Any interest from LFC in Exequiel Palacios eds?

TheScouseHouse

{Ed002's Note - Exequiel Palacios (CM/DM) Manchester United enquired after EP and were told he is not for sale but they have continued to see if perhaps an agreement could be reached now for a move next summer as they remain particularly keen and think they could lose Casemiro to the Middle East next summer. I am not aware of an approach by LIverpool and they have added Endo already. Perhaps an alternative to Gravenberch, Kone or Thuram for them?}

1.) 29 Aug 2023 10:51:34
Thank you. I hadn't noticed him before our links bit looking unto him he does seem to fit the profile we are looking for and could actually be more of a long term replacement for Fabinho while adding some much needed depth in the defensive midfield department.

2.) 29 Aug 2023 11:06:58
I thought Kone and Thuram was already a no go Ed. I’m thinking at this stage Endo will be playing much more than all of us think and he is the alternative DM to the others. Even Doucoure is a DM.

{Ed002's Note - They all sit there as options. Liverpool have added a DM and have other priorities.}

I know the Newcastle match has been talked about a lot but just want to say what an absolute tactical masterclass this match was by Klopp and his team. This match was a prime example of why Klopp is the best pound for pound manager in the world and we are lucky to have him. Anyone even suggesting Klopp should go after witnessing this game either doesn't know about football or is just trolling, the man is a genius.

TheScouseHouse

1.) 29 Aug 2023 08:41:55
It was a great win and Klopp certainly got the subs correct. But I think you’re fooling yourself if you think we weren’t second best even prior to the sending off. They bulldozed through our midfield with so much ease. I’m in shock other players have not been brought in to supplement the squad. Klopp is the man but he needs the tools.

2.) 29 Aug 2023 08:51:25
The ten men tactics were fine but the eleven men tactics were not. The team started awfully again.

So the result shouldn’t mask the issues that have been plaguing us either.

Praise where it’s due and criticism where it’s needed.

3.) 29 Aug 2023 09:23:12
Loosing one nil backs against the wall getting battered we score on the break! Tactics? We got out of jail.

4.) 29 Aug 2023 09:30:35
Sorry, The ScouseHouse, must have missed that masterclass from Klopp. Not really sure how what happened equals a Klopp " Masterclass"

5.) 29 Aug 2023 09:41:22
Spot on lads, in absolutely no way was the match exciting or enjoyable.

In people’s rush to provide their expert analysis, tactical breakdown and critique of both individual’s and the team’s collective performance highlighting perceived failings they seem to be missing the fun in watching a game and enjoying the game for what it is. Sad really.

6.) 29 Aug 2023 09:41:45
I’d probably thank Eddie Howe as well because his substitutions were just as important in winning us the game ?.

7.) 29 Aug 2023 09:48:47
Agree with that Wassa.
Would add that Newcastle were toothless and that's is a big reason why we got away with 3 points. The amount of times they over hit diagonals or misplaced passes when they had a chance to mount a dangerous attack was crazy.
After the yellow card trent was pretty much free reign for Gordon and even joelinton to go at. They both put a few balls dangerous balls across the box to no avail. I think we battled hard with 10 men and the subs made a massive impact for us but Eddie Howe, Newcastles blunders and Alissons worldie save were more reason for the victory than 'Klopps masterclass'.

8.) 29 Aug 2023 09:51:59
What I liked was that we were happy to keep it at 1-0 until the last ten, fifteen minutes. By that stage Newcastle would have been happy with 1-0 and we rope-a-doped them.
We were patient and knew that we didn't have to do anything at half time. We let them have the ball, punch themselves out and then brought on Jota, Nunez and Elliott late on and they started to get their players going the other way.

9.) 29 Aug 2023 09:52:10
So, basically style and tactics are far more important than winning a game, with one man less for the majority of the game. Okay. Noted. ?.

10.) 29 Aug 2023 10:23:33
Why do people bother watching the game if they get no pleasure or enjoyment out of it?
Never get my head round that one.

11.) 29 Aug 2023 10:35:09
Its only a masterclass when Mourinho or Carlo do the same thing?.

12.) 29 Aug 2023 10:54:05
ArAy, I think the tactics helped us win the game. I thought we'd had it at half time and would have been delighted with a draw. But we didn't need to score early in the second half and risk conceding another goal or two.

Flash, it's not always pleasurable watching us but I'd always sooner watch us than not watch us. The thing with football is that things can always change very quickly and I wouldn't want to miss that.
At half time in Istanbul, one of my mates was talking about going home but I told him no. I will risk losing five or six nil because there is always a chance that we could win a game like that and I wouldn't want to miss it.

