw him get beat 'poorly' in the air a couple of times in that game and this would be my only concern as I think we are in general now a bit of a weak in the air team so we need our two CBs to be aerially dominant in my opinion.

18 May 2024 17:12:55
Hi Eds, Great work as always. Have we got any interest in Serhou Guirassy, who has a €20m release clause I believe. He may be 28, but has been different class this season and could have a short term Impact whilst Darwin develops? Cheers.

 1

{Ed002's Note - None.}

 7

18 May 2024 17:51:51
Thanks Ed002 and that’s a shame as we could do with an out and out goal scorer. Talking of great current African strikers, is there no chance of us being in a for Victor Osmihen, perhaps offering Darwin plus €50-60m? Or is he already PSG bound?

 0

18 May 2024 20:00:28
Guirassy Is just an average striker having a hot streak. He’ll be back to getting 10 a season next year. Plus at 28 he’s at the wrong end of his career.

 7

18 May 2024 22:16:37
With all due respect, I think he’s been the best striker in Europe this season - 28 goals in 28 games and is why Stuggart have done so well - and it’s how he scores them, usually through pace and movement and just seems to get a shot off from any angle. Similar to Robbie in this respect. . A late developer who if we had in the team instead of the Cult Hero, we might be playing for something tomorrow.

 0

19 May 2024 02:03:49
Joe, the several season before are a better indication of his ability. He’s had a hot streak, it happens. He’ll be back to getting 10 a season next year. At 28 he’s too old, this isn’t late development this is just a flukey season.

 3

19 May 2024 07:13:58
Agreed with VV on this. He needs one more season to prove that he's a late bloomer. Otherwise, he's just another one season wonder. Besides, there's no telling how he would adapt to the PL so to say that we might have something to play for if he had been here is just conjecture and has no basis in fact.

 4

19 May 2024 10:07:02
Shades of Michu about his season isn’t there. I have to agree with VV and Dracred here. Sometimes everything just clicks for a player and these seasons can happen. If he is a late bloomer like Giroud for example, then let him prove it for a second year at least.

 4

19 May 2024 13:36:09
I see what’s being said and I understand the caution, but if a player has the capability of doing well for a season, surely it’s reasonable to assume he has the same skills and talents for the next season?

 1

19 May 2024 13:57:23
Maybe WDW, but it’s rare a player does it in their late 20’s and then goes on to make that the new norm. Whereas it’s very common for a player to do it in their late 20’s and it turns out to be a 1 off.

Michael Antonio, Michu, Glenn Murray, Ricky Lambert, Roque Santa Cruz, Papis Cisse.

If a players looks average for the first 6-8 years of their career and then suddenly has great goal scoring season it can very much just be a purple patch.

 3

20 May 2024 09:12:33
Fair comment @MK, and you are right there aren’t that many that are still developing in their late 20’s. Like I say, I understand the caution, but the thought just occurred to me that why couldn’t the ‘golden’ period last for 3 or 4 years. Again, like I say, if he or anybody else for that matter, regardless of age, has the aptitude for this season, why not next.

 1

18 May 2024 16:32:52
Ed002. Thanks for all your feedback and thoughts this season. Really is appreciated! In terms of the upcoming transfer window do you expect our plans to change much once Slot is in? I'd expect he'd want at least one of his own ideas to be considered. Summervile etc.

 0

{Ed002's Note - I would not expect too much change but the thought of Olmo is likely his.}

 9

18 May 2024 19:05:49
If Olmo stays fit he’s exceptional. There’s a reason so many big sides have varying degrees of interest. That’s a huge if though. In 2 years he’s missed about 30 games with knee and shoulder injuries. I think we should steer clear after being burned by Thiago and Konate. Let’s sign someone with a clean injury record for the last few years.

 9

18 May 2024 20:14:59
MK, I completely agree. If Slot does want him, he needs those above him to say no. The lad at Atlanta is the one we want.

 5

19 May 2024 02:15:17
Olmo isn’t exceptional, doesn’t score that many and doesn’t assist that many. Very mediocre player with a horrible injury history, every year he’s had serious injuries that take him out of most of the season.

If he wasn’t Spanish and ex-Barca alumni no one would care about him.

23/ 24 Muscular problem 8 days 2 games
23/ 24 Acromioclavicular joint dislocation 53 days 16 games
23/ 24 Knee injury 37 days 11 games
22/ 23 Torn muscle fibre 35 days 7 games
22/ 23 Inner knee ligament tendon 49 days 13 games
21/ 22 Torn muscle fibre 39 days 8 games
21/ 22 Torn muscle fibre 39 days 9 games.

19 May 2024 08:33:13
VV, you can’t judge a player like Olmo off goals and assists. He’s more than that. That’s like saying David Silva or Iniesta weren’t that great because they had poor stats. Actually watching him play you can see Olmo is an elite footballer in his own way. He has the ability to bring everyone around him up a level or two. His ability to take the ball under pressure makes his team mates jobs easier as they have a get out of jail free card almost at all times. Throw in that he gets’s about 12-15 g/ a per season and that’s just a bonus. But you almost have to give him a free role. I think City will be after Olmo as a Bernardo Silva replacement if he leaves for Barca. Pomp’s that mould of player. It’s not about his goals and assists, it’s about how he helps you totally dominate the ball. Slot might think we lack a player of that ilk to carry off his system. Who knows.

Anyway, I fully agree on the injury front. His injury record is horrendous and that should rule him out for us. Find a similar player who doesn’t miss 15-20 games a season.
