Ornstein and The Athletic reporting we're now increasingly unlikely to sign Bellingham, and aren't able to compete financially with Real Madrid and City.

We've left a gaping hole in our starting XI for two years, arguably missed out on major trophies as a result, thrown the towel in on entire season and wasted the peak years of some of our current world class players. To do this without having a deal agreed is bad enough, but to do it without even having a pot of money set aside? It would surely go down as one of the biggest acts of self sabotage by a top club in recent history. We have quite literally sacrificed competing for a small chance of signing one player, and no strategy in terms of actually doing the deal.

Klopp and Ward have really screwed up in my opinion. The decision to go into this season without strengthening the midfield and defence properly looks worse by the day. Of course, hindsight is a wonderful thing. Regardless though, it's set to cost the club millions in not qualifying for the Champions
League next year or going on any decent cup runs this year. What's worse is we probably won't even get the player we waited for. Having said that, it's arguably a blessing because i think €150m on one player is a poor decision when we need to rebuild half the team.

It’s all part of the same predictable playbook that they’ve been using for years. If there’s the possibility of a bidding war, we use our PR machine to say we can’t financially participate.

When will we learn?

Maybe because there are more issues in the squad than one position, as long as there's a back up plan then no worries.

I'd wait for the summer before sounding the alarm bells. There's plenty of time and just as many twists and turns. Nobody is giving up the fight for Bellingham that easily (including the other teams) .

Both Klopp and FSG would endure considerable reputational damage if we walk away with a whimper as is being suggested. And they know it, because they're not novices.

Is this rant all because of something Ornstein of the athletic has said? If you listen to everyone who is after clicks on their website then your emotions will be up and down like a yo-yo.

How about if I say it is becoming increasingly likely that Liverpool will sign Bellingham. Would that make you feel better?

Just wait and see what happens, Ornstein of the athletic has absolutely no idea if Bellingham will sign for Liverpool but he knows that be echoing what a lot of frustrated Liverpool fans are saying he will get millions of clicks as people like yourself will use his words as confirmation that they were right.

Shouldn’t have even waited until this year. Arguably the weakest the Premier League and Champions League will ever be and we’re nowhere to be seen.

Ornstein is rarely wrong and isn’t a hack who says things for clicks.

Truth remains that if FSG won’t sanction big money transfers without significant sales when we’re in the champions league, they won’t do it when we’re out of it, which is looking increasingly likely due to our patchy form and inability to beat teams in the bottom half of the table.

Anyone expecting a major overhaul or a big transfer warchest is in for a lot of disappointment this summer, the fact that we’re investigating extending Milner’s contract should be a hint, and if you genuinely believe that Bellingham is going to sign then you’re deluding yourself. It’ll be Nunes, Mount and any one of Rabiot, Tielemans or Berge. We should used to being a mid table club is all I can say.

Who knows what’s true anymore. It’s a different story everyday it seems. One things for sure is journalists have to make a living so they will make educated guesses to pay the bills. But I wouldn’t be surprised we put this out ourselves to drive down the price. I still feel we will sign Bellingham. Klopp will be telling FSG he wants him above any other signing. The boy wants to come and when a generational talent like that wants us above other top teams you simply don’t pass that up. Wouldn’t get to caught up in the media circus.

{Ed002's Note - I don't think you understand how journalism works.}

An act of self sabotage? ?
So we can't compete financially with City and Madrid?
What's new?

Like I say as long as there is a plan, Arsenal didn't get Mudryk but went and got Trossard instead, not a bad deal.

11.) 20 Mar 2023
20 Mar 2023 11:04:09
was it more or less likely Bellingham was coming when the papers said we were at the front of the queue? I think some, or a lot, of fans pay far too much attention to what's in the rags. And I don't mean just an interest in the news, I mean allowing it to then influence opinion on everything to do with the club.

For me, If Jude comes then he comes. If he doesn't then he doesn't. The people to blame for our current situation is Klopp for deciding to sit still and do nothing to strengthen the midfield in summer and then again in Jan. So, whatever we do in the next summer, Klopp will have to remedy that mistake and I'm sure he will. Bellingham or no Bellingham.

This is why I try not to read to much rubbish in the media.

I prefer coming on here and listening to what the Eds say (and they're rarely wrong)

As I understand it, we're interested in signing him and he wants to join us.

We've gotten key players in key areas before by waiting and as I understand it, it'll be down to how much we can afford to pay and what Dortmund will accept, everything else is out of our control.

Why not just wait and see what happens when the season ends rather than moan about what we could and should have done!

In my opinion, there's no one else I'd rather have to get this team close to where we were a couple of seasons ago but we're not a million miles off, we just need some patience. something that a lot of you on here seem to lack!

Victor I don’t particularly listen to any journos when it comes to anything but especially football transfers.

The Athletic are well known for putting a lot of stuff out there and most of it, as in the case, is conjecture and is designed to promote traffic through their website. Sky Sports have then seen an opportunity for clicks so have picked out this article and put it on their ‘Transfer Centre’ page.

The article is full of ‘thought to be’ and ‘it is regarded as’ to try to disguise the fact that the author actually has no inside knowledge and is just guessing.

As predicted though it’s got some all riled up and happily criticising the club for waiting for Bellingham when we could never sign him anyway. Journos rely on the gullible to read this nonsense and actually see some truth in it.

14.) 20 Mar 2023

FSG were never going to finance a deal for Bellingham. Someone said when will we ever "learn" I've learned it's sell to buy a long time ago.

Ah the sanctimonious Becker i can tell you now Liverpool will not be signing Bellingham. Your attitude and condescending attitude towards other posters is beyond nauseating.

The PR Machine will be doing backflips

Liverpool have a bad season: how can we possibly afford big signings? We’ve missed out on Champions League revenue

Liverpool have a good season: how can we possibly afford big signings? We’ve had to spend all of our extra revenue on contractual bonus payments. Our wage bill is very high, have we mentioned?

Ornstein is a good journo. Highly unlikely doesn't mean no chance. Personally think the club can afford 120-130 mil euros fixed with add ons upto 150 mil euros. If other clubs outbid us so be it. The player won't be forced to join any club in the end. Say MU bids 180 mil euros and BD accept, would JB really move there?

19.) 20 Mar 2023
20 Mar 2023 13:22:10
Last summer it wasn't Bellingham or nothing, though, was it? We were interested in Tchouameni and Valverde.
And for those that wanted a more 'realistic' signing, we got Arthur in on loan.

20.) 20 Mar 2023
20 Mar 2023 14:08:10
Rigsby - for the umpteenth time - show us the evidence of the attempt to sign Valverde.

You keep using it as a rationale for doing nothing and it is quite annoying.

Old Dirt McGirt, Ornstein was wrong about the FSG sale thingy, IMO.

22.) 20 Mar 2023
20 Mar 2023 16:28:37
How was Ornstein wrong about the club instructing MS and GS? That is actually what happened. It's no secret they have been looking for investment - they have been doing so for at least 3 years.

And given they formalised the process with the two IBs, it would be remiss of them to not test the market for full sale.

None of what Ornstein said was untrue.

A €100m bid was made according to the press.

That's a different article, Pelican.
January is not in the summer transfer window ?. Come on, you do better than that, lad.
Your article even mentions Liverpool making a 'return" for Valverde.
Now, what does the word 'return' suggest to you?
