According to fabrizio Romano, we have bid £42m for lavia, Southampton will reject the bid as they insist they will only accept £50m. It’s getting to the point where we either need to pay the money or look at other options. I get that we need to try and negotiate but when a team says they categorically will not accept lower than £50m, low balling is not going to work!

{Ed002's Note - From what they have said I understand that they will accept £48M but want £50M still.}

And obviously Liverpool know this and continue to send lowball offers knowing they will be rejected. Time is of the essence, the season starts in less than 2 weeks and we are without a recognised number 6!

{Ed025's Note - spot on JK.. hi in

According to some reports that 42m is with addons so likely under 40m initially but talks are ongoing still. must still believe a deal is possible.

So we spent a week deciding to go in low when there’s loads of teams after him brilliant!

Ed’s, any idea why we are so persistent to get involved in protracted negotiations? I thought it would be beneficial just to pay the £48m and get the lad integrated into the squad if we really want him. I am sure I read that he wanted to join so not sure all this messing around is doing anyone any good.

After receiving 52m on Hendo and Fab, why is LFC still toying around? Do they not see Lavia valued at 50m? They should just move on and look at alternatives.

It’ll be interesting to see what Lavia actually goes for if or when he is sold.

Ed002 if they said they would accept £48m is that all in one go or with add ons, I see something on the internet that they wanted £40m and then add ons.
But I would rather listen to you rather that web crap. I don’t get how we bid what we did the other day then it takes nearly a week to up are bid by about £3m. We should have got this sorted out it’s not as if there is a massive gap In are bid and what they want. I under stand Chelsea and Brighton taking there time as they are starting a good bit apart but this is very poor from us considering the money just brought in for Henderson and Fabinho I bet with the saving on there two’s massive wages would nearly pay for his transfer over a 5 year contract.

{Ed002's Note - There is a reason they want £50M. I understand £48M might be acceptable and they are talking to others about their interest. The situation with Caicedo is very different.

01 Aug 2023 16:01:22
Ed002 yeah there was a £30m gap between Chelsea offer and the £100m Brighton want Ed but at least Chelsea upped there bid by an amount worth bidding are new bid was a total waste of everybody’s time.

What about the money Chelsea have brought in?

£42m is not low balling. You're talking about a kid with less than 30 Prem games in the bank, and in his most recent competitive game he played a blind pass across his own penalty area allowing Jota to stroll onto it and score.

Lavia is not worth £50m. I hope the club move on because we have better players at a similar age (Bajcetic) . We're not low balling anyone. Southampton are trying to rinse someone for what is currently an average Premier League midfielder with the potential to be good in 2 or 3 years. If he was a £50m midfielder Southampton wouldn't be in the Championship right now.

This would literally be like Liverpool asking £50m for Tyler Morton because he's looked alright in 10 games in the Prem/ Champions League, and 30 games in the Championship. It's crazy talk. Are we really that desperate for new signings that we're encouraging the club to sign a Lavia for £50m? Mac Allister helped Argentina to a World Cup, and Brighton to a top 7 finish and even he didn't cost that much. Take a step back and think about this for a moment before making throw away statements like "low balling".

{Ed025's Note - the original bid was nowhere near £42m MK..

01 Aug 2023 18:18:29
@MK it is low balling if the selling club say they have no intention of selling below £50m. You may not believe he is worth that much and fair enough but they do and they hold all the cards.

Good Ed025, he's not worth anything like £42m. I have never understood the hype. He's decent for his age but he's not worth more than a World Cup winner because he had a good compilation on MNF analysis once. You see this every single year with a DM that has a decent game and Carra/ Neville nosh them off. Bissouma the year before wasn't it? Best player outside the big 6 they called him. Year before that everyone and his dog wanted Ndidi but Leicester actually kept hold of him and fat lot of good that's done them taking them to the Championship. Seen exactly the same with Kalvin Phillips as well (same summer as Bissouma i think) and then he was crucified publically by Pep after his City move for actually being an overweight training dummy.

It's always the same. Just media nonsense hyping up average Prem midfielders. So many clubs just seem desperate for the next Kante-esque gem but simple fact is that most of the time it is a one season wonder. They've pulled me in previously but I'm not buying into it anymore. Therefore spending mega bucks on a DM with one good season in the bank is just not something I'm going to jump behind. This year is just Lavia and Caicedo's turn for baseless hype.

