Evening Ed002.,

Couple of rumours Carvalho leaving in the summer, any substance in this?

Cheers
Drogie.

{Ed002's Note - I said before a decision needs to be made - I understand his representatives want him playing as it has not worked out at Liverpool. So I think there is a good chance he will move on.}

I think we should let the poor kid go. His best position for us is left wing and I'd guess he's at least 5th choice there behind Jota, Nunez, Gakpo and Diaz. I thought perhaps Jota might leave but he's forcing his way back in with goals, assists and winning penalties etc.

Carvalho's looked pretty good when he's played on the left though. Scored a few memorable goals. He just needs more gametime to get his career back on track now, and a full sale would be best for him. He needs time and patience from a manager which is rarely afforded to loan players. Good player, but the wrong one for us I think.

I think a loan would do him the world of good.

3.) 19 Apr 2023

Do you think Longthing? I can't think of many young players who've had successful loans within the Premier League as there is too much financial risk and media spotlight. And I'm not sure he'd step back down to the Championship at this stage.

Personally think we should just sell; maybe with a buy back clause if we strongly believe he may come good? I'd do the same with Kelleher too if he wants to go and pushes for a move.

What sort of team/ league do you think would be a good move for him mate?

4.) 19 Apr 2023
19 Apr 2023 17:35:19
Too lightweight, defs would send him out on loan or sell with a buy back clause.

5.) 19 Apr 2023
19 Apr 2023 17:35:52
We don’t use Number 10’s. Let the kid go before we ruin his career.

6.) 19 Apr 2023
19 Apr 2023 17:50:15
Connor Gallagher did well on loan last season. No reason to think if the attitude is right that Carvalho can't have a successful spell too. Be a waste of talent to just cut losses.

7.) 19 Apr 2023
19 Apr 2023 17:51:42
I'd loan him to Fulham for a season, knows the club and manager! can't imagine we'd get as much for him now as after a season playing in the top flight and it also leaves the possibility of him coming back to us if he catches fire.

8.) 19 Apr 2023
19 Apr 2023 17:54:48
Lad was flying before he came to the club! Serious questions need to be asked what and why!
Hope he gets a move and his career gets back on track!

9.) 19 Apr 2023
19 Apr 2023 18:01:36
I'd get rid of Jones before him.

10.) 19 Apr 2023
19 Apr 2023 18:33:57
Jones has been amazing recently and if can stay fit jas a bib future imo.

{Ed025's Note - come on ESX, he had one decent half against leeds mate, you will be calling him "world class" shortly do doubt, championship player at best for me..

11.) 19 Apr 2023
19 Apr 2023 18:38:59
Just up against top players for a place Jay, why does there have to be an inquest? People will say why did we go in for him but every club would have wanted him at the deal we got last summer.

12.) 19 Apr 2023
19 Apr 2023 19:25:35
Agree with ed25. Jones is not good enough and should be moved on in my opinion. Shame with Fabio, he is going be quality. I think we will regret letting him leave in the long run. Why buy him if not going to give the lad a chance.

13.) 19 Apr 2023
19 Apr 2023 19:26:32
Have to agree with eds25 have never thought Jones was top level although he. Was excellent against Leeds we will see.

14.) 19 Apr 2023
19 Apr 2023 20:39:57
Yeah I agree with Ed25 as well, jones is not good enough, full stop. We need to stop holding on to players like this. They fail to deliver, waste away the best parts of the career then leave for free because their contract is up or no one would pay anything for them. We need to learn from our mistakes with Ox, Keita and the likes. Jones isn’t going to get game time, so if we need to raise funds, there is £20 million for a pretty poor player that isn’t going to feature. I would snap hands off for £20 million for him, and someone stupid like Nottingham forest would pay it.

15.) 19 Apr 2023
19 Apr 2023 21:22:12
Jones has just turned 22, give the lad a chance. What do Liverpool gain by getting rid now? Home grown for all comps and he won’t be on big wages. He won’t bring in a fortune if sold at this point either, can’t see any point personally.

16.) 19 Apr 2023
19 Apr 2023 21:33:16
I'd keep Jones, a player there in a squad game! its fitness with Jones not talent.

17.) 19 Apr 2023
19 Apr 2023 22:11:08
Jude players like Keita and ox getting games ahead of him even tho they are leaving! Serious inquest should happen over that alone! The lads career has been stunned he’s a quality tidy player who hopefully gets back on track!

18.) 19 Apr 2023
19 Apr 2023 23:04:59
I would let Carvalho go personally. Don’t think he’ll want to hang about and play the odd carling cup game. There is no guarantee we’ll take the cups seriously next season. We didn’t this season.

Game time could be limited for him.

19.) 20 Apr 2023
19 Apr 2023 23:57:56
Difference between Jones and players such as Keita and Ox is that Keita and Ox cost more than £100m between them and Jones cost next to nothing but wages.
We need more players like Jones coming through the academy, not less.

