Ed2 I see some reports of Barcelona trying to sign Diaz this summer? Is that a possibility? Thanks.

Will Barcelona be able to afford the likes of Luiz Diaz?

I am not being Facetious Ed002, I genuinely do not know the state of there current financial situation.

{Ed002's Note - Barcelona's problems are wages so to add players they need to make room - and specifically need to make something like €250M of savings next season due to bonuses. Regardless what Deco says about keeping players, the likes of de Jong, Lewandowski, Christiansen, Raphina, Torres and Gundogan need to move on. Their issues are compounded by an FFP issue with EUFA in respoct of claiming future image rights now rather than for the applicable season. It is not a significant issue but UEFA want it to stop. They have some very good youngsters coming through like Lamine Yamal. They will look to offering players in part exchange. There may be interest in Diaz from the Middle East as well.}

I can see why a 27 year old player could be tempted by Barcelona. I have no idea why they might be tempted to go and semi-retire in the Middle East.

johnnyr1970 - if you know where he and his family have come from, the opportunity of securing multi-generational wealth for his family and descendents might well trump a glittering sporting career and medal haul.

Same can be said of those big names that went to China a few years ago in the middle of their careers.

Difficult to dispute that decision if that is how they feel.

Are we looking to sell Diaz? Might be interest from Barcelona but are we actively looking to move him on and if so are there any touted replacements of interest that you’ve heard on the grapevine?

{Ed002's Note - Replacing Salah would be far more important with Gagpo and Jota already at the club. Plenty of wide players who can play either side have been looked at.}

Has Liverpool shown interest in any of Barcelona's younger players in recent times. Gavi was mentioned some time ago but I was thinking more under the radar names.

Perhaps you could share insights on who you think Liverpool should be looking at, if indeed Barcelona want to do a deal for Diaz?

While I am here, are you aware of anyone Liverpool is tracking as a possible replace for Diaz. Nico William appears likely to move this summer with many admirers.

Appreciate we have a few options for the LW in the squad already.

From a football-business perspective, you say that de Jong, Lewandowski, Christiansen, Raphina, Torres and Gundogan need to move on to free up wages, but now they are signed to a contract on those wages how easy is it for Barce to sell them? The buying club would presumably have to match the (inflated? ) wage or else the player could decide that they would prefer to stay where they are.

The same applies to the 15 or so players that Chelsea are reportedly looking to offload this summer. If any of these are the players signed to 8 year contracts on high wages, unless a team can match those terms and conditions are Chelsea stuck with them?