13.) 29 Aug 2023 11:32:55
Hats off to Klopp and the players. They had their backs to the wall and we came away with a win on what was an emotional game to watch.

The players who started defended very well and worked their socks off.

I think a special mention goes to Gomez, Jota and Nunez who all came off the bench and changed the game in our favour for me. Elliot and the young Centre half also did well.

14.) 29 Aug 2023 15:44:08
Now you're cooking, @Redwillis1. I slightly disagree with one thing, tho respectfully. It was Klopp's tactically masterclass which made Allisson's save count even more, for sure. Newcastle not knowing what to do was mainly as a result of Klopp's tactical nous on the day and credit the players who executed the plan perfectly so let's give the guy his flowers. Apart from that, I fully agree with you.

Newcastle got shook after the red card and had no idea what to do nor how to do it. Sure we set up well to shut them down but their lack of imagination in the attack ruined them. They are used to going back and forth with pace and energy but once you take that away from them, they have the deer in headlights look when they play.

People in the media keep saying they had "tons of chances" BUT I have no idea where these chances came from cos after their goal, there was the AB1 worldie, Almiron hit the post and I think that was it re clear cut chances. There was a lot of running but nothing came out of it. I could be wrong. IMO, Klopp ran a clinic tactically (not for the first nor 15th time, btw) while the boys showed commitment, desire, know-how and patience. Hats off to all involved.

15.) 29 Aug 2023 16:22:44
Redwillis bet you’re chuffed you’ve been given the seal of approval on your comments ?.

16.) 29 Aug 2023 17:11:51
Jk im Absolutely thrilled to be seen
as cooking and finally 'receive my flowers' from Olied.
Defo beats being told I'm a mental for a offering my opinion.
What a day.
What a time to be alive.

17.) 29 Aug 2023 17:34:25
Klopp played a blinder and taught Howe and by extension, his loud mouth assistant how it's done out here in these streets. As for the opening 20 mins, I thought at the beginning of the game, both teams were going at it forcefully with high energy so there were a lot of passes going astray and openings were happening in both defences in transition esp. in the wide areas so for me, it was a wash.

Also, keep in mind that it was the very first time the midfield 3 of Endo, Macca and Szobo played together and with the way Newcastle like to play esp. at home where they want to impose their physicality, it was always going to be tricky at the start.

All that being said, they created next to next to nothing (almost same with us hence, a wash) and could not really open us up despite all their high energy and running at least up until the goal which was an individual error. Just my take.

27 Aug 2023 09:27:49
Out of all the players we have been REASISTICALLY linked with, which 2 or 3 would posters like to see come in and which positions?

For me it would be:

DM: Doucoure. Although I don't like the price, I think he would fit perfectly for what we need, especially if we are persisting with the inverted fullback. He can assist with the defensive side of the game and would make us much more solid and harder to play through.

CB: Hincapie. Arguably a more important position than DM to fill as the majority of players we have at CB are injury prone. Hincapie could play that left CB role really well, can also cober left back and is young enough to develop further in time for Virgils departure.

RW: Johan Bakayoko. Bit of a nice to have signing but would provide cover which is more like for like for Salah. He is young, left footed, plays on the right, bags of pace, good feet, eye for a goal and assist. Would be nice to get him in before salah leaves so he's ready to be a starter once he does.

That's my 2 + bonus realistic signings.

TheScouseHouse

1.) 27 Aug 2023 09:59:24
Realistically we won't be signing anyone until January when we are lingering in tenth and everyone's saying we told you we needed a centre back.

2.) 27 Aug 2023 10:15:29
I don’t think we’re going to sign anyone else permanently this window.

However i think we have a good enough squad to compete for a top 4 place.

Problem is we have to keep the squad injury free as soon we will be playing Thu and sun football with travelling to European countries for 3 of those match days.

Keeping the squad injury free is the biggest problem.

Baj and Thiago have yet to feature this season from last seasons injuries and Jones has lasted 26 minutes and Konate 180.

Throw into that we know we are losing Salah for at least a month in Jan and Endo up to 10 games.

Hopefully the Europa draw and then we don’t lose anyone in the international window.

Todays going to be an extremely tough game and will be a test to see where we are currently.

3.) 27 Aug 2023 10:31:44
Have no sense of what would be realistic whatsoever. So my answer is just based off the players ed2 has listed and my memory of where ed2 said there is interest.

