Anyone who doubts conor Gallagher and mason mount to liverpool should look at who we have leaving keita and oxelade Chamberlain. The 2 lads from chelsea would offer way more than our 2 on the pitch and they are english which would help with the british qouter needed. Gallagher and mount aren't my first choice and might not end up with us but both offer a lot more than keita and ox.

I think both have something to offer. You say that they are not your first choice. Who would you prefer?

If the only criteria is that a new signing offer more than Keita and Ox then I have a couple of traffic cones I'd be willing to sell for £10 million each.

12 Apr 2023 22:19:25
They will also cost 100 million and not get us any closer to winning the league than keita or ox so don’t really understand what you are trying to say other than they would be better squad players to have. Yes they would be but we would spend near enough our whole budget on them. We need world class or potential to be world class starters not overprice homegrown squad fillers.

Ideally

Barella.
McAllister.
Ndikia. Free.
Lindstrom.
Rabiot. Free.

Yo jag ideally i would like anything out of ugarte, caiceido, declan rice, mcallister, lavia, younus musah, sangare, barella, thuram obvioulsy wishful thinking but if we are too improve our midfield this is the type of quality i am looking at.

I don’t rate Gallagher in the slightest. Would rather promote a youth player. If that’s the best our scouts could come back with from their scouting missions across Europe never mind the rest of the world then we have bigger problems than we think. Mount is a decent player but is he really what we need. A player that no one knows if his best position is wide forward, 10, 8 or centre midfield. He would cost £50 million and Gallagher around £30 million. As we are in the spirit of saving money what with the Bellingham saga is this the best use of £80 million?

8.) 12 Apr 2023
12 Apr 2023 22:29:25
All this Bellingham bullshxt is so embarrassing mainly whipped up by fans, content creators and media.

I live your positivity hailstones

But the benchmark for incoming players has to be higher than just better than Ox/ Keita surely.

10.) 12 Apr 2023
12 Apr 2023 22:33:44
OP, I can deal with Mount coming in, NOT Gallagher. No freaking way.

11.) 12 Apr 2023
12 Apr 2023 22:41:39
Jones Red. Good list so can’t complain there. Only issue is Barella will cost a bomb. Potentially looking at £80 million or thereabouts. If we are making such an outlay it sends a confusing message if and key word ‘if’ the recent news on Bellingham is true. Would rather spend the money on Bellingham than Barella and Lindstrom. Having said that, if we got McAllister and Caicedo and it meant missing out on Lindstrom I would be over the moon.

12.) 12 Apr 2023
12 Apr 2023 23:28:06
I don’t mind Mount. If you gave me the time though, I could probably think of 200 midfielders I’d rather have than Gallagher. Naby Keita is one of them and I’m delighted to see the back of him.

13.) 12 Apr 2023
12 Apr 2023 23:32:09
I think what we already have offer more than Ox and Naby.

Yes we need players to improve us but we also need players at a level to bring us closer to the City’s and Reals of the footballing world otherwise we won’t be any closer to competing for the top titles than we already are now.

What's the point of comparing possible incoming players with two players, Ox and Keita, who don't play? If our objective is improving the current midfield, then shouldn't we be comparing them to Hendo, Thiago, Fabinho, Bajcetic, Elliott etc etc? Or do we want to spend a 100 million on two bench warmers like Keita and Ox?

15.) 13 Apr 2023
13 Apr 2023 01:02:55
Personally, I think Morton or Clarkson can replace Ox and Keita. Agreed with ArAy. We should be looking to replace starting players like Hendo, Milner, Thiago, and Fab with better quality ones.

16.) 13 Apr 2023

Hailstones calling someone else negative? The irony!

17.) 13 Apr 2023
13 Apr 2023 06:00:22
There’s a difference between improving what we have and actually looking to compete with the top teams.

18.) 13 Apr 2023
13 Apr 2023 06:54:16
I agree with Aray.
If we are looking to replace Ox and Keita, then we should replace them with players from our academy. I'd say Bajetic and 1 other (I have no real knowledge of our top academy players but I'm sure someone will advise who the 2nd player could be)

Then we should look at replacing 2 out of Hendo, Fabinho, Thiago and Jones with 2 quality 1st team players.

Carvalho and the 2 academy players to then challenge the other 4 for starting places.

