I'll post this before kick off and hopefully it won't bite me in the butt but I hope Sterling doesn't get abuse today. I hated the lad for the way he left like everyone else but the media witch hunt on him the last couple of years has been disgusting and kind of feel for him in that sense. Not saying we should cheer him all the way but just treat him like any other player. It's done with now.

To be honest, any jeering which isn’t actually abusive should be encouraged in my view. It’s half the job of the crowd to knock the opposition off their stride, the other half being to provide a prevailing wind for our lot.

{Ed025's Note - i dont like it bardzo, water under the bridge for me with raheem and the moral high ground is to not jeer and boo opponents especially when they have played for your club, and it was disgraceful the way city fans did it to milner because he was an exceptional professional for them, thats why i say its wrong you will always get tit for tat retaliations and its all a bit childish for me mate..

07 Oct 2018 21:24:11
Oh come on Ed025, are you getting soft? I thought you appreciated a little schtick here and there.

{Ed025's Note - i do like a bit of stick stone but it has to have good intent or be funny mate, if its for john terry or giggs or keane then thats ok because they are scum bags, but good guys like milner should not be booed as i see it mate..

07 Oct 2018 21:55:09
I meant it from a pantomime villain viewpoint really. Anybody with half a brain will have moved on, I’m sure, but a good boo at an opponent who clearly doesn’t react well to it is just another weapon, in my book. You think countless fans around the country don’t like turning Gerrard’s song back on us? It’s the same thing to me.

08 Oct 2018 00:25:44
I agree Ed. You're class in my book.

{Ed025's Note - cheers stone..

08 Oct 2018 13:09:23
Agree with you Ed025 regards to Terry, Giggs and Keane being utter scumbags. Never understood why folk blow smoke up Giggs backside, having done what he done.
Back from game today. The usual chant towards Sterling, regards to "greedy bast**d" is so hypocritical given that nearly everyone playing for us as joined for more money.

07 Oct 2018 15:35:07
Interesting line-up, I can see the logic in bringing Lovren back into the fold, but I really hope we don't miss TAA when attacking. Not that Gomez is bad going forward, and he is a demonstrably better defender, I just think Trent offers more. Nevertheless, I'm really optimistic - Come on you reds!

YNWA.

We didn't miss TAA. Gomez did well enough with his crosses (even though he is far less offensive) . We missed Milner though, the moment he left the field.

06 Oct 2018 19:13:42
did anyone see the combined starting 11 for Man City and Liverpool? Only 2 from Liverpool? What a joke. Ederson in front of Alisson? Really? I can't wait to beat them again tomorrow.

Stayed up late night to watch the game but was really disappointed to see the performance from Starting 11.

I had the feeling Klopp will field second string players and go for a draw. Instead he went for a draw using all first team players.

I feel Van Dyk, Robertson, Milner, Mane could have been rested for upcoming Man City game.

I recall Klopps first season when he had put trust in young players and we had managed to reach League Cup final. But I find it strange he can't trust other senior squad players to play out away game for draws. I feel Klopp is being overconfident right now.

Ed's i have to ask you one question why is that except for one player Firmino all others have very little skills to control ball when its passed? Most have horrible first touch. I was switching between NAP-LIV and TOT-BAR, most of Barcelona players have magical first touch.

{Ed001's Note - they do not have a horrible first touch. Utter crap. It was a bad performance, it doesn't mean they can't control a ball because they had an off night.}

Ed, if I recall, one of the commentators mentioned the pitch’s condition being less than ideal and that contributed to some passes being short. In your opinion was that a factor? I’m not sure if this is just selective memory but I did recall the passes didn’t have enough “zip”. Either way, I’m sure the team will regroup and bounce back soon enough!

{Ed001's Note - the pitch was clearly a factor, as both teams were ducking awful last night and neither could string passes together with any kind of fluidity at all. Players were constantly slipping, not just over, but just their footing being unsound and making it difficult and the ball was bobbling. Players on both sides were struggling to make their passing accurate as they are so used to playing on billiard table-like pitches. It is understandable, and it was why the game was quite so bad, but it is not excuse for losing or for some of the terrible performances last night from three quarters of the defence.}

04 Oct 2018 06:34:24
It was an awful performance. Reminded me of watching Utd of late with no shots on target in a whole game we deserved to loose. So frustrating I hope Klopp tears into them. Sorry but Salah needs dropping to get his head right he has been awful for a number of weeks now. I know people say play back into form but he’s been a passenger and we can’t afford that.

{Ed025's Note - i think you are all going over the top myself westwood, yes it was not great but all this city will batter us at the weekend rubbish and klopp needs to tear in to them is a massive over reaction for me, it was a bad day at the office which happens in sport and liverpool still sit top of the league and are still the most feared team in england, napoli are a very good team and you were only seconds away from getting a result against them so its not all doom and gloom, my advice (for what its worth) would be suck it up, accept that defeats will happen and just enjoy the ride mate..

04 Oct 2018 06:47:08
Yes Ed you nailed it, definitely was not fluid at all. Am curious though, wouldn’t the home team want to ensure the pitch is up to par? It’s not like they are a defensive minded team who sat back anyway.

And for the defence, I assume you meant everyone bar Gomez? I’m surprised that we only had one body (if I recall) in the box when we conceded. Van Dijk was out in the wings and can’t remember where TAA was.

{Ed001's Note - I have no idea why the pitch was so bad, but if that was my club I would sack the groundstaff for that. There is no excuse for the pitch being so bad at this stage of the season.