Out of all of them I’d only go for gravenberch or Nunes.

Don’t think we need a CDM. CB is hard to say cos we have 5 CBs right now.

4.) 27 Aug 2023 11:07:35
I would like Liverpool to sign both Youssouf Fofana and Castello Lukeba.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool have n o interest in Fofana and Lukeba has already moved.}

5.) 27 Aug 2023 11:24:12
Not sure why some are saying we won't sign anyone when ed has told us we are trying to sign players. I also asked out of the players we've been realisticly linked with to avoid people saying mbappe or some other nonsense. Was supposed to be a bit of fun and for fans to share some insight into players they like the look of, not a catalyst for negative Nancy comments.

6.) 27 Aug 2023 11:28:55
That's a good point, TopG.
Maybe it's better not to sign anyone, that could cause disharmony and we end up lingering lower down the table than tenth.

7.) 27 Aug 2023 11:31:57
I don’t think we’re signing anyone else which is disappointing. Gravenberch shouldn’t be a priority and he’s done little in a BM shirt to convince me we should buy him.

- Doucoure for me would be the priority. He’s young, pacy and has aggression, something we’ve sorely lacked.

- CB, I’m not sure who as I’ve not really seen the players we’re linked with.

8.) 27 Aug 2023 11:45:48
Apologies scousehouse I thought this was an open forum site where anyone could share their opinion. My bad.

9.) 27 Aug 2023 12:07:03
Doucoure didn’t impress me the other night, lcb more important.

10.) 27 Aug 2023 12:08:36
Where there are links I would like Liverpool to stump up for Dacoure or Florentino. Yes it will be overpay but it is a missing key link in team. If they wanted to do it cheaper I would go Fofana myself but our recruitment team must have scratched him off the list for some unknown reason to me.

The only credible link in defence is Hincapie. I haven't seen him play. I like his profile. Doesn't look like he'll wow us with his football skills but seems to enjoy defending and that will do me. Looks quick enough. I d be happy if our scouts are happy he is the guy.

So I would be Dacoure and Hincapie and keep Salah. Do that, I think we are flying it for the season squad wise.

Then full focus on solving the Salah conundrum next season.

11.) 27 Aug 2023 13:09:05
JK23 the question was who would people like to sign not if we were actually going to sign anyone. From your reply you wouldn't like to sign anyone and are OK with it even though you outlined why were short of players? That's fine but wasn't really the answer to what I was asking for people opinions on. Neither was anyone else's an answer to the question if they said we won't sign anyone. Just kinda using it as a stick to beat the club with which wasn't the point.

12.) 27 Aug 2023 13:10:51
From what I've seen of him Davey I'd rather get florentino in too but I marked that as unrealistic since I think they're asking 100 mill plus unfortunately.

13.) 27 Aug 2023 13:12:09
Wouldn't mind Doucoure but he will cost a lot so the question is, does the club think he is worth it?

Never seen Hincapie, Bakayoko nor Luis play so I have no opinion of them, sadly.

14.) 27 Aug 2023 13:26:18
I would like to have someone like Firmino, but not sure which players are similar to him.

I would like to have another winger, like Vinicius Jr.

15.) 27 Aug 2023 13:26:41
I have similar feelings on doucoure oli, if he is deemed to be too expensive I hope the club pull a rabbit of the hat and sign someone with a similar profile. I trust Endo and think he'll do well but if he gets injured we might be a bit screwed.

16.) 27 Aug 2023 13:36:07
I feel we need another Dm but I would rather do without than pay around £70m for Dacoure. The lad from Fulham is pure class there but after signing Endo signing a 28 year old would not make much sense. I do feel even if we drop this silly tactic we have been playing we need a Cb played 2 games and Konate is already out and I have no confidence in Matip staying fit and even last season VVD missed a few games with injuries. Joe Gomez looked miles of it last season when playing Cb was ok playing right back. I feel if everyone is fit we have a very good team but I feel injuries are going to effect us badly this unless we make at least a couple more transfers before Fridays deadline.

17.) 27 Aug 2023 13:36:40
I d pick Dacoure myself Scouse house. I know people were left unimpressed with him playing against Arsenal in a low block but they seemed to miss all the dropping in cover he was doing in that game. He has a really good defensive brain and he is athletic also. Proven with his player of the year at palace that he can handle the prem. He would be my choice out of those linked.

18.) 27 Aug 2023 13:40:21
Scousehouse saying I believe the squad is good enough to compete for top 4 if we stay injury free is hardly beating the club with a stick.

