Hi Ed2 have Liverpool changed their plans relating to signing another midfielder? I think Gravenberch would be a great addition but concerned that we haven't bid and getting close to the end of the transfer window now.

{Ed002's Note - No, Liverpool are still interested.}

Ed02, are we still looking at CB's or has that been put to the back-burner for now? Cheers, man.

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any changes in the plans - and I still cannot see that the club would add another CB without a departure - and Klopp has said clearly no more departures.}

I support and love this club, and try not to doom and gloom all the time.

But if we should be honest, last 3 summer transfer windows are big big flops from the recruitment, ownership, and Klopp’s part. I don't want to put the blame on one department but on whole organization.

Our obsession with the right player brought us down from the top. I have always confidence in this team and Klopp, but I can't see us challenging for the title in the immediate future. You can not do this without quality depth, which I think we don't have in many areas. Would love to be proven wrong of course.

Complete disaster class from us in transfers, bar Macca and Szobo clauses.

Spot on We The Reds
Poor transfer windows. We nearly won a historic quadruple and probably would have done with the right players in this windows. Crazy behaviour.

The old quadruple. We certainly should of won atleast 1 more league and champs league titles if we had been backed much better. We stagnate when we win league and champs league and City throw money around and get the players they wanted. that is why they are successful each year. They just won the treble and I'll back them to do it again this year. Maybe ev3n the quadruple. Let's be honest if any1 can do it it's them.

Drogie maybe he had a part to play being too loyal mate but it wasn't just him was it. Fsg are already getting the excuses ready for this window. well we tried for caicedo and lavia. Load of bull.
For mac and szob, we could of had the 1st 2 of interest, kone and thuram done and dusted straight away too I feel. Inacio still available too? Fofana? . Players were and are still there.

Did anyone on here support Liverpool pre-2011? Before Klopp, before FSG? If so, do you remember what the Hicks and Gillet era was like? Roy Hodgson, Konchesky, Joe Cole, Poulsen, Shelves. Just take a minute and think how far FSG has brought the club.

The way the cub has handled the midfield since the title winning season is appalling.
It has declined every season.
Then to lose three and sell two midfielders in one summer is ludicrous. Especially given the money in wasn't earth shattering.
Signing three players to replace five is not as bad as it reads.
Ox and Naby never played last year. The young lads who played their minutes are stil there.
Szobo is an ungrade on Hendo
Mac is an upgrade on Millie
Endo, could be anything really. Hard to see him being better than peak lighthouse. Hard to imagine him being worse than last year's alehouse.
Sign one more and we're up for me.

What I can't abide this summer is that getting here for this midfield rebuild has been highly visible for years. It was left to crash and burn out then, not rebuilt, stripped out and replaced.
So why are we doing the same at CB?
Surely a Saudi side would bung us a few quid for Matip.
Surely JoeGo has to play if he is ever going to get his career back.
Surely if Man City can have three left footed Centre Backs we can find one?
Surely if Trent is playing hybrid we fast fit cover for Konate?
Also, don't we also need just a normal right back? Competition for Trent or so TAA can start in midfield even?

In a year or three our HG will be stacked. But does anyone want to go into the new season with just 21/ 22 players in the squad? Yes we good U21s but so does every other side with 25 man squads.

I am not an FSG hater.
I started supporting the Reds in 1985. My first real team was 87/ 88.
I have never felt like it was the nd if a era. In the PL era the media definition of a big club has always - to me - mirrored how crap Liverpool were at the time.
But the side we had for three or four years. That couple of months where we were Champions of England, Europe and the World all at once. I love FSG for that (even though I understand the argument that we got there in spite of them as much as because of them) . The truth is we got there with them.

I don't like the penny pinching here followed by the British record bid there.
I would rather have the £16m Japan captain whose dreams have come true than any player who will only entertain a decade long contract, or a player who doesn't want to be our second choice - who instead is our first choice's actual second choice.
I don't want to be state funded, self sponsoring, loophole bothering, or pimping ourselves to the highest bidder.
But I would love us to have a defined budget and a clear strategy to deliver the size and quality squad we want and need to h competitive.

In summary I just want us to be the best version of us. But I would take this version over most of "them".

There’s another word used incorrectly - ’shambles’. Of course, it’s being used used for dramatic effect but in the context of where the club actually stands it’s total nonsense.

13.) 25 Aug 2023
24 Aug 2023 22:13:30
It also seems our "first choise players" choose other teams like Tchouameni, Bellingham, Gvardiol, Caiscedo etc. We can't just wait and let other teams run away. We are soon passed by teams like Brighton, Villa, Newcastle and even United.

14.) 25 Aug 2023
24 Aug 2023 22:22:58
Klopp was too stubborn to off load players magico, putting them on massive contracts. The finger pointing needs to be directed at Edwards, ward and some degree Klopp. He had the opportunity to sell him back to the Bundesliga. Klopp decided against a midfielder last window mate, as the Ed’s have stated, the money was there. The state of the squad is mainly down or mismanaging here in the uk.

So two quick points.

