The latest rumour of Amrabat from Florentina doesn't fill me with excitement. Another midfielder that doesn't have goals in his game. We have enough of them. At 27 i can't see the scope for improving on that.

I thought everyone was whinging that our midfield was too old and injury prone?

It’s ridiculous to be disappointed with someone we’ve been linked with if you’ve clearly never watched them play. You’re literally going off a Wikipedia search of their appearances, goals and assists.

I saw someone else knock this guy because it’s taken him this long in his career to be linked with a big move.

If it’s someone who come into his peak over the last few years and doesn’t cost the earth in the weakest part of our team, why not?

Amrabat is 26 but i agree he won't add goals looking at his record. Never seen him play but would be a Fabinho back up/ competition i think. If we sign a midfielder in January it will likely be a holding player as we'll still have Ox/ Keita until the summer. 18 months on his contract might make Amrabat viable.

I'd rather the rumours of Bennacer from Milan are true. For one i've seen him play in the Champions League, but he's also 2 years younger. Quite small for a defensive midfielder but Mascherano wasn't too shabby for us. Also only 18 months on his current deal.

There is genuine interest in Joao Gomes too but he's another I've never seen play. Highly thought of though and only 21. Brazil season is finished so they might be more open to selling in January.

Then lastly there are the rumours of Rice who is still only 23 and an exceptional holding midfielder, but seemingly not actually on our shortlist and also guaranteed to cost a small fortune for being English. Another with only 18 months left.

I think clamouring for Enzo, Valverde or Bellingham in January is a pipe dream. Can't see those clubs negotiating mid-season when they're in the hunt for trophies/ Champions League qualification, and more importantly don't need the money or to sell due to contracts running down. I'm sure we'll make a move for Bellingham to replace Keita next summer but also, i'm not going to hold my breath over the success of that attempt to sign him!

maybe he'll come in and add no goals and assists like thiago.

We have a midfield full of those type of players. No goals no assist types, I could probably manage that as well ?.

No goals or assists from MF was largely due to the system that we played previously, as the MF's were cogs in a machine, cogs that self sacrificed to a certain extent. That is all about to change, or so it seems, as our tactics evolve.
Our transfer record under this collective is pretty good, as is the ability of the coaches to hone and improve raw talent.

Bettercaulsaul what's the point in buying a player that won't improve our midfield? It's a waste of the €30 million rumoured in my opinion. MK if you go through my posts I've said there is no way Bellingham is coming to Liverpool at the prices quoted. A goal scoring midfielder and someone to add assists would be a great addition. I don't think an Amrabat type player is what we need right now.

In the summer the argument was we have plenty of midfielders (10 if i remember correctly) and there was no need for anymore.

We still have the same amount of midfielders so surely people’s arguments should be the same. I imagine Diaz, Jota, Naby, Matip etc returning to fitness when the season resumes will be sold as they are like new signings.

If any CM signs in Jan it will be Joao Gomes. The club has interest in him and he has talked up a move previously. Only obstacle may be getting a WP.

03 Dec 2022 11:31:42
I don’t know anything about the players quoted above but I was hoping for midfield replacements that were versatile in their ability to play multiple roles and could get about the field with pace and with a physicality to compete in the Premier League.
Bellingham certainly ticks those boxes, as does Caicedo.
So someone of that ilk.
I’m not enamoured of more tippy tappy style additions either.

ORT is going to treat any signing of less than 60 million as an excuse to bash the owners.

03 Dec 2022 12:26:19
We don't really play with an attacking midfielder. But if we do we have Ox, Keita, Carvalho, Jones and Elliott all capable of doing it.

It's a strange argument to say there are no goals or assists in our midfield. Elliott and Carvalho have a few already. Jones, Keita and Ox have all scored goals when fit.

Throw in that Firmino and Jota can play off a striker and there are plenty of options.

I 100% agree Ox and Keita should be replaced with better/ fitter players but that won't happen in January in my opinion. It's frustrating our attacking midfielders supposed to be in their prime are crocks, but we're stuck with them for another 6 months. The main gap is clearly competition for Fabinho, who's been awful this season and is under no pressure to improve his performances.

03 Dec 2022 13:29:52
MK it’s ridiculous trying to claim we have midfielders who score goals. This season in the PL we might have 3 goals from midfield and we are nearly half way through the season. Our midfield for a top side is just poor no need to try to dress it up.

14.) 03 Dec 2022
03 Dec 2022 13:34:38
Who mentioned the owners Something Red? Don't start that argument with me i never mention the owners. MK as for Carvalho and Elliott they are not near the consistency level required yet. I'm confident they'll get there but unfortunately time doesn't wait in football. As for Chamberlain he had a good six months for Liverpool and that injury v Roma all but put an end to that.

