A frustrating game yesterday - one we really should've won. A couple of things I couldn't understand with our line up.

The first is - did we really need a designated DM in Endo for a game where our opponents were clearly going to sit back, have absolutely no confidence and we're there for the taking? I've been a big fan of Jones all the way through and thought a more forward thinking player should've perhaps played there.

For me, Elliot deserved a start. He's been fantastic recently and I thought should've been given the slot over Grav who's struggling with form at the minute.

Lastly, I just worry about Nunez. I love his mentality, his work rate etc but I just don't know if he can be developed. His first touch and decision making are awful but he brings so much energy. I really don't know which way his career will go with us after a season and a half so far. I would like to see Gakpo up front with Salah coming in more centrally (like the old days) .

Just my 10 pence worth!

TBB, Im not worried about Nunez cos if he were the only forward not doing well then, that would make sense. People going after him need to open their eyes and actually watch the games. Seriously, what was diff. in terms of perf. from last night and the last games vs Sheff. Utd and Palace?

For me, I am worried about the whole front line and our fluidity in general. Name one forward who has been playing well and scoring in the PL since the lat int'l break. Spoiler alert: You won't find any. We have scored 9 goals since the Int'l break and Salah has score just one of those. That's not a Darwin issue, Im sorry. That's a clear tactical issue where our fluidity and creativity is off and our finishing is also suffering. We need to do better and play better creatively cos we are inconsistent in our decision-making in the final third and in front of goal.

It seems like Nunez is bullet proof among some fans.

Jota gets ‘he stinks up the place and shouldn’t start games’

And Nunez gets it’s not his fault he’s offside it’s the team and it’s the tactics fault he’s not scoring.

If Nunez ever goes to court I expect some posters to be there as character witnesses. He could go in facing the death penalty and Walk out with a knighthood some of the statements he’d get.

3.) 18 Dec 2023 11:31:53
Unfortunately it’s not just the front players who are off form it’s the attacking midfield players as well. Good job we have VVD and Allison or we would be in trouble.

4.) 18 Dec 2023 11:34:46
Not sure what Darwin did wrong yesterday. It was a poor team display, with only Alisson, Virgil and Tsimikas coming out of it with any credit.

We are caught inbetween styles.

I am sure Pep Lijnders will have lots to say as usual in his press conference tomorrow.

5.) 18 Dec 2023 11:45:53
Fly I agree mate and at no point am I saying our poor performances and results have been down to Nunez.

We have lots and lots of problems throughout the team be it the style, intensity, players individual performances etc.

But Darwin is very much a part of that and it feels some believe he’s not.

6.) 18 Dec 2023 11:53:58
JK23 if you are looking for me to scapegoat Darwin for something the others are guilty of then, I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you.

7.) 18 Dec 2023 12:06:23
Darwin, Diaz and Szobo are racehorses. We need to decide on how we want to use them.

{Ed025's Note - they played like the ones i usually back yesterday FPF.. :)

8.) 18 Dec 2023 12:44:48
What was Nunez bought for, to score goals or run around passionately and cause 'chaos'? How long does he get in the team? Its all well and good saying 'he just needs to click and he'll score loads' etc, but at what point does he really need to start delivering. You don't spend that much money in the hope someone clicks.

9.) 18 Dec 2023 12:55:25
Oli read my 2nd comment. Nunez is far from the scapegoat but he is also part of the problem. But so are the 3 other fit forwards.

10.) 18 Dec 2023 12:57:53
Terrific post that @StuieBoy. Nunez is still raw in his 70's on this site lol.

11.) 18 Dec 2023 13:26:33
Seriously Harry? You spent weeks telling us how he was the greatest player on the planet when he was playing in Portugal. Now you’re bagging him in every post. Careful you don't get a reputation for being fickle (cough) .

12.) 18 Dec 2023 13:40:39
@JK23, sorry. I missed that.