20.) 20 Apr 2023
20 Apr 2023 03:04:42
Just turned 22 played almost 100 games across 4 seasons id say he’s had his chance and not taken it.

21.) 20 Apr 2023
20 Apr 2023 07:30:39
U luv a serious inquest don't you Jay?. Lad wasnt fit earlier in the season, now he is fit and doing well he's keeping his spot. Simples.

22.) 20 Apr 2023
20 Apr 2023 07:39:33
Curtis Jones = Jay Spearing 2.0.

23.) 20 Apr 2023
20 Apr 2023 08:03:25
Jones or spending 40 odd million on a Gallagher or sum kid who's looked decent in an inferior league. Jones allday long for me, just has to stay fit.

24.) 20 Apr 2023
20 Apr 2023 08:34:34
Rikintwirral, I think you have forgotten how poor Spearing was for us. Had a lot of heart but not so much ability. Jones has quality on the ball and works hard. Not the same player at all.

Personally, I think Jones should be kept as a squad player if he can show that he is past his injury problems. He is home grown and always gives his all when he plays.

25.) 20 Apr 2023
20 Apr 2023 09:27:31
For me best option is a loan, he’s a talented kid and may just need a season somewhere to help him push on. If he’s not going to be even in match day squads, then give him a season away to build experience, strength and confidence.

Far far too early to sell him.

26.) 20 Apr 2023
20 Apr 2023 09:28:10
Some awful takes on here about Jones.
Nobody claimed the lads a world beater, but every player in a squad doesn’t have to be a world beater.
He’s decent, he’s premier league level, anybody denying that is strange. He’s local, he’s on little money and he never kicks up a fuss over lack of minutes.

If you cannot see the benefit of having players like that around I don’t know what to say.
It’s as if some of you think jones us taking judes place or something.

27.) 20 Apr 2023
20 Apr 2023 10:05:20
Sometimes the player will want a clean break to restart his career and that’s fine. Coming to the club when it was about to have one of its crappiest seasons in a while won’t have helped but you also have to question where he was going to fit in?
At least he has the balls to say thanks but I’ll move on and not waste his career. Talented player for the right club, just not us it seems.

28.) 20 Apr 2023
20 Apr 2023 10:22:32
Jones is def above Championship level, Thiago apart, he is the only player willing or has the ability to take a ball in any tight situation and get forward, his feet are quick and he gives his all, been unlucky with injury, is a very good player.

29.) 20 Apr 2023
20 Apr 2023 11:31:28
In Carvalho's case aswell, maybe we didn't factor in how well Ben Doak was going to settle in also. Probably more suited to the way we play than Carvalho.

30.) 20 Apr 2023
20 Apr 2023 12:49:58
Ed’s if I may ask, is a loan fee equivalent monetary value to the loss of value of a player through the timespan on loan (as he devalues as contract runs down for half or whole season)?

Carvaliho imo should go on loan, also Kelleher (maybe 2 seasons), keep the younger players on books but loans with fees, see how they develop or increase in value maybe.

{Ed002's Note - No it is unrelated.}

31.) 20 Apr 2023
20 Apr 2023 13:31:07
Thank you Ed’s,

32.) 20 Apr 2023
20 Apr 2023 17:52:48
Jones needs to learn when to make a pass instead of going into yet another blind alley. Then he might be a player.

33.) 20 Apr 2023
20 Apr 2023 19:30:10
I agree he needs to pass it quicker and not turn into danger. He reminds me of my lads under 12's, they hold on to the ball don't see the bigger picture get tackled move over.

34.) 20 Apr 2023
20 Apr 2023 19:42:50
Jones is decidedly average. But keep in squad for me.

35.) 20 Apr 2023
20 Apr 2023 19:59:23
I think part of our tactics this season is draw players onto you (man on the ball), meaning more space for other teammates, exploiting that space with a couple of passes preferably one touch.

Conversely if leading, control the ball and move the other team around, again exploiting the space created.

Drawing the man normally two onto you is a change that takes time to adapt, it appears the correct technical type players too in the middle of the park for sure or a proper pre season. There’s been a number of incoming with fractured pre season this last summer, long term injury to one or two players, with Gapko joining recently too.

I do believe next season will be much improved.

36.) 21 Apr 2023
21 Apr 2023 10:24:05
I think Carvalho should go on loan too. Disagree on loans not being successful as we seem to have a really good relationship with Blackburn of late. Elliotts loan there was certainly a success and he came straight back into the first. Morton has played regularly for them this season with 39 appearances. I hope he goes there. Even better if they get promoted this season and they are in with a shout of the playoffs.

37.) 21 Apr 2023
21 Apr 2023 11:58:24
Why doesn't Everton buy jones - fit in well with their lot.
