Absolutely abysmal 1st 30 mins being played off the park you'd swear Newcastle were the home team we are as soft as sh### bloody joke.

Eventually go 1 nil down and finally have some urgency about us up the tempo for 10 mins and go 2 :1 up. Why can't we just play like this all the bloody time ok we might lose the odd game but at least we'd see some decent football.

Are Liverpool playing away or what.

Arghhhhh Arne stop playing your best player as a makeshift right back. We need his energy in midfield. I hope I am proven wrong but Arne loves setting us up to fail.

Anyone just see gakpo put a bit of speed on? Or am I just imagining it.
31 Jan 2026 20:28:01
You'd think this was being played at SJP. And no Guimeres luckily for us.
31 Jan 2026 21:21:45
FW, I find it amazing that Gakpo STILL puts his head down, cuts inside, tries to find space and then attempts to shoot. It's comical at this point. It's sheer bloodymindedness at this point. Dreadful footballer for me.
31 Jan 2026 21:42:56
Happy to report that I am wrong. Well done Arne.

Anyone got any bar recommendations for pregame tomorrow? Ideally not near anfield - in town?

Taking a break from the Slot, Hughes, Edwards soap opera I'd like to give Amara Nallo a mention.
Fair play to the lad after his 2 previous disastrous appearances to get himself back to a point where he can come on in a Champions League game and do himself justice.
Those 2 red cards would've finished a lot of youngsters but he's obviously got his head down and worked hard to get another chance.
Well done young man ??.

In fairness to Nallo, one red was an overly harsh bit of reffing and the other he was put in a rubbish position by more experienced colleagues.

The footballer in me wonders why we were pressing so hard at 3-0. Makes eff-all sense to me.
Also can not fathom the logic of not buying a defender.
Unless there is "grand plan ", I just can't me head around it.
Happy to be enlightened.
Please inform.
Len.

They're trying to impress the incoming manager. Wow. that's cynical. Even for me.
29 Jan 2026 12:08:20
I think that they just felt free to play for the first time in a while. The game was easy and the players were relaxed and went back to doing the things that they used to do naturally without thinking.
As for the not buying a defender - I just don't think that any of the players that we want are available to buy at the moment. We would rather wait until the Summer to get the players that we actually want rather than compromising the long term plan by settling for what might be available in January.
29 Jan 2026 14:50:30
Guehi was available and he was definitely wanted by us seeing that he was literally undergoing a medical for us in the summer when the plug was pulled. I think we should just admit that Hughes and Edwards royally screwed up this transfer window.
29 Jan 2026 15:38:34
Guehi was available but was asking for insane wages and signing fee compared to what we had agreed with him in the summer. We can get 2 quality CBs in the summer for the same value as the package that City have given him. He no longer offered value for money so we didn't get involved.
29 Jan 2026 16:37:58
ShipleyKopite how do you know that? You're just making an assumption based on his City wages but perhaps City just thought let's make him an offer he cannot refuse.
I think as has been reported elsewhere on the site the owners have lots faith in Slot here the reluctance to buy players but regardless of manager we should have signed a cb. If we had a decent DOF in charge signings should suit current and any incumbent manager as we would have a clear philosophy and only recruit players and managers that suit it!
29 Jan 2026 19:16:24
No. You are making assumptions that I am making assumptions. I'm actually basing it on information that I have read from multiple sources.
29 Jan 2026 21:00:20
Anything we say about the Guehi transfer is an assumption because we weren't there and the details aren't in the public domain.
One thing that's not an assumption is that we wanted him in the summer but we didn't want him in January so something happened to change our minds.
My own assumption is that he was seen as a market opportunity and an upgrade on Gomez who was being courted by Roma if I remember correctly. It's my assumption that if Guehi had signed we would've let Gomez go but once Palace pulled the plug we kept Gomez.
Come January, the interest in Gomez was gone and Guehi was asking for more money than he was in the summer so we let City waste their money on him. He was never seen as a starting centre back, more a squad player who can cover the full back areas as well as centre back.
If he had been in the long term plan we would've just got him in January regardless of the cost. That's not a screw up, that's a conscious decision.
Just my assumption.
30 Jan 2026 14:00:34
I don't buy that Sean. Your non assumption is not the full picture for me. What I think is correct is that we wanted him in the previous summer but we didn't want him in January because we wanted him for free in the upcoming summer. We didn't suddenly not want him.
My theory is that we screwed up. Hughes and Edwards were arrogant to think that Guehi would honour an agreement we had with him to join for a free and didn't bother to engage him or CP to bring him in Jan in Jan despite our defensive crisis. They didn't expect Man City to swoop in and get him this month. What Man City offered him is immaterial since we could have gotten him on 1st Jan on the terms he had agreed to in the summer before Man City approached him with better terms.
I don't agree that we suddenly didn't want him after chasing him for the entirety of the summer.
30 Jan 2026 22:20:24
So you don't think Man City spoke to his representatives before 1st Jan? Bit naive that mate.
28 Jan 2026 23:54:22
Arne Slot's comments to the press have been passive aggressive, borderline self sabotaging recently! It's fairly obvious he is furious with someone probably plural!

It's a circus on and off the pitch and has now become an embarrassment to the club. The sooner Slot and at least his boss is gone the better. Integrity, resolve and a united front from the club needs to be the first order of business post Slot/ Hughes.
That's the Liverpool way and the only way. No more excuses. The team needs to do the talking.
28 Jan 2026 23:48:16
Great result tonight and the bonus of finishing in the top four is the next two knockout games will have a home leg as the second fixture.

And what happens if LFC gets knocked out in the first knockout game similar to drawing last year's winners of the UCL= PSG in the first knock out game. Don't count ye Chickens before they Hatch?
The reason the team has better results in the UCL league format is that the football is played at a far, far slower pace and intensity, versus weaker teams invariably like PSV who wrecked us 4-1 at Anfield.
The Azerbaijan league is ten times weaker than a farmers league! the UCL knockout rounds now intensify in pace and speed like the premier league, which means LFC will not face similar poor teams such as Qarabag and Galatasaray who beat us 1-0 their first home win in the UCL since the 2017-18 UCL season, another first for Arne and hopefully the "LAST" for him.
28 Jan 2026 23:29:57
Just joking, but can we keep Slot for Europe and get another one for the Premiership :)

I would vote for that G9. Other than maybe being a better side, we'd only have to hear excuses about low blocks and set pieces 10-12 times a season instead of 55-60.
28 Jan 2026 23:28:15
OK - tonight confirms suspicions.
Its me - its been me all season.
55 years of support - and tonight - tonight I chose not to watch. I chose to watch the paint dry instead. Tough choice.
But for the sake of all you fellow fans - I am now choosing to NOT watch any more matches (until next season). Arne - I've got you. :-)

Great result, always thought Macca was a great player! Joking aside just nice to see free flowing play and goals. Well done boys.
28 Jan 2026 22:45:17
Just another false dawn for me, we've been here before.
29 Jan 2026 00:15:57
I agree, some people are thinking that we are backā¦. no we played qarabag, they were dog?.
29 Jan 2026 10:33:01
There were still positives to be had from the match despite it being only Qarabag. And the biggest one for me is that we kept attacking instead of sitting back and letting them play after we took the lead.
If we had played with that mindset more often this season, I think we'd be much higher up the pitch. Hopefully we see the same in the league but I doubt that we would.
