Hi ed1, hope you're well mate. How many players do you think we will end up signing and what positions you think will be a priority? Cheers.

{Ed001's Note - probably 3 or 4 I think, with midfield as the priority.}

3 or 4 quality signings will hopefully be enough with at least 2 going straight into the starting 11.

3 CM’s and one top class LCB

Ugarte (DM)
McAllister (CM / AM)
Thuram (B2B Dynamite)
LCB.

{Ed002's Note - obviously not Ufarte.}

Not like you to resort to name calling ed002, although that was genius!

I’d agree Danish King but we won’t be getting Ugarte, ED02 has explained the reasons for that. I’m sure there will be other alternatives. I’d be happy with MacAllister and Thuram for sure. I am surprised we aren’t also interested in Caicedo too.

Ed002 you said sporting don’t want to do business with us but if we bid the release clause is there anything they could do to stop us signing him.

{Ed002's Note - I am told there is agreement for him to go elsewhere as of yesterday. Liverpool would do better to act responsibly.}

Going off the rumours and klopps previous I'd say

Sutalo, cheap similar to a klavan signing and allows us to spend elsewhere. Allow Phillips and matip to move on and possibly return for his compatriot gvardiol next year if Leipzig price him out of a move this summer

McAllister, seems a matter of when not if at this point

Lavia, seems the most likely Cdm signing and is very much a klopp signing judging off his past record. Will also qualify as home grown

Lastly I'd say timber if he could be signed for a reasonable price and allow him to play right back with Trent pushed into midfield although he could also do a job at centre back.

I have a feeling we're going in for Yuri. Unfounded other than gut instinct here!

Liverpool do not seem to be shopping in what's regarded as the upper tier right now, Enzo le fee could be a bargain for whoever gets him.

I think the minimum we need is two midfielders who can come in and be starters from day one, a central defender who can maybe be third choice but challenge VVD and Konate for a starting spot and another midfielder who may be a bit younger and need time to adjust.

We need to trim the squad size, Bobby, Ox, Keita, Milner all confirmed to go and possibly another couple to be sold, I’d like us to sign 3/ 4 players who will be fighting for starting places, quality over quantity.

Who do you think we will push for Ed001?

{Ed001's Note - I have no idea sorry.}

Is someone able to point me in the direction of when we ever shopped in the upper tier lol.

13.) 28 May 2023

Becker and Van Dijk.

14.) 28 May 2023

Debatable if Allison no VVD we’re top tier when we signed them. But if we want to make that case, then sure there are those 2. Anyone else in the last 20 or so years?

You asked to be pointed in the direction, you have been .

28 May 2023 06:55:27
still arguable that those two, at that time, are examples of players at the top tier of world football. so it's a bit of a stretch and again, two debatable examples as exceptions is hardly a period where we've been shopping in the upper tier. Think that's a bit of a fantasy that one.

{Ed001's Note - if two record signings are not top tier then we may as well give up. The only fantasy is denying that those two were not at the top tier when we bought them.}

Nunez must be considered a top tier signing. He will end up our record signing. Hopefully he will justify it.

18.) 28 May 2023
28 May 2023 07:50:13
Faithinworks, a world record fee of £70 million for a defender at the time. I also recall Becker being regarded as a top tier goalkeeper, who was rumoured to be signing for Real Madrid at the time. You are on a loser debating this one.
I only hope we sign that kind of transformative talent in the summer, as those 2 world class signings turned us into champions instead of also rans.

19.) 28 May 2023
28 May 2023 07:49:38
ed1 - for me, I said arguable because I don't recall the general consensus being that we were signing two genuine world class players.
Ed2 said we wanted Oblak before Allison, nice to have a good backup I suppose!

But as I said, happy to give them two up as examples of two occasions over the last 20-odd years we've shopped at the Upper Tier.

{Ed001's Note - if that is how you are judging it then you will only ever see two or three top tier players in the game at a time. We may have wanted Oblak first, but Allison was clearly better and it was a lucky day that we got him. I am not sure how that matters? Rodri was second choice to Fred by Citeh, what is the relevance of who was wanted?}

28 May 2023 08:26:10
Those are the type is signings we need now. Transformative signings who go into the side and become our best players.

21.) 28 May 2023
28 May 2023 02:45:36
If you don’t mind me asking ed who has the agreement with Ugarte? I hope it’s not Chelsea. Last I read it was between them and PSG.

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea has an agreement with the player and his agent and have made a proposal to Sporting.}

Allison and VVD were a 100 percent top class. Silly to say otherwise.
