Like the new formation. Without the high line there wasn't 21 players all squeezed into one half. Game lots more space for the front four to make runs. Well played tonight lads.

Same ere stoneage salah looked better being able to pick up ball deeper and drive . If nunez can just calm down a bit i think he has the ability to make clever runs and finish . Our midfield in particular Henderson was brilliant. The acid test is our next 2 games but I like this formation an feel its more beneficial to the team .

Didn’t watch much of the game tonight, am i right in thinking we played 442? I saw Trent mention it. Very interesting given Klopp has almost never changed formation, hoping it will be a permanent change going forward if it’s working.

I did t see a y of the game as I'm down in Oxford on a work related course but all my neighbours from north of the border where I hail. From are followers of rangers and the banter has been good still another plus for me is that I won a bottle of whiskey from them as I was so confident I even gave him the benefit of the draw now onto next week let's please have some more of the same lads.

I would tend to agree with irish rover, can't see him going with 4 starting attackers against arsenal r city. Good to see him change it a bit, gives opposition something different to think of. I'd like to see him go with same set up against a better team as we looked much better defensively. In saying that rangers are poor hard to judge until we played a better team.

Was a better performance, but has to be tempered by the fact of who the opponents were, with respect to Rangers, they’re not top class. I’d like to see that formation against Arsenal as it didn’t seem that we were over run in midfield and we appeared to have numbers when out of possession. At least the opportunity to experiment was taken.

I know it was Rangers but i have to say i thought Henderson was first class. Elliot just needs to calm down a little when he comes on as he seemed to be a headless chicken, but overall a good performance that will boost confidence YNWA.

Tell you what I was shocked at. I’ve been every home game in Europe for as long as I can remember. And rangers were the quietest fans by far. Couldn’t believe it. Probably because of the defensive performance or the early Trent goal but still was a suprise.

For me, it was easy to play that formation vs Rangers who frankly, are not a good team. That said, the adjustments are there for all to see. Us playing a front 4 so to speak, negated the low block Rangers came with. Also with 4 strikers up top, you don't need fullbacks bombing on or staying high on up the pitch either.

Doing this, Trent and Kostas could pick their spots and with Trent esp, this helped him stay solid defensively and do his damage from a deeper role with his passing range his is OFF the charts. And that peach of a free kick? Yeah, thought so. All in all, a good game. We are NOWHERE near being out of the woods yet cos Arsenal and City will be favs. and that is where the real tests will come, IMO.

I think there is a misconception surrounding only having two centre midfielders in last night’s system and that we will get overrun, it’s too attacking etc. One of the forwards is more of a 10, who when dropping into the spaces will tend to occupy one of the midfielders of the opposition. To be slightly more pragmatic, you would opt for a firmino/ Elliott/ carvalho in that position as they would naturally start slightly deeper. We played this formation under Rafa and although that was much more conservative for the most part, we had a lot of success as well players were given more licence from an attacking point of view. Also, I think arsenal are playing 4-2-3-1 at the moment, so maybe the plan is to match up?

As long as we don’t revert back to 433, highest line possible and fb’s bombing on at will. If we do that Arsenal and City rip us a new one. I would defend deep and let Arsenal have most of the ball, then we have exactly the right players to counter.

It was nice to see something different last night. Noticeable how Hendo was actually able to shuffle across and cover Trent in this double pivot role, and Trent was not going to far infield or forward. Tsimikas was linked much better with Diaz and Salah was doing much better with his tracking back and helping Trent out. Darwin is a menace and I like it.

Also, our forwards were much closer to one another. What a difference that makes, even if they were stepping on each others toes at times.

Still a lot of work to develop an understanding between the front players. They still play like strangers with one another, especially when breaking at speed and looking for the final ball/ pass. No excuses for that not to improve over time.

No doubt we'll have to revert back to 433 vs Arsenal as much as the 4-2-4/ 4-2-3-1 would be intriguing. Gooners are in too good form to go into a basketball game with.

Either way, a small positive step.

LiverpoolFC8, I agree with you about atmosphere from Rangers fans. I was stood towards the back of the Kop, so probably couldn't hear, but definitely heard louder support from Italian, Greek, German fans etc. The loudest I heard was when they sang Rule Britannia, before the game, and God Save The King towards the end of the game.
I just think the one sided nature of the game led to the atmosphere in general being average at best.

Crazy Rome. I Heard them Before the game, and around 86th minute. But that was it.
I’m front of the Kop, next to the Kenny stand. 100% the quietest away I’ve heard in years (European night)