It’s easy to be offended if you’re looking to be offended.

19.) 27 Aug 2023 13:42:20
@Haizan if there is one thing we don’t need, it’s another left-winger, surely? As good as Vinicius is.

The drop-off in quality to Matip, Gomez and Phillips is huge. I’m shocked that we haven’t managed to resolve this and will have the same issues this season (as it stands) .

Same old problem, not being able to sell these squad players that are not good enough and need replacing.

20.) 27 Aug 2023 13:51:25
People seem to have soured on Dacoure after watching him against Arsenal. I ve watched him more than that and I think he is a quality player. Against Arsenal he was doing a lot of covering for other players. Iylt was a low block so he was not shining on the ball in that game. He is very very high on my list and I would be delighted if we got him.

Least not forget t he was crystal palaces player of the year last year. I like him a lot. My only concern is not his pace. It's the language. That's not great for integrating.

21.) 27 Aug 2023 13:51:28
If Salah were to leave for the money can you really blame him look after his family nearer to home for him all that apart why not stick nunes as a CF see what he is made of or maybe even Gakpo.

22.) 27 Aug 2023 13:54:01
Haizan Gakpo is as close to Bobby as we could get. he's been really impressive when played as the striker and drops deep linking play like bobby.

I do worry about lack of cover in defence too grino and would make that area a priority.

23.) 27 Aug 2023 14:18:28
Still need 2 or maybe 3 players in. Honestly don't think we'll get any1 at this late strange. Van der ven is 1 we missed out on I reckon, looks decent. The amount of players we've been linked with and done nowt for weeks isn't criminal but isn't great either. A cb and 2 mids short for me. Jones and thiago can't be relied upon and unfortunately konate is injury prone.

24.) 27 Aug 2023 14:23:26
As I said JK that's fine, but the question was who would you like to sign. You actually gave a decent detailed response but it didn't actually answer the question and the beating the club part wasn't really directed at yourself as you seem content with top 4. I personally think we should sign a couple of players to aim higher than top 4 and actually compete for the top prize.

25.) 27 Aug 2023 14:32:01
Amine Gouiri would've been my shout to replace Bobby if that was to route we were going to take.

26.) 27 Aug 2023 14:38:41
Scousehouse i couldn’t answer the question because I’ll be honest apart from watching Liverpool games I very rarely watch other teams and only watch motd now and again.

I honestly wouldn’t be able to pick Dacoure out of a Police Lineup. Obviously you weren’t to know that and my response wasn’t meant as an insult to your question I just don’t know who we should buy.

As I said I think the squad needs more depth and as long as it’s someone Klopp wants then I’m happy if we get them.

27.) 27 Aug 2023 19:19:38
Palhinia for me. Age and price I understand are not ideal but what he would give us I think we should go for it. As far as a lcb is concerned not sure. But need one.

28.) 27 Aug 2023 23:19:40
Gakpo is similar to Firmino.

29.) 27 Aug 2023 19:38:07
Nice except Doucoure cannot pass a ball and is massively over-priced. Also Alonso has said Hincapie is not for sale.

I don’t know anything about Bakayoko to comment.

30.) 27 Aug 2023 23:28:13
Hopefully endo shines and stays injury free. 70 million for a decent dm is a huge waste of money for us.

Couldn't it be that he's wasn't expecting departures but it would be better for Nats career and he wants to play football rather than a bare faced lie Ed02? What are you sure klopp lied about in the past that makes you dislike him so much? I have been visiting this site for a few years around transfer window times and you seem to dislike Klopp and LFC a lot, which is fine it would be interesting to know why though?

I'd be happy with gravenberch as long as we get a dm too. At 25 Mill gravenberch is a really low risk smart sogning as even if he doesn't do great we'll get at least our money back and he does have the potential to be great if he plays like he did at ajax.

Whilst I agree that getting in the refs faces and abuse is wrong, the players and managers should be able to vent a bit, it's like they are trying to turn them into robots. It's a highly competitive sport with adrenaline running very high, players are bound to get angered at times. Hopefully the over the top stuff does calm down but I don't want it to be at a point where players and staff can't show some emotion.

I remember a Spanish lad who was in my class at uni had came over the summer before starting uni and I was amazed how well he spoke and understood the accent, particularly since scouse is supposedly hard to understand even for some Brits. His accent was brilliant though, it would be very Spanish accent mixed with the odd really scouse accented words. Obviously some people pick it up quicker than others, being a high profile footballer probably doesn't allow you to mix with the natives as much as the normal person though.
