Next bid for lavia is rumoured to be ready, £42.5 million with £2.5 million in addons, for total fee of £45 million, if true I think this gets our man.

Yep, read the same. Does appear to have come from Romano, so may or may not be accurate on that basis!

I’m pretty sure the bid is not going to be for less.

I read this online a couple of hours ago so we'll see.

Based on youtube -

Looks much more mobile than Fabs (last year or before)
Appears to have ability/ comfortable on the ball in tight situations
Couldn't see much killer passes (but not his role I guess)

Overall - appears to be a decent upgrade.

good plus if he qualifies for Home Grown
Good competiton to Bacjetic -- we will get to know if he has it in him to succeed at highest level.

Appears Lavia is ahead based on his full season last term
also he was with M City and they had to let him go as they couldn't guarantee game time. which if true is plus plus.

I always like players who want to play instead of willing to sit on bench (even if it means lower league or lower placed teams)

Romano is always spot on. This site is weird about him.

If Southampton refuse a total bid of £45m I think it’s time to move on. Hopefully that will get him though.
Now I’m not complaining but It’s crazy to think a 19 year old with 1 season of top flight experience is nowadays worth more than Torres, Suarez, Salah, Mane, Mascherano etc we’re individually. I know it’s relative and inflation etc but I remember us buying Xabi Alonso, a proven defensive mid and one of the greatest midfielders of all time for like £10m and it’s difficult to not draw comparisons. Not looking forward to the state of the football world when this bubble bursts.

He will be a Liverpool player by Monday.

Jordan Henderson training with his new club before any official Liverpool Sale announcement is almost as bizarre as his wage package.

Westwood, it's all relative mate (as you have said) .

Look at fees in the market at the moment:

A 20yo going for a package of over £100m + stupid wages

We've just paid £60m for a 22 year old who has no PL experience.

I think if Lavia were not a HG potential, his price would be nearer the £30m mark, which is not too far off what we'd have to pay for Kone or Thuram.

However, the HG status does add a premium as I think it was Ed002 who mentioned that there have been plans proposed to increase the HG squad requirements, as well as CT.

That's why players like Elliot, Jones, Kelleher etc are so valuable to keep hold of as long as they are at least decent squad players.

Thinking back to the days of Mascherano and Alonso, I remember the outcry (probably on these boards too, but I didn't start visiting until a year or two later) about us paying £20m for a 21 year old Hendo. Thant was in 2011 when the world record for a transfer was c£80m for CR7.

Paying £45m+ for a similarly raw 19 year old who will also qualify as HG when the world transfer record could be increased to £250m+ (and has been at c£200m for 6 years) is not as crazy as it first seems.

I too think he will be our player in the next day or two, and I think that, if the £42.5m + £2.5m is to be believed, we may end up making the "+2.5m" as high as "+7.5m" to get to the magic £50m figure, albeit that some of the add ons may be harder to achieve.

I’m not so sure this is enough, Southampton have history with us, they may just play hardball until we match their valuation.
If I was a betting man, we will have to get closer to £50 million to land this fella!

Good news, definitely. And now I get the feeling that at the same time, the Fabinho sale is proceeding (even though there seems to be a lull in the public's eyes) . I don't see LFC holding on to Fabinho and spending 40-50 Million, for his position, at the same time. Not bad business at all, if you consider buying a replacement for Fabinho for the same price you spent on him 5 years ago. I just hope crazy or obscene agent's fees were not involved.

Romano is always spot on because he reports what is already known. It’s like someone reading the news. He says what’s obvious or what anyone could guess. I can’t understand the raving about him. 90% of transfer news is speculation and he’s another one who rides the wave of mass hysteria for hour by hour transfer news.

{Ed025's Note - im with you RS..

Good addition and response to my post Zed. Makes sense but I just can’t help but be a little disgusted with some of the figures being thrown around these days. £256m for Mbappe. Over a quarter of a billion pounds on a football player of it comes off. Wow. Just wow.
I’m ex military so I’m no shrinking violet or bleeding heart liberal but I just think how many lives could be made better by that amount of money and it’s being spent on what is essentially the contract transfer of a temporary transient asset as Ed002 tends to call players. Yes I know it’s relative, and reflective of the sponsorship and TV money etc etc blah blah but It’s just insane. Right rant over, I’m off my high horse now!

{Ed025's Note - dont forget his £600m a year westwood..

According to the word on ‘Social Media St’ Mbappe isn’t interested in talking to Al-Hiilal. Are we seeing this as a sign that he is a good socialist - turning down the filthy, oil stained lucre. Or is just because it’s too much hassle to back-track on his ‘decision’ to play in sunny Espana in 2024?

Either way, I have to say, there’s a large part of my small brain that wants to see him stick it out at PSG next season and the quietly close the door on his way out on July 1st next year.

Super excited if we get him. Have to agree he's going to be a real star.

The one thing I will say about Romano, building on Razor's comment, is that when he says "Here we go" you can be certain the deal is done!

That’s kind of Romanos thing though is it not. Doesn’t really break the news but confirms what’s actually true. We and other clubs get linked to 100 players every summer but he only really gets involved when it’s worth paying attention to.
