Joyce on Hendo to SA now, its getting real. Hendo wants to play at the euro's and needs to be playing regularly, which may influence his thinking. Good luck to him if he decides to go for a paid holiday.

I saw a YouTube video of the players return for training. He do looks in great shape. He’s staying and is fighting for his place
Last season and then I think he will go.

I really hope not. See the shape he came back in for training. I mean seriously. Dude is ready for the fight. We will need him.

I'd much sooner sell Fabinho and Thiago so we can buy another younger DM in.

Hope we keep Hendo.

This whole Hendo rumour seems to have come out of the blue. Seems strange when he's such an influence here to suddenly lose him?

4.) 12 Jul 2023

His PR team is in overdrive.

Hendo needs to put his LFC career ahead of the England one! He will be 2nd fiddle for England!
But if he’s hellbent on being with that England squad I’d sell him asap!
There comes a time when a player needs to hang up the country boots if they want to prolong their bread and butter career!
And we need all those of hendo’s attention!
If not sell him he’ll be gone next season for free!

Seems far more likely that if any PR team is involved then it's most likely to be related to the Saudi League.

However, I do have a slightly more positive outlook than some on this site.

12 Jul 2023 13:22:02
Political correctness he’s identified as his 27 yr old self.

8.) 12 Jul 2023
12 Jul 2023 13:35:51
I'd much rather sell Fab or Thiago due to Hendo's leadership, but also his homegrown status. I think we have filled our 17 allocations for foreign players, so we need to move some of them on to bring in new signings.

Me if we could sell Henderson and get half decent money I would let him go straight away.
Everybody keeps going on about his leadership qualities but they did not do much last season and they won’t do a lot sat on the bench because I can’t see him starting to many games. I would say out of him Thiago and Fabinho he was the worst by far. Thiago out of the three when fit and playing was by far the best last season.
For me Henderson has been a great captain and when I see him play for England still looks ok but that sums up International football and the premiership and champions league level is too much for him now so you can’t let your heart rule your head everybody see his performances last season and one thing I know it would never be from lack of effort on his part for me he was the best player the season we won the league and every year since his performances have been declining so I can’t see anything getting better only worse he is not James Milner he was a one off total fitness freak and I would have much rather he stayed around for another year doing the role he was doing than Henderson as I think if he is not playing week in week out his performances will only go down more.

I doubt playing in Saudi Arabia enhances his chances of making the England squad - he'd be better off playing 50% of LFC games for that.

Really hope he doesn't go, still think he has a lot to offer.

The rumour is that he'd get a something around £300,000 per week over there. I know he's one of the higher earners at Liverpool, but they don't pay income tax in SA, if I recall correctly.

11.) 12 Jul 2023
12 Jul 2023 14:34:50
Edd002 I'm guessing the tax system is a lot more forgiving in Saudi Arabia?

{Ed002's Note - They would need to pay Withholding Tax which will be around 20% after adjstment to deduct costs.}

12.) 12 Jul 2023
12 Jul 2023 14:53:27
1. Has Joyce said anything over and above Saudi Arabian clubs are interested? Just cos they're interested doesn't mean the player or LFC are.

2. Was Joyce the bloke who said we were too skint to sign a midfielder about 2 weeks before we signed Szoboszlai or was that James Pearce?

13.) 12 Jul 2023
12 Jul 2023 15:10:20
Parma, I completely agree.

Also, he has 2 years of his contract remaining. I'd be far happier with him leaving next summer (where we still get a fee) when our new midfield have bedded in a bit more. As an added bonus for him, 50%+ of games in 23/ 24 should get him a place on the plane for Euro 24.

I agree that playing in Saudi, where the standard of the league will still take some time to improve, will mean he's less likely to get that seat on the plane.

12 Jul 2023 16:04:04
Playing regularly doesn’t appear to affect Southgate’s selection tbf - see Harry Maguire and Kalvin Phillips as examples….

15.) 12 Jul 2023
12 Jul 2023 16:14:04
I love Hendo to bits but let’s be honest, even if he plays to his max potential every game this season and is our first name on the team sheet, he likely still won’t start for England ahead of Bellingham and Rice so I don’t think England is in his thinking at all. If he wants to stay it’ll be to try and rectify last seasons wrongs and nothing else. For me if he wants one last mega pay day in the sun I think he’s earned it.

16.) 12 Jul 2023
12 Jul 2023 19:34:55
Why does Hendo have to play regularly (not a pop at Hendo), slabhead doesn’t play but gets picked in England 11.

Same for form too.

Just an observation re England.

17.) 12 Jul 2023
12 Jul 2023 20:08:59
I just don’t see Henderson wanting to move to Saudi, he’d be the last person I could see going over there.

18.) 12 Jul 2023
12 Jul 2023 18:43:41
Hi Ed002 - thanks for the info above. Why would they be subject to withholding tax? Wouldn’t they be subject to income tax as an employee in Saudi - which is 0% tax? Or is it more complicated for paying for image rights etc.

{Ed002's Note - I don't understand why you want to discuss tax in other countries - I am not going to try and explain how footballers are domiciled.}

19.) 12 Jul 2023
12 Jul 2023 20:04:50
Southgate has generally been quite loyal, I'd be staggered if Hendo doesn't make the England squad just because he's not starting every single game for us.

20.) 12 Jul 2023
12 Jul 2023 20:39:38
Is Bajcetic home grown? As in, has he been in the academy etc long enough to make him HG?

21.) 12 Jul 2023
12 Jul 2023 20:42:48
Maybe Hendo likes Saudi Arabia? Ever thought of that? Or is it a rule that ALL English footballers must like England and only England?

Imagine wanting to go to a different country? Maybe he is the Costa Del Sol chicken and chips type of guy, or maybe he is actually open to stuff that isn’t English? Just a thought….

22.) 12 Jul 2023
12 Jul 2023 20:49:43
Hi Monty. In short yes he will be classed as home grown when he reaches 21 years old. If memory serves, a players needs to have spent 3 years prior to turning 21, on the books training as a player in a club of that country. Bajectic joined us when he was 15 I think, is currently 18 so will have been with us for 6 years by the time he turns 21, double the required time to be classed as HG.

23.) 12 Jul 2023
12 Jul 2023 20:53:38
Should clarify that it’s only after a player turns 21 they are would be registered as one of the 8 HG player slots in the allotted 25 man squad. Under 21’s don’t need to be registered so whilst they might technically meet the criteria, there’s literally no point in doing as it just wastes a registered squad place.

24.) 12 Jul 2023
12 Jul 2023 21:14:48
Just on the Under 21s thing - for Europe, the U21 player needs to have been here for 2 years in order to not require registry on the list of 25 players. That restriction doesn't exist for the PL.

So if we sign Lavia, for example, we will have to register him for Europe. Although he'd still count as Home Grown.

25.) 12 Jul 2023
12 Jul 2023 23:00:26
Baj will also count as club trained too, same as Trent, Jones and Kelleher (currently) .

26.) 12 Jul 2023
12 Jul 2023 23:07:08
Cheers Westwood. Can’t wait to see Bakcetic again this season. I reckon he’ll maybe only make the odd appearance but it would be interesting to follow his development. Was a breath of fresh air last season when all of our senior players ran out of steam. Of course, was a bit raw in certain instants but looked classy for his age.

He was useless last year, sell
& move on.

“Sell and move on” - that should be on the plaque in the tunnel onto the pitch.