I might be crazy but i prefer Gallagher to Mount. He is better off the ball and showed at Palace he can score goals from midfield. Mount only ever seems to score when played on the left wing. Gallagher probably be half the price as well as he hasn't been hyped up as much. At Palace i think he was the best player outside the big 6. Vieira's system crumbled without his energy and drive.

Gallagher isn't who I'd pick overall but if it's between him and Mount, then Gallagher please.

I think if Gallagher comes in with another 2 quality midfielders then he could be a good addition to the squad.

Probably an unpopular opinion but I’d probably have him in ahead of Jones on current level and even ahead of Elliot on current development as a central midfielder. But that doesn’t mean he would always be ahead of them. He’s also young and energetic enough to give us what we need in midfield that Thiago and Hendo can’t do twice a week for 90 mins.

The problem is Gallagher could just as likely come in on his own if the other big name midfielders we are linked too are out of our price range.

Whoever comes in is going to be a massive drop off to Jude in the eyes of the fans so they will be facing an uphill battle from the off. That’s why I think another 2 quality midfielders would take the pressure right off.

Otherwise 1 will be expected to turn us around like we thought Jude would.

Offering more than Keita, Ox and Jones is a very low bar. To be honest having seen both Gallagher and Mount I don’t think they clear that bar very comfortably, Mount simply isn’t a centre midfielder and never will be one. He’s just another identikit run of the mill attacking midfielder who isn’t quick enough to be a winger and isn’t skilful enough to be a good number 10, he lacks the discipline and physicality to be a centre midfielder, players like him are ten a penny, Gallagher is a one paced road runner with no positional sense and a poor first touch. They’d be signed as starting midfielders not squad players like Ox and Keita. If we sign them then we’re consigning ourselves to mid table obscurity for as long as FSG remain in charge.

22.) 13 Apr 2023
13 Apr 2023 10:05:06
I really like Mount. We don’t have any midfielders who sniff his goals/ assists record. But more to the point, I think he has the energy, creativity and drive to do well with Klopp.

23.) 13 Apr 2023
13 Apr 2023 10:51:07
Would McCallister and Caicedo really cost much less than Bellingham and Mount? if were going to look at any of players mentioned above like Rice, Caicedo, Barella or McCallister we should have just gone for bellingham. I'd imagine McCallister'd be cheapest of them lot at 80m knowing Brighton.

A not so great first touch never hindered how Hendo played with us. I believe, for the high pressing system that we had over the years, Gallagher would be a wonderful addition. His main job would be to run, pop up with a few goals, and have high intensity. However, if we were to move to a controlling game, I don't think Gallagher would even be decent in that. His technical ability seems lacking. Really depends on how we are going to play moving forward.
If we are to move on with the new system, imo, only Thiago and Elliot, and Jones to some extent, can play in that system. All our other midfielders (Milner, Hendo, Fab) aren't suited to that at all. We are then looking at around 3 starters in midfield alone. However, if we were to revert to our previous system, we would need two at most. But it does leave huge question marks about where Elliot is going to fit in long-term.
Before any signings are made, I just want the coaching staff to decide on the system. Nunez also doesn't seem to be suited too much to the possession-based style either. But we bough him for big money last summer, and now whole season we have played in a way which doesn't bring out the best in him. Has been strange planning by the club.

26.) 13 Apr 2023
13 Apr 2023 13:09:53
Stay clear of both!

Mount wants a huge wage and is not sure of his best position.

Gallagher runs around a lot wanting to play all the positions at the same time and offers nothing else.

27.) 13 Apr 2023
13 Apr 2023 15:44:18
Not sure Mount gets to choose what position he plays. thought this was up to Tuchel, wait Potter, wait Lampard. wait, who's running Chelsea?

Aren't we also saying this about Trent at the moment? Some want him in midfield, some RB and some not on the pitch at all! Point is, if the skill is there and the right system is in place, the player will be effective. We don't need 11 world class players, we need a world class TEAM.

28.) 13 Apr 2023
13 Apr 2023 17:51:53
Lampard got the best out of him at both Derby and Chelsea. The others have ruined him and nothing seems instinctive any more. Personally I don't think he is the answer.

As for Trent, he needs to start putting a shift in as and when required.
