Has anyone read Klopps comments mentioning Ings in the same bracket as Benteke and Mario? I haven't seen the interview so it could be that Klopps words are being twisted but wondered what everyone's take was on this? Is Ings surplus?

Klopp seems to see Firmino as his first choice striker. With Origi and Sturridge already behind him, Ings may struggle for gametine this year unless he can adapt his game and be more versatile, or if Klopp suddenly decides to play 2 strikers.

Our squad is massive and it needs to be cut down. Not even teams in Europe have 4 senior strikers. City only have Aguero and Bony (Iheanacho youth, Nolito can cover) . United have Zlatan and Rooney (Rashford youth, Martial can cover) . Leicester who almost always play with 2 strikers only have 4; Vardy, Musa, Okazaki and Ulloa. We are over stocked. Having Ings (who I really like as a player btw) now only stands to block the likes of Kane, Gomes and Dunn from getting any chances our senior team. Klopp is a massive believer in giving the kids a chance and he knows his squad is too big. You don't need to have 4 players competing for one position. So I can well believe that Ings, Benteke and Balotelli are all available at the right price.

I think Klopp rightly sees his system only requiring 2 class strikers and they're origi and sturridge. Your 3rd striker, in a one striker system, should really be an understudy however, Origi has come on leaps and bounds under Klopp. I think the media are to an extent casting his words in a more sinister light, however I've inferred from something ed001 said - regarding a potential transfer - that he is not seen as indispensable to the club. I like the strike force in our main 3 of Sturridge, Origi and Ings for now and, bar a big offer for Ings, think it's the best we could hope for; we have 3 really able players to fill one position.

Ings will be our top scorer this season if he gets a chance.

Shame really i think ings has the potential to be a top striker.

Probably best to find a loan for him and see how he does after being out last season.

He is a great player Dezy. When he first signed I remember having to strongly defend him against the masses.

Klopp rarely ever uses 2 strikers though. When he does he tends to play Firmino as slightly deeper forward. Plus Mane can cover there. It's a shame, but Ings has probably missed his window of opportunity by being injured last year.

Hopefully he fights his way into the team next year because I had massively high hopes for him. With his work rate and goals he could've been a modern day Rush. It just hasn't happened thus far though sadly.

Higgins, during the pre-game interview Klopp was asked about Benteke's probable move to Crystal Palace and he said that we are too comfortable with six strikers, (Firmino, Origi, Sturridge, Ings, Benteke and Balotelli) but we are not going to gift any of them to another team without them first meeting the club's valuation in each case.

Klopp will certainly give Ings the opprotunity to showcase his talent, whether as a striker or not, as long as the player's performance in training is up to the prerequisite level for gametime.

Having said that Ings has the ability to score double figures for us this season, and I believe he will.

Klopp said something along the lines of, he is not like benteke and balotelli (the other two), he will be important to us this season. He can't be rushed back, he found the pre season games difficult.

A fit Ings should be ahead of Origi. He has more to offer in his all round game.

Totally agree with MK. Both posts.
Ings has the potential to be quality. He has and always will hunt down every ball he possibly can.
I for one hope he does stay and proves himself.

He came and said something about ings after that inital comment saying inga will be very important foe us this year. We know his quality but wr can't rush him back. He said a lot of pre season was still to much for him, not his knees but his muscles.

Origi is a beast. Miles ahead of Ings. Just my opinion

There is a piece on the official website with Klopp quoted as saying "we're counting on Ingsy" so I'm guessing he's in his plans.

MK, Ings and rush in same sentence. Behave yourself lad.

Right now, Ings is not in Origi's class. It is up to him to change that as I like him as a player.

IF Klopp sees Firmino as his first choice striker, then Ings is in trouble. Sturridge and Origi will definitely be ahead of him in the pecking order, which makes him 4th choice. Not exactly a position a striker about to enter his peak years wants to be in. A loan would be a good option and then bring him back into the team if Sturridge has another injury hit campaign.

Klopp clarified straight after that, that Ings had an important role to play.

That's the problem, you can't just bring some one back when you need them now with the new loan rules.

Ings is the type of player Klopp loves, would run after a chicken for hours if it gets him in the team. I can see Klopp changing his position slightly, educating him on other parts of the game. Might not be his best season this year but I can see Ings becoming a top player. Talent, hard work and mental strength, he has them all.

Cheers everyone my take was its just media twisting things for click bait but wanted to check others thoughts too. Sure there is competition for his place in the side. However he is not being moved on like Balotelli and Benteke. I think he has enough about him (Ings) to play more than just as a striker anyway although we do have a few AM in our squad.

Has Ings ever played left back?

I've never saw Ings as good enough. Was only brought in as cover by BR at a time when every player needed to be able to better our 1st team and am sorry Ings is a mile away from a 20 goal striker. I think using Firmino as our main striker is suicide as he's far from consistent enough and we will finish up like Arsenal, not scoring enough to win critical games and throwing away silly points. For me Origi has to be number one for me with Sturridge fitting in when fit and available. If your right MKS then I'll have to just trust Klopp on this one after all Aubamayang wasn't initially a striker!
