Couldn't get to the match tonight, and to be honest I'm glad.

I don't know what everyone expected, but this is the Premier League and there are not many mugs. A Monday night match away in London under the floodlights, against a team fully motivated with nothing to go for, and playing without pressure, against a team missing 4 of it's best players.

These missing players meant virtually disruption all around the team.

We didn't play well, but got a point. To be honest when I saw the team selection tonight I was very worried.

Look we have taken only 8 points from a possible 15 since the beginning of January, and we are still 3 points clear.

Our problem is we need to improve our performances as we are playing quite poorly. I don't think we have quite enough to actually win the PL and I don't think we will. I hope we do though.

Can't believe everyone was saying we would win the league in December and January not just fans, media and pundits absolute madness, worst thing we could of done just built a huge ball of pressure, I hope we can find a second wind cos we seem too have peaked whilst the squad was injury free, now the squad being exposed it's showing, getting rid of clyne just didn't make sense at all .

I see the usual posts are coming about how we are ‘bottling it’ and City are now going to walk away with the league, our squad isn’t big enough etc. etc.
We’ve drawn 2 games. Not lost. Drawn.
Utd used to get praised for playing badly and still picking up a point. They did it year in year out. That’s what champions do.
City lost 3 out of 4 in December yet you’re saying they will win every game from now until May? They lost, yes lost away at Newcastle a week ago. A worse team than West Ham.
Yet they are going to run away with the league while we never win another game and end up mid table.
Come on guys grow a pair and support the team. This is the best Liverpool team in 30 years who are having a blip.
Giving up on them now just shows they shouldn’t bother trying to win the league for us. Why kill yourself to win the hardest league in the world when the fans are so quick to turn on you?
It really is an absolute disgrace. You should all be completely ashamed of yourselves.

I agree with you there BB. The problem is we have drawn 5 games this season, and I remember when we missed out on the title a few years back because of too many draws.

while keita has his odd flashes, its like we are a man down when he's on the pitch. fabinho looked isolated and was overun everytime west ham countered us. We should have lost that match, we should be happy with a draw. The team as a whole were poor. lallana looks llike he will be useful for the rest of the season and is ahead of keita and shaqiri for me because of his experiance, workrate and creativity. Our best midfield right now is hendo, wini and lallana. Fabinho is only needed when we need to slow the game down or we want to play counter attacking football because fabinho is too slow chasing back. need the ox back and milner as an option in midfeild.

What are you talking about? Lallana did nothing defensively tonight and that’s why the midfield was overrun. Keita actually had a good game I thought especially second half.

05 Feb 2019 00:57:16
lallana is not a cm and he did more defensivly than keita. he worked his socks off and had to come off after the 60 min mark. keita looks like he's missing a few lightbulbs. He's really struggling with the pace of the premier league. he's in lala land and doest seem to know he's fighting for a premier league title.

{Ed001's Note - you really do always talk utter nonsense. The only one in lala land is you as usual.}

05 Feb 2019 10:23:34
Naby had the most takeons in the game over everyone, he had a shaky start, and Klopp also moved him to play in the half space start of the second half, but he was miles better than Lallana. in the second half after Lallana came on I thought Naby had a good game, he was recycling the ball and carrying the ball into the final third.

04 Feb 2019 22:36:33
Keita motm tonight, excellent passing, meaningful dribbling and switched on at the back. Gini and hendo must be quaking in their predators.

Terrible performance again tonight but everyone try stay positive about things. City went through their bad patch before crimbo losing to palace and someone else. We will turn this around. Klopp is the man to do it. We will still be challenging for title come May and will still win it in April. Chins up boys form is temporary.

Blind faith at its best.

Win the league? We couldn't win a raffle
Some serious issues in the squad. No urgency or quality, players messing up simple passes, criminal has been a star since joining, now can't make a meter layoff, crazy!
Beyond disappointed with our recent performances. League is cities!

Who is criminal? Firmino? That’s some weird predictive text!

04 Feb 2019 23:40:50
oh grow up . we will drop few more points and so will City. supporters like you make us the laughing stock. Over reaction when we win and over reaction when we loose.

04 Feb 2019 22:19:57
This isn't a reactionary post - the world isn't ending, we're not all going to die, and City haven't won the title. That was though a really poor performance and a game we were lucky to scrape a point from. West Ham didn't offer all that much themselves but they neutralised us so well that they didn't have to. Add to that every set piece of theirs seemed to cause use to have a collective aneurysm and a point - as well as the fact we scored a blatantly offside goal and, in hindsight, the result doesn't seem that disastrous. Onto the players though.

Heroes:

Few and far between to be honest. Mane scored, and took it well, but even he was lacking his usual guile. Salah looked dangerous but all of his efforts on goal were tame. Nobody else really did much to deserve a mention, and that was the issue all game.

Villains:

Matip makes our entire back line, a back line that looked one of the best in the world, look woeful whenever he is a part of it. I'm not sure what I dislike about him most: is it his inability to tackle? His complete lack of cohesion with team mates? His constant shirking of defensive duties? Or perhaps his stupid dribbles he goes on only to inevitable hand possession back to the opposition? So much to choose from!
Lallana was really poor, and really slow, and just miles off the pace.
Milner was miles off the pace and just make mistake after mistake, he looks incapable of playing right back effectively.
Robertson offered nothing in attack, looked ragged and out of position in defence and was bested by Antonio for the entirety of the game.
Van Dijk looked casual and only really switched on second half.
Keita contributed little but looked better after Lallana went off. Their is potential, he needs to be given more of a free reign to use it.
Fabinho was OK but, until Keita dropped back with him upon Lallana's departure he looked overrun and struggled.
Firmino was woeful, from work rate to passing, to link up, everything was bad, one to forget for the lad.

Special mention:

The ref. He was abysmal. This is not the blame game - I am not saying he was abysmal for us, I am saying he was just generally abysmal for everyone. Seemed to get decision after decision wrong, impressive.

What does it all mean?

Not a lot to be fair. We are still 3 points ahead of City. We are undergoing a lull in form which is coinciding with numerous injury issues - how we missed a Henderson or a Wijinaldum today. Right back is clearly an area of huge weakness as well and one I would expect the club to address this summer. In short a team missing a number of key players played really poorly but still managed to scrape a point. and perhaps could've won if Origi had some actual finishing ability (though he was, like the first goal, massively offside) . Never the less, though we ain't playing well, we are grinding through. Nothing is won or lost yet, so let's not talk like it is. Focus on the next game, as it always should be, get the points and move on. Worrying about City is pointless - the only team we need to focus on is ourselves.

Letting Clyne go was a mistake. Would he have done worse than Henderson against Leicester Or Milner against West Ham? I don't think so.
However, his presence would've allowed us to play Hendo in midfield against Leicester and Milner in midfield today, which would've helped.
I know Clyne hasn't played in a while, but if I was the coach, I wouldn't let anyone leave in January when I'm leading a title charge. Everyone stays till May, then you can start releasing players.
Also, the 2nd half of the season is always tougher on players and that's when you really need a large squad.

Actually yeah he would be worse than Hendo or Milner, he was a terrible player for us. I would rather play a kid than Milner though, he’s not suited to right back.

04 Feb 2019 22:49:20
He started two games and has performed as we would expect, not Great but he is a right back. I get your point, I don’t think teams would look at targeting Clyne the same way they would a hendo or Milner starting there, for one, he’s a lot quicker than either.