@stuie_boy, you can apply that to all the other forwards. Also, Klopp never told you nor me that Darwin was brought here to ONLY score goals. Klopp actually said last season he needs to improve his all round game first before anything else which clearly, he has. The clinical stuff is the next thing to work on. Remember, you expectations of a player are not Klopp's expectation despite your attempts at projection.

@Darwins Evolution, you must just be meeting Harry for the first time. Don't worry, you'll get used to his mode of operation where in the same post he says Darwin is great BUT can't hit a barn door. Yeah, all in the same post. Nothing about being fickle with him. It's more about contradictions.

13.) 18 Dec 2023 17:10:19
I get that Oli and certainly a fair point, Mo hasn't been his outstanding best lately either, but he has shown what he can do over the last few years and i guess has some credit in the bank. My point is, people keep saying the same thing about Nunez - 'he needs time' but how long realistically do we give him.

Having not spoken to Klopp, I can only hazard a guess as to why he was bought, but I am assuming, from my limited knowledge, that it was to put the round thing in the big net as that is what he did at his previous club. He cost the club a lot of money, I would have thought there was an expectation for him to almost hit the ground running for that fee. As much as I want him to succeed, the more I watch him, the more I think he won't.

14.) 18 Dec 2023 17:16:13
Agreed Elliot should be starting he has the craft and technical ability in tight spaces great at one two’s and his passing is crisp fast and usually hits its intended target. Gakpo has lots to prove like Nunez and Gravyback these 3 and maybe Endo have not shown enough for me yet. Definitely the first 3 need to work on their game and still need moulding into the player they want to be. Potential is there just wether or not it can be reached. Arsenal I predict are going to get a hiding as the players themselves will be furious at how lack lustre they where yesterday. I think we will be top Xmas day.

With the transfer window closed, it looks looks like we know what Klopp's preferred team will probably be. Personally, I would've moved Trent into midfield and signed a RB (a traditional type) but what do I know.

My question is with this tactical change, what is the long term plan for Robertson? It's clear we're not moving back to what made him such a good player and he just doesn't suit this new shape and it clearly doesn't play to his strengths.

Also, having signed 4 midfielders, do you think this is the end for Curtis Jones? All these midfielders would suggest he's not rated that highly and I just don't see where he'll play.

What do you think will happen to these two?

One thing you can guarantee about Robbo is that he will work as hard as he can to adapt to the new shape. I’d back him to get it right myself but others won’t agree.

As for Curtis and we can add Harvey Elliott this too, they have competition for their spot in the team. Both can be good enough but both need to work hard to be more consistent.

The cream will rise to the top and the others will be squad and cup players. No shame in that every team needs a good squad.

2.) 02 Sep 2023 18:03:25
Hopefully Klopp will go back to a back 4. Especially know we have legs for days in the midfield.

3.) 02 Sep 2023 19:24:11
Europa league group looks great for giving Elliott, Jones, doak, quansah minutes and experience. Add the league Cup to that and they should get plenty of games to prove themselves and stake a claim.

4.) 02 Sep 2023 21:04:11
Like that'legs for days in the midfield' statement. Feels good to have confidence in the middle. In addition to speed and resourcefulness.

5.) 02 Sep 2023 21:51:12
Everyone was saying we lost four midfielders so we signed four. doesn't effect Jones at all, still competing against the same number as last year. When fit he'll get games.

I hate when players or managers moan about the tactics of the opposition. They are well within their rights to sit back if that’s what they want to do. It’s our job to try and break them down and we failed to do it.

We didn’t play well enough. End of story.

Controversial opinion but I would look at Bowen. Works his socks off and has a decent finish on him. Once you get over the fact there is no one capable of replacing him (left footed, RW goal scorer scoring 30+ a season) you’ve either got to change the fundamentals of our forward line or get a lesser player in a similar mould.

If we stick with the same way of playing, I’d get Bowen.
