Gvardiol the dream obviously but seen a few links to Antonio Silva and Gonçalo Inacio playing in portugal. Any interest from us ed’s?

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool are not making any efforts for Gvardiol although two other clubs are in talks.
Antonio Silva (CB) Benfica say that "many scouts" have been to watch the player - perhaps they are looking for someone to pay his €100M buy out clause - a move at that price seems unlikely but PSG are keen. Juventus and Napoli would want a reduction in the asking price to make any move viable. Looked at by Spurs and Manchester United. For Liverpool perhaps a Konate replacement.
Goncalo Inacio (CB) Watched by scouts from a number of PL sides, including Liverpool and Manchester United, but no declared interest. Real Madrid offer a wildcard option. Sporting will accept a decent offer.}

Thanks Ed. Wouldn’t look at replacing Konate personally but if he’s going to start being injured the whole time i’d cut ties sooner rather than later.

Eds2 really strange comment you made about Konate because he is our best defender must know something that we don’t.

{Ed002's Note - These players would be starters - give van Dijk is not being replaced this summer then it would have to be Konate that makes way.}

I'd move on Matip, Gomez, Phillips and Williams a lot sooner than I would Konate.

Hi Ed, do you have any thoughts on Kevin Mantilla, Jesper Lindstrom moises caceido and alex Mac alister of brighton?
Does liverpool still keep them on the list for the summer transfer window?

Besides midfielder jude bellingham, mattheus nunes and mason mount that Fabrizio Romano has mentioned about liverpool target for next summer, do you have other names that liverpool have looking at for midfielder and defender position?

Thank you Ed.

{Ed002's Note - All of this has been explained.}

Konate is too much like Lovren for me. I get that he's a lot quicker but he makes so many mistakes.

Look at the Benfica game last season where he literally missed the ball and Nunez scored.

Then Brentford the other week stands out too. Mbuemo just brushed him aside.

Think it was Brighton as well where a player ran off his shoulder (McAllister maybe) and he shoved them to the ground instead of just playing the ball. Was a clear straight red card but he got away with it.

I just don't see this imperious defender others see. He has rash moments, moments where he panics, and moments where he is indecisive. He's just not top level for me. Throw in his injuries and why wouldn't we replace him.

Fans nowadays generally focus on players faults and mistakes, completely forgetting what that player brings to the table overall.
Klopp sees it the opposite way.
It is human to err, get rid of every player who makes a mistake and you have an empty squad.

28 Feb 2023 09:09:04
It's not just the mistakes though is it FlashTheRed. He has a mistake in him and for sure that's a problem to me, but almost more importantly is that he's only made 71 appearances in the last 4 seasons. How can you build a team around a player who averages about 15-20 games a season and has 2 or 3 bad games in that tiny sample size.

I am a huge advocate for giving young players chances but Konate is missing key components in his game and also can't be relied upon to play even half the games in a season. Why build around that? Just rectify the mistake early like we should've done with Keita.

8.) 28 Feb 2023
28 Feb 2023 09:12:56
Well said Flash. it’d be really interesting to know if any of the board users have ever made any mistakes in their jobs. I know I have.

9.) 28 Feb 2023
28 Feb 2023 09:40:35
I agree MK. I love Konate and he obviously loves us. But he gets injured too much to be someone to build a team around. If a decent offer comes in for him, I would definitely consider letting him go. He does make our defence better when he plays but not to the extent that I would bend over backwards to keep him.

28 Feb 2023 09:48:11
Konate will be replaced. Too injured and hasn’t improved because of it.

That's a very strange comparison, WDW.

This isn't a normal job. It's elite level sport where the fine details matter so much, and where our players are paid anything up to £18m a season.

I also find it amusing that both you and Flash are refusing to address his injury record. I'll play along with your poor analogy. How many times in your career have you only been physically able to do you job for about 30-40% of the year? Because Konate has made 10 appearances (5 times an unused sub also) in about 36 games this season.

I'm sorry but no amount of trying to guilt me, will change my mind on this. It's a huge risk if we gamble on both his fitness and mistakes improving, by building the defence around him. Not a risk I think we should be taking. Being sentimental at this level of sport is not a winning formula. I respect your support for the player but ultimately I want what's best for Liverpool and I don't think building around a sick note is that (though I'll hold my hands up if he proves me wrong) .

12.) 28 Feb 2023
28 Feb 2023 09:54:27
This is very left-field and feel free to bite my head off, but I wonder if City would let John Stones go? He'd be an adequate backup and would get more minutes than he has there, but equally if circumstances meant he had to play every game he is good enough to do that as well. Homegrown option too.

13.) 28 Feb 2023
28 Feb 2023 10:21:25
He's under rated thom43, but again he is injury prone. Not to the extent Konate is, but I really think we need to put more importance on signing players who stay fit.

When we won the league we only really had 1 player who was unreliable for fitness and that was strangely enough, Alisson. Pretty much every other player in the "best XI" started 80-90% of the games. We usually knew the team before it was even announced. It didn't even matter if Gomez or Gini had a bad game once a month because the players around them had built up partnerships and knew their games inside out.

We need to get back to that level of consistency. You can't account for freak impact injuries like Virgil or Diaz have suffered in recent years. But we have too many players constantly being wiped out by ligament and muscle injuries. This is the 2nd season in 3 where we're bemoaning injuries. That should say it all and its no wonder we lack rhythm and cohesion on the pitch.