Yes I meant everyone bar Gomez. Both full-backs were terrible, and van Dijk was sleepwalking and caught out of position constantly. I dread to think what that game would have been like if Gomez hadn't turned up either. At least he and Alisson were good but it was like we had Moreno and Clyne at full-back last night, they were that bad. In fact, other than Gomez and Alisson, no one played well for us. The midfield was abysmal last night. Let's hope they have it out of their system and can get back to form now.}

04 Oct 2018 07:35:58
Fully agree Ed, thank Fowler for Alisson and Gomez. Alisson showing again why he’s just worth the money. Do you think the atmosphere got to young Trent? Quite rare to see him not composed like that, but I’m sure that’s another lesson he’ll benefit from.

04 Oct 2018 08:08:46
I thought that when Hendo came on things might get better but he made a great tackle, played a great through ball and then became anonymous like the rest.

04 Oct 2018 08:36:09
Ed001, concerning the condition of the pitch. I read an article in September that Napoli would play their CL home games in Bari. Do you know anything further about that?
Why did they want to do that in the first place and why didn’t it work at the end?

{Ed001's Note - it was the state of the stadium, which is falling apart, that De Laurentiis was bothered about. He wants a new stadium in the long term. UEFA rejected their request to play at Bari, which was more about him making some extra money after buying the club.}

04 Oct 2018 11:22:15
The awful field conditions don’t excuse the lazy marking. Fundamental marking especially on the goal conceded. But again we will bounce back and go through. I’m sure many lessons were learned from last nights performance.

04 Oct 2018 20:06:50
Respect 025!

03 Oct 2018 23:17:13
Would have loved us to escape with a draw but it was not to be.

We could still win the group.

If we win both games against Red Star and the Anfield match against Napoli with a draw against PSG in Paris that should be more than enough to qualify.

If in addition to this PSG and Napoli take points off each other that would seal top spot.

Back at Anfield on Sunday which could prove pivotal against City.

Just came back from watching the game at the pub. Now that, ladies and gentlemen, is how you get your arse handed to you on a plate. History will record a 1-0 loss BUT it will not record the complete thrashing we received in terms of tactics, style, speed of thought, heart and belief. I can't remember a team slaughtering us the way Napoli did today. Shots on target? Big, fat goose egg. Nuff said!

I felt we were dominated in every way today ESP. tactically. Napoli played with a plan, a structure and belief while LFC played in hope that something, anything would click. Napoli outplayed, out-thought and outworked us today. They did to us what we have done to other teams recently. Had it been a 3-0 hiding honestly, would anyone have complained?

Also, Klopp was poor today, tactically. I'm sorry BUT when you watch that we literally did the same thing all game long whereas Napoli where very progress and showed a variety of ways they could attack us then you know we were in trouble. Example, Salah had Khoulibaly on top of him ALL game and instead of Klopp moving him to the centre or to the left and bringing Mane (his international mate) over at least, to have a go at him, he just kept him there on the right and Khoulibaly shut him down. That's just one example and there's plenty where that came from. At this point, I can accept the loss esp. when you have been well and truly outplayed in every way possible.

Now, I'm worried about Keita and how long he would be out for. On another note, Khoulibaly is unbelievable. I could not believe what I was watching even tho I have seen him play lots of times. He is the ONLY CB I have seen who could keep pace w/ Salah in a foot race. The guy is world class, IMO in every way as he lacks NO apparent weaknesses. Had we not gotten VVD, he was the one I wanted at the time. Bravo, sir. On to City! YNWA!

Hopefully and I believe it will be not be a bad defeat if you no what a mean mate.
By that amean a think we will beat them at anfield and still come thru our group so it won't hurt us and we not losing league games so all is still good there, when we qualify it will of been a good time to have our bad game as it will not of cost us anything, onwards and upwards pal YNWA.

03 Oct 2018 22:44:47
We played for a draw and it backfired.
Really odd game.
We thought we could get a 0-0 without much effort and be fresh for Sunday.
I’m glad it didn’t work as (Hopefully) it’ll teach us to never do it again.

A really poor performance from us tonight. I can't possibly think of any reason why Klopp didn't bring in sturridge on time (you can't always expect him to score a stunner in the 88th min) . Salah was dreadful again today, and maybe Shaq should have come on to change things a bit. Well, what do I know? He is the manager. I just hope we don't play like this against City.

I need to get this off my mind, so I can be ready for the weekend.

Think we missed either a Kieta or an Oxlade-Chamberlain today. Anyone agree?

Needed abit of pow and pop and kaboom in midfield.

Terrible performance bar Alisson, VVD and Gomez. How we are joint top of the league after watching that performance is baffling. Is it to much to ask a player to make a five yard pass, stay on their feet, win a header etc etc. Maybe we are just not as good as our fans and some pundits think.

Or it could just be a bad game against very good opposition. Ships happen.

04 Oct 2018 00:48:19
Its one bad performance, our first this year and the seasons over, maybe next year hey! You sound petulant, we have won some tough fixtures in the league fairly comfortabley without hitting the heights the lads are capable of, napoli are a good side and needed the result more than we did, the hunger will be back for city get so behind the lads and enjoy the ride!

04 Oct 2018 07:53:33
What tough games in the league? We beat team's we should be beating if we want to win the league? Our performances haven't been great bar maybe the first halves against Southampton and PSG.

04 Oct 2018 07:58:37
I would argue that we haven't had a good performance this year? we've not played "special" like we did last year.
