I see Sterlings agent has just come out and said that this talk of leaving is premature!!!! What is Ady struggling to find the lad a club now that he has realised that we will not be held to ransome, wATCH THIS SPACE, Sterling will stay and his agent will be sacked and deservedly so!!!! This still does not excuse Brenda bty, I want him gone as well!!!

Olebiged

{Ed002's Note - If he refuses to leave and invokes the Webster ruling in December Liverpool will be screwed financially - that is why he has said this.}

1.) 19 May 2015 12:58:31
Hey ed002, I read about the Webster ruling and it honestly seems bogus. There seems to be a lot of legal issues around it.

My question is, do the club have the right to sue if such an action is taken? I read celtic's comments about the ruling and that they would sue any player who took that option. I do think it belittles the already ridiculous concept of a contract.

{Ed002's Note - They could take it to court, but not sue the player. I should say it is really, really unlikely to happen, but as of mid December this year Sterling could indeed buy out the final year of his contract, effectively making himself a free agent at the end of next season. It would not allow him to talk with other clubs outside of the EPL in January though. This is why I have repeatedly stated that if he does not agree a new deal by the Summer I would expect the club to listen to offer - regardless of all of the nonsense spouted by Rodgers on the matter. But I would stress that the chances of Sterling taking such action are very slim at best. If his agent has even suggested this as an option, he needs better guidance. Typically clubs don't like this sort of thing happening and they certainly don't like it happening in the public domain - sadly Rodgers is happy to air all of the in house issues with anyone who will listen.}

2.) 19 May 2015 13:03:39
I know you don't discuss figures ed, but what would it take to buy the year of his contract, a years salary or less or how is it calculated?

{Ed002's Note - His salary.}

3.) 19 May 2015 13:06:40
But surely this would have a very negative effect on his global market value, is his agent that short sighted that for a few quid now he could cause him long term damage?

{Ed002's Note - He could demand a £10M signing on fee and significant wages - that is what he might be thinking.}

4.) 19 May 2015 13:44:10
Not to complicate things further, but my understanding is that in other cases based on the Webster ruling, the arbitration authorities have stated that the cost of compensation should be the 'actual harm' done to the club by the buy-out of the contract, and not the player's wages.

Would this not 'actual harm' not be the cost of replacing the player or even the lost transfer fee?

Thanks for the insights Ed

{Ed002's Note - Taking random examples does not add to any argument.}

5.) 19 May 2015 19:04:56
But he is not doing any of this for money Ed :-)

After all the 20 year old world beater has a divine right to play CL every year and win trophies!

Joking aside, if he was to buy out his contract and thus become a free agent, am I right in saying that LFC would still be due compensation from his next club due to his age?

{Ed002's Note - QPR and Liverpool would be due money.}

Very saddened to learn of the passing of former youth coach John Bennison at the age of 88 proper old school bloke YNWA.

My brother was chatting to a former Centre Half of Liverpool at a charity Golf day and he stated that it is a well known fact that if Brendan does not like you (Personally) then you don't play. That explains an awful lot to me about selections. We may not put our best 11 out but we have the ones who are prepared to stroke Brendas ego!

Olebiged

1.) 02 Sep 2015 08:58:37
That makes total sense - if Skrtel and Lovren are our best centre halves at the club then we are in serious trouble, in fact I'm 63 and thinking of coming out of retirement - nah, the last thing I would do is stroke the ego of a man without a CV.

2.) 02 Sep 2015 09:21:51
John B, I couldn't care less about his CV. Everyone has to start from nothing and work their way up. Managing a top 4 club isn't the place to get familiarised with managerial duties but he didn't appoint himself, did he? The fact he's got no honour (as proven by his actions), but was still appointed as manager of our great club, is what pisses me off.

3.) 02 Sep 2015 18:04:35
A man with no honor cannot keep his word hence, cannot be trusted. Did not need to talk to an ex-player to know how he is. BR dislikes Sahko, Agger, lucas and the list goes on not because they are bad players and that is what is disgraceful. i played football at a very decent level and me and the coach never liked or disliked each other. We had mutual respect and that was it. but for BR, that is not the case.

Can anyone explain to me why Brendan Rogers chose to attend the City Chelsea game yesterday when we play arsenal before either of them? Would he have been better placed at the Arsenal Palace game?

Olebiged

1.) 17 Aug 2015 12:41:13
Two best teams in the league and we have struggled against chelsea. i'd go watch to learn how two better managers approach games like that.

2.) 17 Aug 2015 12:45:16
Can someone tell me why Brendan Rodgers has two years two eyes and one huge nose?

3.) 17 Aug 2015 12:46:12
Someone had to chaperone Mario lol,
p.s great job on the podcast guys. Sorry I only got round to listening this morning.

{Ed001's Note - cheers Simon, glad you enjoyed.}

4.) 17 Aug 2015 13:07:37
Maybe it was due to the match being in Manchester which is a lot closer.

People need to relax on Rodgers.

Him watching a live match is a good thing, fair enough it may not have been 100% the most suitable but that's only your opinion - it was 2 of the top sides in the league who we are supposed to be trying to rival. We are not trying to compete with Crystal Palace so maybe he could learn more watching City Chelsea.

5.) 17 Aug 2015 13:13:03
Whilst you make a very fair point, I think let's not nit pick for the sake of it. Maybe he's finally getting out and going to games. One step at a time.

6.) 17 Aug 2015 13:14:59
Complete spitball as I've no obvious answer but perhaps he wanted to see how they set up against title rivals as he thinks that's how they'll play vs us?

Meanwhile Arsenal will approach the game vs Palace differently to how they would approach us?

7.) 17 Aug 2015 13:34:19
He was looking at our new signings aguero

8.) 17 Aug 2015 13:47:42
Obsession to some fantastic attacking football, with Full back bombing up and down, DM covering them up well with CM dictating the play.

9.) 17 Aug 2015 13:59:35
Can Rodgers do anything right?

10.) 17 Aug 2015 14:52:50
Personally if I was BR i'd have gone and watched Ars vs Pal, as palace have constantly had the better of us in recent seasons,and arsenal are more likely to be our rivals than than Chelsea.

That said I understand why he'd want to go watch the set up of both those teams,but Mourinho typically sets up defensively against teams he expects to pose a threat. EG Utd 2 years ago with schurle up front,Citeh this weekend with ramires,us when SG slipped. I don't think his team set up/orders will be the same when he plays us this yearunless Chelsea are really off the pace

11.) 17 Aug 2015 18:02:38
Chelsea were hopelessly defensive against City. In addition to Costa having no effect, Hazard was kept under wraps and Terry was subbed halfway for. no apparent reason while Cahill, bloody nose still pouring, remained on the pitch. Chelsea need a wonder signing to get their confidence back after a poor preseason and being outplayed by Swansea and smashed by their rivals for the title.

12.) 17 Aug 2015 18:54:07
He should go to a match every weekend in my eyes, the more he can learn the better

Bob Paisley used to call it "The Buffallo Horns" it is a classic set up and one that is never outdated."Football is a simple game complicated by fools" Bill Shankly

A new manager would organise and motivate the midfield to deliver of that I am sure. BR seems inept at getting the best out of his players, he has lost their respect by the way he constantly breaks promises and the way he treats people.

This should be a game that the players do not need any motivation for. A loss as you stated would be almost mortal as regards player confidence so I would be setting up to firstly not concede so a counter attack offensive should be deployed. De Gea rumoured to be back between the sticks which does not aid our course.