14.) 28 Feb 2023
28 Feb 2023 10:52:10
I think Konate is still young and could be problems relating to growth, not sure because I don't really know or have the time to look into his injury history. Just wondering is he the type of defender who having come from a 3 centre-back formation is more comfortable playing that style but feels more exposed while playing in a 2, and let's face it, it usually is a 2 man defence that we employ with our attacking fullbacks.
I don't think the Ed was saying we are looking to replace him, but I think he's taking a lot longer to settle due to injuries, some dodgy decisions and the team's up and down performances in the last 18 months.

15.) 28 Feb 2023
28 Feb 2023 11:05:12
MK Scouser it’s a normal job if you’re a football player.

The thing is Liverpool ave 120m social media followers worldwide (or something like that based on the club release that accompanied the release of the 21/ 22 financial accounts. All 120m of us are ready to offer, completely unsolicited, an opinion on what the blokes doing the job aren’t doing right and what, in the opinion of the spectator, what they should be doing. So you end up with 120m eminently unqualified people assassinating 18 -20 year old for not living up to the spectators undefined idea of perfection. I’m pretty sure, as I say, that all of us make mistakes in our jobs but, we usually just get a bo! ocking from the boss not the idle, ill thought out (if thought at all) opinions of 120m fans.

16.) 28 Feb 2023
28 Feb 2023 12:30:50
WDW, and that's why we're not paid £100k a week. I really don't get your point. If you're paid that much because you are supposed to be in the top fraction of a % in your field then you will be judged more harshly. This is elite level sport. I'm an engineer but I'm not building skyscrapers. If i was I'd be on a lot more than what I am, and my mistakes would also be savaged on social media!

Konate is nearly 24 by the way. People talk as if he's an 18-20 year old player still, but the only reason he plays like it is because despite his age, he's massively inexperienced due to never staying fit.

I don't think he's a bad player. I just don't think he's good or reliable enough to build a team around. As i say, if he turns it around and becomes a mainstay playing 50 games a season for the next 6-10 years, I'll admit I was wrong. I'm just suggesting we be proactive and replace him before his stock is completely diminished because I don't see that happening. I've hardly abused him by saying I'd replace him. If I had a 40% attendance and my boss replaced me, I'm self aware enough to know that's on me.

18.) 28 Feb 2023
28 Feb 2023 15:57:57
Agree 007. Nowhere have i said Konate is the only player who makes mistakes. I've given my opinion on his flaws as a player. I then gave examples of when it's cost us. Lastly I have given further reasoning why we can't build a team around him due to his injury record.

I really don't think I've said anything unreasonable or abusive. Anyway, I'm bored of this now. If nobody wants to debate the actual point on Konate as a player then I've no further interest in defending my right to an opinion on a multi-millionaires (thanks to our money) ability as a footballer.

I remember a certain Steven Gerrard went through a phase where he was injured regularly. Can you imagine in that in today's media frenzy environment?
"Gerrard injured again he's made of crisps and crap, never amount to anything, get rid".
And with that THE player of his generation would have been gone due to the "wisdom" of online posters.

{Ed025's Note - he was too miserable to be injured flash, and would probably beat up the doctor if he was, horrible individual yet very talented..

20.) 28 Feb 2023
28 Feb 2023 16:58:21
Konate's injury record wasn't good before he signed for us. Wasn't he replaced w Gvardiol at RBL? The irony. Let's see if he can stay fit the rest of the season. I wouldn't be surprised or bothered to see him moved on.

21.) 28 Feb 2023
28 Feb 2023 17:41:23
According to transfermarkt Gerrard only missed 19 senior games through injury before he turned 30 and injuries set in. Transfermarkt have Konate down as having missed 53 games already and he's not 30 years old for another 6 or 7 years.

Is that really comparable? I think you're clutching at straws to add weight to your point. Any fool can see Konate is injury prone. I (and many others) said it before we even signed him that it was a crazy signing, to sign a known injury prone player the summer after a centre back injury crisis. Just call a spade a spade for once, and stop trying to make out Klopp has never made a mistake. You've spent this whole thread trying to tell me that everyone makes mistakes ironically.

22.) 28 Feb 2023
28 Feb 2023 18:47:45
Konate is raw (probably due to the injury time out) for me he has the attributes to be a great cb and a quality partner for Virgil. (He needs to stay fit for this to happen) He's fast, physical, can pass, wins headers. Is probably too aggressive in his trying to win the ball early and sometimes gets turned because of this. That's when you'd hope virgil would cover. Can he stay fit? Doesn't look good atm but I'd keep him because he's better than both Gomez and Matip. If we get someone better than him then he's a great 3rd choice and if we ever change to a back 3 then he's ready made. That's my opinion.

MKS is right in that Konate's injury record is poor (is he giving himself enough time to recover properly from injuries or rushing back in an attempt to establish himself? ) . I also agree that his positional sense is not great - you can tell that this is the first time he has played in the centre as part of a 2man pairing. I keep hoping he will get enough time free from injury to develop this as on paper he looks like he has all the makings of a top CB. So basically im in 2 minds about him. But if someone came to us and offered silly money then Id probably grab it :-)

How about Kevin Mantilla and Bella kotchap of southampton ed? I think both players also has a prospect future and quite good enough to replace/ back up joel matip and vvd and also considering there was small chances for southampton to stay at EPL next season. We also knew that we can not rely on VVD in every matches. Does LFC has put them as a target for the next summer Ed?

{Ed002's Note - They are just randomn names youa re asking about. It is a waste of my time to answer.}

Do you guys still trust Ed source when they never mentioned darwin nunez and luis diaz targeted by LFC but in the end LFC was bought them?

{Ed002's Note - Fine, I won’t provide anything further in terms of transfers to the Liverpool page until after the Summer window.}
