Just a note on the World Cup commentators, they really are woeful.

Jenas, Dixon and Keown leave a lot to be desired and that’s just scratching the surface! Surely this isn’t the best we’ve got? And do co commentators need to be ex players? They have one of the best jobs, watching football and getting paid, yet act like it’s the most depressing thing to do.

Add to that half the time they spout nonsense. Dixon has just bigged up Messi before a free kick, he missed it, badly, and then said he doesn’t look up for it ?.

Irish, Gakpo is at PSV mate. I think they went out to Rangers in the CL qualifiers. He was heavily linked to Utd in the summer.

Souness does not pander, if anything he gives his honest opinion even if it polarises, which it often does. Keane is similar but often more blunt in his assessment. Additionally, Souness has a long term contract with Sky.

most commentators these days are crap.
the English has no insight into the game, and the American ones just turns me off. perhaps its the accent, the lack of insight or both, it just bores me to death.

I have to admit, Peter Drury is my pick for now. Now that he offers great insights, but at least he is in tune with the emotion of the match, the moment and keeps it meaningful at least. Just check out these clips to see how different he commentates from martin tyler on the same moments:

A lot of them are bad, but John Hartson takes the biscuit. He went on for about a minute at a linesman who never put his flag up until the move ended. It was a close decision and the linesmen have been told to do that. Even the commentator with him seemed embarrassed that he didn’t know that and just kept a stony silence.

Think Clive Tyldsley should never have been relegated by ITV. One of the best currently, alongside Peter Drury.
Just wish there were commentators of the quality of Barry Davies and Brian Moore about today.
Those two were standouts for me.
