In regards to Lavia, we bid £45M and got a no from Soton. Chelsea bid £48M and got a no from Soton. We could have put in a bid for the "minimum" asking price of £50M but chances are Chelsea would go higher (as they did) with £55M hence we now go for £60M.
No drama and certainly nothing embarrassing about 2 teams competing for a player.
Macalister and Soho had release clauses which is why they were relatively straightforward, MC and Lavia will be sold to the highest bidder in the same way many other players will and have been this window i. e Declan Rice, Gvardiol, Mount etc.

Unless that player has a preference to sign for one club over another. They can bid all they want, but if the player does not want to move, then he doesn't have to. I thought that was obvious after the Caicedo deal.

Lavia has every reason to feel aggrieved at us. Viktor, at what point did the club say he is the perfect MF for them, I must have missed that press briefing. To say the club are returning with the tail between their legs as well is just nonsense. They are making a bid higher than that of Chelsea in the hope it allows them to sign the player.

Why are people saying Lavia has already. l chosen Chelsea? The only report I have read says that both clubs want him. Ed002 has said that Chelsea’s are confident he wants to come to them. Well yeah, otherwise they wouldn’t have bid. LFC are also confident otherwise they wouldn’t have bud so this is not surprising. Pretty sure one of the Ed’s said yesterday his preference is LFC, so I’m not sure where all the negativity is coming from?

Just playing devil's advocate but maybe Liverpool were fully aware of chelsea's ffp issues and so made the bid for mc knowing that would then take Chelsea to their maximum expenditure by making a better offer. Hence their delay in offering a better deal, and then pulling out of the tyler adams deal.
Which in turn would prevent Chelsea from being able to then exceed any offer we place for lavia.

If Lavia changes his mind and wants to go to Chelsea, it is entirely up to him. Not sour grapes, but if he goes to Chelsea, he might find it more difficult to get minutes compared to Liverpool. We need a DM more than Chelsea, so if he wants to play, the choice is obvious.

As far as I know, there's more than 2 DMs in the world. Just because they had successful seasons does not automatically mean that they will be an instant hit. Sometimes the weight of their price tag can put unnecessary pressure on them to perform, especially for Caicedo. We've seen that with Pogba, Hazard, Maguire and others where they can't justify their hefty price tag.

Apologies Ed, i have recently read that due to Chelsea not competing in any eufa competition ffp doesn't effect them. Only the Premier league rules. John henry shouldn't play big money games i. e buying a club if he isn't willing to play by the big money rules. Simple, he cannot scrimp and steal players hoping to get a good deal when clearly so many other clubs are happy to give the selling clubs asking price. as you say ed, Moving on.

Nobody really knows what Lavia wants and in any case people can change their minds.
From a basic view surely he’ll get more game time with LFC. Caicedo has arrived at Chelsea and they play with 5 at the back leaving less space for midfielders?
We haven’t got an out and out defensive midfielder and will be playing more games due to European competition.
Maybe he was in london to chat with both parties, Liverpool and Chelsea and hasn’t made his mind up yet.
All of the click bait on other sites is tedious and the negativity and sniping on here is equally tedious.

Stuie, we are returning with our tails between our legs as we’re essentially admitting that we had lowballed them by going so far over our initial offer, after having completely walked away from it to chase Caicedo, that couldn’t be a clearer case of it. The fact it’s likely to end in failure is another huge embarrassment and symptomatic of a club in disarray. Well run club eh? Doesn’t look like it.
