Hello Ed02, if you are around, if you are betting man where do you see Gvardiol playing next season! To me, he is a top top class defender and no matter who the heck is in charge, LFC should simply sign him.

Casino Royale

{Ed002's Note - Josko Gvardiol (CB) Opted to join RBL to replace Konate over Leeds. Leeds, again, and Newcastle have asked after him but that will go nowhere. RBL do not want to sell but he is reluctant to agree a new contract but that won't force a summer exit if he does not agree a contract extension before then. RBL want to include a significant termination clause in his contract. Chelsea have him at the top of the list of CBs the club are still considering and tried last Summer and in January to buy him, having a huge offer rejected - they are still talking to RBL but they don't want to lose two players to Chelsea this summer and have RBL given a huge figure that would facilitate any further talks and chance of a move. One benefit that Chelsea has is RBL interest in taking a Chelsea player in the summer. Juventus, Spurs and Marseille have also sent scouts to watch the player and Spurs have asked about availability but they can all be discounted. Real Madrid have also spoken to RBL about the player. Barcelona, who had him as an option, have shifted interest to a Free Agent. A self-confessed Liverpool supporter and they may be interested but have not declared any interest with his club and may well be scared away by the price. Very, very expensive.}

Top response mate. You are at your absolute best when it comes to transfers. I had a cheeky look at Nico Schlotterbeck (CB) and he looks fantastic! Have we sent scouts to watch him mate? I would take him in a heartbeat.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Spurs and Newcastle were all interested when he was at Freiburg.}

2.) 26 Feb 2023 15:16:16
Ed how come european clubs can insert clauses but English clubs don’t?

{Ed002's Note - Some do in England. In Spain and Portugal all players are required to have a release clause.}

3.) 26 Feb 2023 16:53:08
It sounds to me that Gvardiol is way out of FSG-owned Liverpool's price range. I really hope we don't waste our time chasing more unicorns.

I'd also argue that if we seriously want him, then he would be for the left CB position and that Virgil would become a bit of a luxury. Are we ready to cash in on Virg? I know one Ed that is :)

4.) 26 Feb 2023 18:47:20
Gvardiol makes no sense unless van dijk is leaving can’t see us putting van dijk right side. Maybe if one of Robertson or Tsimikas left Gvardiol could play LB and fill in CB.

5.) 26 Feb 2023 19:38:54
Onekiss I know not everyone will agree but I would swap vvd for Gavrdiol right now. Vvd has not got back to the level he was and is getting older. Gavrdoli is absolutely class and will only get better.

6.) 26 Feb 2023 20:17:57
I’m not even against it but i think van dijk will be fine with a good midfield. Gvardiol with this lot wouldn't look good either.

7.) 26 Feb 2023 21:02:22
Without taking too much time Ed, do you have examples of clubs/ players that have the clauses? Much appreciated.

{Ed002's Note - It doesn’t involve Liverpool at all.}

8.) 27 Feb 2023 07:53:29
I don’t know if we will sign Gvardiol but to suggest we can’t because he’s a left sided CB and that’s where VVD plays just shows how many people base their opinions on FIFA or Football Manager.

It’s not too much of a shift for a player to be coached to play as a right sided centre back when he’s already a centre back.

It’s like some think these players come out of the womb as a LCB or a DM and can never ever change that status. Human beings can learn and adapt you know.

9.) 27 Feb 2023 07:59:12
@FPF - is Gvardiol going to cost as much / much more than, particularly when you factor in inflation, the price we paid for VVD?

I know it’s not the popular narrative but within 6 months we paid world record fees for a CB and then a goalkeeper.

Yet again, I’ll smack my head against the wall and say we aim for the right player at the right price. To me that policy seems to work as well as, if not better than spending half a billion in two windows and not being able to score a goal. Who knows perhaps the next half billion batch in July might even include a goal scorer.

10.) 27 Feb 2023 09:38:57
BP - you’d be surprised to find out how particular the very best players might be about the positions they play. As for the coaching, the less said the better.

WDW - VVD and Alisson were possible because Barcelona took Phil for a once in a lifetime fee.

Ps I’m pretty sure every club works on a “right player, right price” basis.

Regardless of what other clubs are doing, the fact is we’ve badly mismanaged our recruitment in the last 4/ 5 windows. And now our only way out of it is external investment into the club and a player overhaul. It’s ok to say this. It’s not blasphemy.

11.) 27 Feb 2023 16:55:28
@FPF, it’s not like a computer game. We sold Coutinho, therefore we epreceived £140m therefore we can spend £140m. Life isn’t quite as linear as a Football Manager game. We’ve also shelled out £150 m on Diaz, Nunez and Gakpo in the last three windows - who did we sell to enable us to do that?

12.) 28 Feb 2023 09:19:17
@FPF, you are wrong about everybody buy the ‘right player at the right price’ Look at City with Grealish and their obsession with £ 50m full backs, United with their over spending on non-entities for years and as for Chelsea ???.

A lot of money + World class coach = Guaranteed Titles (Pep Guardiola)

A lot of money + A clueless rookie = 10th place finish (Graham Potter)

Zero Cash + World class coach = A trophy here and there (Jurgen Klopp)

A lot of money + Jurgen Klopp = Quadruple!

Arthur is playing for U21 and it looks like we signed someone for U21. 4-2-3-1 means your full backs need to behave more like defenders than wingers. Trent can’t defend without a help and that is why we play 4-3-3. We play 4-3-3 to accommodate Trent!

Carvalho wasn’t a kid for Fulham where he played a full season without a fear. If you send him back there today they won’t treat him as a kid and same goes to Elliot. When they play poor, they are kids and when they have a terrific games they miraculously becomes Xavi and Iniesta of the world.
I have said above Carvalho was a pointless signing. He simply doesn’t fit in and there was no need to sign a kid who’s neither a midfielder nor a winger.
I also recall posters saying how these two are replacing Keita and Ox this season and we didn’t need a midfielder.

Henderson was worse than Naby JK. Not a single post about him over here.

Only Klopp can answer that question! I don’t know the rationale behind the signing of Carvalho. He doesn’t fit in with 4-3-3. The same for Elliot and Jones. Yer we signed him!
