Second Lavia bid rejected I see.

I get the whole "negotiating" point but it's also now an absolute priority we have to resolve before the start of the season. You either want the kid or not.

Ed025 I know you don’t just bid what teams want but we was only about £10m short and we go back up by £2m seems very silly.
I would expect if we signed him he would be on about £60k a week after luckily cashing in on Fabinho and Henderson for £53m and saving £360k a week with them two leaving over 5 seasons £93.6m in that time so the club should be in a lot better place because of some of the payers we have got off the wage bill. Naby Ox Firminho all on massive wages and not played a great deal over the past 3 seasons.

Over 5 mill or so this is ridiculous from us imo. Either you want him or you don’t and if you do then the difference between 42 and 47 million is nominal. With the season so close to starting we need to get this sorted and start working on our other targets. Tbh I don’t understand why we aren’t already bidding on the CB or other CM we need alongside Lavia anyway.

Summer started off well but with Hendo and Fab leaving this is starting to look amateurish with season starting in 10 days bearing in mind the difficult fixtures we have.

I can't believe it took Jörg Schmadtke over a week to 'prepare' a 2nd bid that is exactly the same as the first one but with an extra £1 million on the fee.

He should get a job in the Public Sector with that level of efficiency.

B) offering £42m for a 19 year old with one season of experience in the PL is hardly lowballing - it's more than we supposedly paid for MacAlister.

I believe saints are looking at the alleged bid that Chelsea, made for lavia last summer, saints had only signed him weeks prior but Chelsea bid 50 Mill. I understand from saints pov, he's under a lengthy contract, probably not a top earner and know city have the 40 mill buy clause for next summer so they need an incentive to sell this summer, especially with city also getting 20% from any sale.
Saints may just think, keep our best players and hopefully they get us promoted back to the Premier where we will make more money than selling him for what Liverpool are offering at this present time.
Lfc seem to think saints will cave in but I honestly don't see why they would. Plus Chelsea can do as seems their transfer policy and throw crazy money over what a player is worth just to blow anybody else out of the competition. I think lfc will be looking at cheaper alternatives but the problem with that is that anybody cheaper will probably have no prem experience and possibly not speak English and that was one of the issues with Darwins integration last season.

It’s all nonsense and paper talk…. Just have to be patient and see what transpires. £50 million is pretty steep for a 19 year old with potential …. And he is not even a forward.

Maybe something unexpected might happen?

Not too many people really know who LFC are actually going in for.

Then the joker in the pack…. Saudi silly money bids. Would you take £100 million for Allison or £150 million for TAA.

What if they offered £175 million for Klopp?

Be happy once transfer window closes…. But Saudi’s have a longer transfer window anyway so it could get spicey for a while yet.

The reality of where they are in their careers is that Jones, Bajcetic and Elliott CAN replace Milner, Henderson and Fabinho. Its not where these players were three or four years ago its where they are now and in the future. The three youngsters can all be a part of our squads midfield for the next decade.

Or maybe the selling club have over valued their asset? Why are LFC in the wrong for offering what they think is a reasonable offer? I'm sure another club could come in and offer £50m up front in which case fair enough, but that doesn't seem to have happened.

Just because Southampton want £50m, it doesn't mean that is his value. Also, I'm not sure of the ins and outs and I'm sure Ed002 can comment, but selling Fabs and Hendo doesn't necessarily mean we got the cash up front to suddenly spend. I'm sure there are certain variables at play that we are not privvy to.

As for the Lavia schstick, could it be that the club think they can drive the price down since they clearly do not believe the kid is worth 50m esp. since he is 19 and unproven in th PL? There are literally fans out there who do not want us to sign Lavia for the same reasons I just metioned and the club seems to not belive the value is there at that price hence, the process of negotiations.

"Oh, just pay the money". Why did Utd not just pay the 86m Atalanta wanted for Hojlund, then if it was that simple? They negotiated and drove the price down cos clearly. It's caled a negotiation. If we don't get Lavia then, we will get someone else so let's allow the process to play out. Who knows? We could yet still sign him for the 50m. Wait and see. Just my opinion.

My point is that after courting a player and allowing players to leave you are backing yourself into a corner. If you want him then just stump it up. The figure spouted in the press is what Ed002 has confirmed to be true. Every man and their dog knows it.

We are now two weeks closer to the start of the season and appear to have not done not a lot other than cock about.

This defending of the club is laughable. We’re bargain hunters, the bottom line is pay the price or move on. We should have these lined up immediately following two high profile exits in recent days. Our season will likely be derailed and then we will revert back to this excuse.

Clearly, they don't cos they are taking their sweet time in negotiations and looking at other players cos they don't feel Lavia is worth 50m. They simply don't. Keep in mind, there are other fans who think we shouldn't even sign this kid let alone pay 50m for him .

Does that mean we won't sign Lavia? No. It just means we are in the negotiation process. That's all, IMO. If people want to panic then, fine. Panic away BUT that makes no diff. to Klopp and his bros. They're going to do what they're going to do whether we like it or not.

Frode, to be fair, I expect the transfers of both Fabs and Hendo were far from expected and the club likely planned starting the season with both players available.
So to say we should have had it all wrapped up is a little naive. The club are likely working through a list of available players and working to a budget to not only fill the positions they expected to, but to also now cover for the holes left unexpectedly by Fabs and Hendo.

We didn't allow players to leave contracts up and as for hendo and fab we had no choice we had to tell them to leave because of their wages from new clubs . I believe the clubs hands were tied and don't think that is the only two who will go to Arab teams just the begining.

Southampton have every right to set the value of the player, he is contracted to them! Does that mean we have to pay that NO…when Barcelona came calling for Coutinho was he worth what they paid NO but that’s what we wanted and that’s the fee that had to be paid for Liverpool to do business. I’m not saying that we shouldn’t negotiate or that we ought to pay what Southampton are asking if we don’t agree with the valuation but if we are that set on OUR valuation of Lavia then move on. By all accounts we have bid in the region of £41m and Southampton want closer to £50m so you would expect a compromise to be made with add ons etc. if this doesn’t happen I wouldn’t be impressed, not just because of the time wasted but more so failing to get the player who Klopp clearly wants for the sake of 3+ million.

Dow-ney, the club can negotiate for Lavia while at the same time look at other targets which I’m sure is what they have been doing from jump otherwise, they would be derilict in their duties. Both are are actually happening right now, as we speak cos we are looking at Andre from Fluminense and heaven knows who else. Let the process play out, me thinks.