15.) 03 Dec 2022
03 Dec 2022 14:09:34
The midfield used to cover up its flaws by out working and pressing the opposition. Now we get out worked the players flaws are there for all to see.

16.) 03 Dec 2022
03 Dec 2022 17:06:20
Shouldn't every midfielder be a defender and an attacker? They're not Sunday league players. Our midfielders spend a lot of time in the opposition half but there's no denying there is a lack of goals from all of them with the amount of possession we have. Should also stop saying Ox was a goal scorer, that's a long long time ago now and should be resigned to LFC history.

17.) 03 Dec 2022
03 Dec 2022 17:19:59
Mark we do have midfielders who score goals though. The problem is 2 of them are teenagers and inconsistent and the other 3 have all been injured most of the season. All of our midfielders combined have 5 goals and 3 assists. Elliott accounts for 50% of those goal contributions. I'm not saying it's not a problem, but it's not the biggest problem. We're still scoring goals, but teams are trampling over Hendo and Fabinho. I am fully agreed that replacing Ox and Keita is a priority next summer but the priority in January has to be signing a midfielder who can actually win a physical battle. Bajcetic is 17 and nowhere near ready to put serious pressure on Fabinho to pull his head out his own backside.

18.) 03 Dec 2022
03 Dec 2022 17:42:13
Someone needs to tell the big German fella then if this player is so rubbish.

19.) 03 Dec 2022
03 Dec 2022 18:01:39
He has finally realised that Mane so there will be incomings. I don’t disagree on the fact that our first priority is a durable midfielder who can get about the pitch, press and win his duels. That will improve the team and in turn help both the attack and defence.

20.) 03 Dec 2022
03 Dec 2022 18:02:26
It’s very funny that a certain type of fan always expects us to buy poor players and not buy players who will improve the quality of the first team squad, despite us buying players that have gone on to win one or two trophies over the past 3 or 4 seasons ….

21.) 04 Dec 2022
04 Dec 2022 00:56:41
Ed002 described it as a scraping the bottom of the barrel signing and he’s not wrong. Imagine going from Caicedo etc to a a journeyman mid table Serie A player on the basis of one good performance against a Belgian team on the decline. If that’s the level of player we’re looking at, then forget the likes of Bellingham.

22.) 04 Dec 2022

And here’s VVVV with the usual positive message, lighten up man,

23.) 04 Dec 2022

24.) 04 Dec 2022
04 Dec 2022 08:57:01
And didn’t Ed also say all you do is whinge and moan about every player associated with Liverpool when you said Mason Mount was a crap player and to give it a rest negative victor or have you conveniently forgotten about that one.

25.) 04 Dec 2022
04 Dec 2022 09:33:46
You misunderstood markp08 I think. Someone needs to tell Klopp that this Moroccan dude is rubbish.

26.) 04 Dec 2022
04 Dec 2022 10:48:13
You all said the same in summer. And we’ve won 1 away game all season.
We need 2 midfielders in January that can actually run and play the system. It doesn’t matter about goals or assist we need the midfield to Dominate the game like prime Hendo Gini.
We’ve all watched this team for years and we know exactly what we’re lacking. The press has vanished, the wingbacks protection has vanished, and we now go long ball all the time. Why, coz the midfield is crocked.

27.) 04 Dec 2022
04 Dec 2022 15:13:44
Doesn't matter what "we all said in the summer" does it? The big German fella decided he didn't want/ need anyone else in until the 31st of August. Crying about it on here, whether you agreed or disagreed with Klopp, isn't going to influence anything come January.

28.) 04 Dec 2022
04 Dec 2022 18:14:36
“I am the one who said we don’t need a midfielder and I was wrong. That’s the situation”

- the big German Fella.

@LiverpoolFC8, when Klopp made the original comment about not needing midfielders it was said because he couldn’t get his targets to improve the midfield and because he had 9 or 19 first team squad midfielders who had, a couple of weeks before, been about 2 or 3 goals away from being the first English team to do the quadruple. At the time his comment was sensible.

When he later made the comment you quote the situation had change and half of his midfield options were out injured (or, in Fabs case, out of form) . At that point his admission that he needed a new midfielder to bolster the squad was also sensible.

Basically, what he did was change his mind because the circumstances had changed. I believe it’s what mature adults do - adapt to the circumstances that they are faced with. I’m fairly sure that at one time or another in our lives everybody on this forum will have changed their mind about something

Anyway, again, just saying.

Agreed @WDW. Same as I'd imagine, if this link is true, then Klopp has liked what he's seen of this lad and has okayed us going for/ bidding for him. Again this is tempered by the fact we don't know if this link is true or idle speculation.

I've just watched 120 minutes of him. Neat, tidy and good defensively. Seems a decent enough DM.
