Just when i write that defence has been good we put out a defensive masterclass.
Well no complaints it was yet another new midfield pairing. Comeback win and a famous night at anfield.

1st 30 odd minutes was truly dreadful and we v lucky to be level at ht. 2nd half thought we excellent and played some lovely stuff. Subs probably killed our momentum but he had to make changes. Rio outstanding whole game I thought. Mac done well and wirtz v good in the 2nd half when he came on.

That's why we wait 90 mins before writing eulogies. Yes we were awful for the first 30 mins, but after then we largely recovered and once Wirtz came on in the second half we were completely dominant. Gravy was very good at RB too.

VVD recovered from his nightmare start. Rio had a blinder. Wirtz is looking increasingly better. most importantly, we showed fighting spirit and desire, something we were lacking way too foten last season. All in all, a good night in the end.

Rio was excellent probably his best game for us, Trey grew into the game, Gakpo pretty good, and Macca obviously got a couple of goals and improved second half. Grav better at right back, as is Szob which tells you something about our system and their strengths as players,

Araujo struggled against their system, so good sub and tactical changes by Iraola. VVD and Tzimi struggled, as did Koumas. Mixed bag but good result again.

{Ed666's Note - He’s at the back end of his career at the top. If I was him I’d go to somewhere in Italy for a year or so and then put my feet up and play in The States in Miami or LA. What an absolute living legend tho..My only gripe is we messed Southampton around and didn’t get him sooner.

The women's game today finished
Aston Villa 2 Liverpool 1

Sad to say but this felt all too familiar for the ladies this season
started with all the possession, went a goal up with a fabulous strike by Natalia Ramos and looked to be in complete control.
The rest of the half saw plenty of opportunities but none that really threatened their goalkeeper.

Second half Villa started stronger, but for me they look a poor side, only striker Grant & the goalkeeper looked decent.

Liverpool started to press again but yet another foray forward meekly came to nothing, the Villa keeper in possession quickly punted the ball long which Grant latched onto and smashed it top corner to equal proceedings 1-1
Quite soon after a very poorly defended corner resulted in an own goal making it 2-1

Despite Liverpool dominating possession again for the remaining
minutes we never looked like equalising, final 3rd options were
Poor all game, our forward players need the ball delivered low, time after time it was played in high, also week snap shots when off balance and / or on their week foot instead of a simple pass to a teammate, time and again resulted to nothing.

3 games now (Man Utd, Man City & now Villa) where we were
looking in control for nearly all of the games, has returned a total
of zero points, lost the lot ?. seems unreal.

Women's football has improved a lot recently, attacking wise for the most part, but defensively it's still very weak so I'm at a lossto see why manager Gareth Taylor insists on coaching the team to play out from the back, so many mistakes are made week on week (maybe it's his Manchester City connection) it's disastrous.

Games are coming thick and fast now, the forward players especially
need to revert back to playing as a team, not constantly looking for the glory option.

Our ladies will be gutted but they are good enough to put it right,
"collectively" being the key word.

Manchester United next up on Wednesday @ 7 o'clock, we owe
them one for sure so fingers firmly crossed ? for a positive result.

Vivien Endermann must play on the right wing from the start .

It is great to see how far the womens game has come in the last ten years. I do think it will continue to get better as more money goes into it.

My one wish for the game would be to reduce the size of the goalposts. Womens keepers are about a whole foot shorter than the mens keepers so it does not make sense to me why the goalposts are the same size.

Probably like you I follow all our teams, it's just a pity that not all the youth and women's games are televised, I think All Red and LFC
websites could and should do more, a paid subscription site should at the very least be up to date and yet it's way behind even with basic information etc.

You're bang on the money regarding the size of the goals, it seems ridiculous that the powers that be haven't made adjustments ?

The upcoming cup match tomorrow vs united doesn't look like it's being shown on any format, such a pity, I hope the ladies can get the win, I think their general play this season could see them winning a trophy, just need things to gel a bit better. pretty much like the men's team, looking very good in parts yet still plenty to figure out,