We'd be wise to walk away if Southampton are living in complete and utter delusion.

{Ed025's Note - im not saying hes all that MK as i have not really seen much of him mate but liverpool obviously want him and know the price, i just think if you know the price they are looking for you have to at least be in the ballpark, if you dont think hes worth that then dont even bid..

14.) 01 Aug 2023

I sort of agree Ed025. But I'd liken it to selling a car. If you spend all summer asking for £5000 with no luck or concrete interest, and then somebody eventually rocks up offering £3700-4200 that gives you a decision to make. Some might just take it, others might not.

If Southampton want to hold firm on £50m then that is absolutely their perogative but i just think it's disingenuous to call it low balling. Surely not one person here actually watched Lavia square a pass to Jota and said "Yupp, that's the relegated kid i want to pay £50m for". Just because Southampton value him at that, means nothing. He's clearly not worth that to any interested party or a deal would've been done by now. On the flip side though, if Saints hold out until the end of the summer there is a chance buying clubs might become desperate and in my opinion, overpay. I simply hope that it isn't Liverpool who get desperate and overpay!

Having said all that the alternative seems to be a Brazilian lad I'd never heard of until Ed002 memtiomed him, so maybe we should just go with Trent in midfield and give up on a new DM because the market appears to have been wrecked by Rice going for £105m.

So we sell a captain for 12 mill and Southampton want 50 mill for a player that could go tits up after a season walk away the lad worth 10 mill at most never mind what edd 25 says if clubs don't make a stand clubs in near future will be asked 200 mill for players like this lad . And edds 25 that is why your club are in such a state paying well over the odds for players that really should of resulted in your demotion .

{Ed025's Note - but it never Albey, despite the failings of our board and owner we are still top flight mate, because we are EVERTON, the pride of merseyside, knock us down if you wish but we always rise like a phoenix from the ashes.. :)

City have a 20% sell on clause so £50m would get southampton 40m. Offer them a 44m loan fee and a obligation to buy for a tenner ??.

Could the Lavia delay help with raising finances, the wage bill has been reduced, a few weeks of delay would raise the difference to what we are offering and Southampton want ?

Ed’s if you don’t mind, re AT, I’ve read that he is a DM but can play CM too, can you offer an opinion on this point please re AT a DM as pointed out above it’s Lavia or AT, but is AT more versatile?

Regarding AT settling in, Ali could help and the other South American players would too.

Talking some sense there, MKS. Btw, clubs do this all the time but when LFC do it, it's a problem.

Time to walk away I think. I like the look of Lavia, the HG factor plays a part as does City’s sell on clause but what Southampton are asking is to much. I’d leave the offer on the table and start looking at alternatives. Southampton will surely know now is the time to cash in.

@Ed25’, point of order if I may - Everton are in the top flight, however, Everton themself are far from top flight ?.

{Ed025's Note - "form is temporary" WDW, agreed we are a sleeping giant and are in desperate need of some magic beans, but sooner or later as Arnie said..."we will be back" mate.. :)

At last MK some sense. It seems that Liverpool fans just expect us to throw money around even when it’s not warranted just because a selling club says that’s what they want yet when we are holding out for a fee for one of our own players we are pricing them out of a move and blocking their progress!

If this kid is worth £50m and all of these other clubs really are interested then why hasn’t one of them just bid £50m and got a deal done? Maybe because they, like us, are not willing to have their pants pulled down by Southampton. At least we have tried to negotiate a more realistic price (which is still way over what I would consider the right price) . The other so called interested parties haven’t even done that!

Some fans just look for any reason they possibly can to castigate the club. We’re damned if we do and damned if we don’t.

23.) 01 Aug 2023
01 Aug 2023 23:12:47
MK - I'm with you 100%. The idea that we should just bend over and pay 50mil for an unproven 19yr old just cos that's what the selling club says is ludicrous. And actually, I think the real issue is that people are allowing their anxiety to be dictated by things they can't control.

Now in saying all that, I am on board with signing the kid. I think he has great future and potential, but if we walk away because we can't find a happy compromise between our valuation and what Southampton would accept, then so be it.

You couldn't make it up just reading this and ping now Saints want circa 60 mill for Lasagne, sod that put a bid in for Barella instead, definitely taking the pizza out of us Southampton.