1) it’s funny how the supporters who tend to say “we” in regards to the club and team performances are the ones who seemingly support the least. Take that as you will

2) everything is speculation. We are on a discussion forum so every bit of speculation has its place and I do my best to not berate someone for a different perception that leads to a specific speculation. But. I’ll speculate that it is Klopp who is the culprit in many of these transfer “shambles”. Him holding out for the “right” player. Him holding on to other players who the fan base want to see rid. Ed’s have repeatedly told us the money was there last summer but Klopp didn’t want anybody. We have had enough examples of his tapping up ruining relationships or transfers. I love the man to death and I’ll back him until his last day in the job, so this window will again be his decision to not make room for further additions. And if that is what he wants then I’ll support that personally.
Ideally we saw Phillips get his career back and Matip moved on to make space for an upgrade.

This thread sort of sums it up early. 99.99% of us - myself most definitely included - don’t have the first clue about how to manage the day to day operations, or the strategic planning of a multi billion £ business. That’s ok, if we could we would probably doing it, rather than offering opinions about how it should actually be done. There are opinions in this thread, as an example, that suggest the owners of the business are, in some way, content to let the business stagnate and depreciate in value because they can’t, in some way, be bothered to arrest the decline of the club. Like I say, I know I’m not in anyway whatsoever qualified to offer advice, but I sincerely and honestly wish that the people in the same boat, the same fleet of boats as me would stop offering advice. Obviously people won’t, they are, after all, fully qualified Premier League managers, and several will have won the quadruple three or four times a week on their laptops, but it really is tedious. Might follow Zed on the two week vacation option.

If people really want to see what a transfer window shambles looks like then simply look across the park to our dear blue brethren before breaking out the Kleenex and clean underwear.

I think 3 midfielders in and 5 out is right we had far too many players with a lot of them hardly playing. My only concern is Endo this is a massive jump for him playing for a club that expects to win every game dominates possession and he is going to be left issues a lot there. So I hope he has the speed to cover the gaps that are left. I all so hope he has the ability on the ball to pick out passes. Last week was an awful time for him to make his debut so we will see this weekend is a very tough game Newcastle have done a very good job and are building a very good team and they have a very good midfield 3.

Please everyone, stop talking about football operations, tactics and recruitment. There’s nothing worse than armchair experts and pub bores.

Let’s talk about Mo Salah’s new fashion sense, Alisson’s black gloves and the Boss’s magnificent tan.

On Mo Salah’s fashion sense does anyone else think he should get his hair cut?

He was offside against Chelsea because his hair stands out about 7 inches! In a game where VAR gives the minutest of offside decisions the barber should be his best friend.

I had little to no problem with previous windows to be honest. The forward line was the first thing that needed tackling and we did that with Nunez, Gakpo, Diaz. Obviously Salah needs replacing when he is moved on in what should be next year.

We brought in some talented young players that may yet be stalwarts for the club. I'm not writing off Ramsay or Carvalho just yet. And decent funds provided along the way. Certainly acceptable levels by those who run that side of things.

Let's also be fair Hindsight is a wonderful thing. I certainly thought we needed a midfield addition last summer but not to the point it was absolutely vital. You can say you fully expected Fabinhos drop off but it certainly was not clear and obvious. I thought there was another season there where we would be fine in midfield and we would address it this season.

This transfer season has been absolutely farsical right from the very top and absolutely everybody in between running the transfer window. To sell Fabinho in particular and not have a key DM lined up to replace. Not to have Lavia in place. Not to have upgraded our CB options. Very very obvious issues after a poor season. It utterly baffles me that we did not prepare properly for this. Baffles and saddens. Once the season starts I ll be ome more cheery and get behind the team again but it's just hard right now watching this incompetence and lack of ambition unfold in front of my eyes.

22.) 25 Aug 2023
25 Aug 2023 11:25:41
Davey, we had more than 6 months from the point that Julian Ward notified us of his wish to leave until the end of the season and we ended up asking a retired mid-tier guy to come and help for the summer instead of finding a successor.

This is where we are at as a club right now.

What happens between 1st September and January behind the scenes at the club will be as important as what happens on the pitch.

23.) 25 Aug 2023
25 Aug 2023 13:05:40
Flash not even that. Can you imagine the absolute mayhem that would have happened had we signed Darwin for all that money, only for him to essentially fail his medical like Hojlund did with Utd and had to wait over a month to make his debut? I'll let you think about that for a second.

First game 1981. Supporter before that.

I think the issue with the majority of supporters is:

Hicks and Gillet was 12 years ago, they mismanaged the club but the club would have always been bigger than them and someone else would have realised the potential and fixed it. FSG are good custodians of the club. They have done everything they said they would do, win, renovate Anfield and training, commercialise the huge global appeal LFC. We consistently rank very high on many rankings on revenue, popularity and total worth.
The disconnect despite all of the above is we always seem unable to invest to the same levels of our closest rivals. We should have won a few more trophies but Man city are always ahead of us, we should have avoided defensive crisis a couple of years ago, slow to refresh a winning team is costing us more in the long run both on the field and in the bank due to obscene player inflation. FSG have an asset that is worth 10 ten times their initial investment, all we want is for them to spend some of their unrealised profit for the good of the club. They will get it back via future growth in the value of LFC as we compete for more trophies. It is nothing to do with “their better than past owners”.
