BBC now reporting Dominik Szoboszlai deal close. Player has requested Liverpool and Newcastle have pulled out of race. This boy is quality but I'd still like to see Thuram to complete a great window.

Would be an incredibly exciting signing for sure. With Mac Allaister and Szoboslai, I now think Lavia/ Musah would be a more suitable signing for the third midfielder. More so than Thuram as he is an out and put DM. Kone I ve decided is not quick enough.

Of course we still do have Bacjetic who will easily compete with anyone we buy for DM position. I always imagine if Bacjetic was someone else's player and we bought him, how excited I would be. Such a good young player.

Jones is starting to put it all together.

Bounce back seasons from some of our elder statesmen.

Midfield should be looking good.
Szoboslai also adds a winger option to the forward line.

If we do add a good DM and CB on top of this, there will be some serious excitement for next season.

I personally now want us to go for Lavia. We need Fab's backup or even someone who can take over from him. Baj is more suited to the 8 role than the 6. Lavia is really good and helps with the homegrown slot too.
Also I think Thuram and Szoboszlai are pretty much going to play the same position, so it's difficult to see how they both would fit in.

Question is if we could afford Thuram after paying £60M for Szoboszlai.

I've seen szo few times for both club+country and any time i've seen him he's impressed me. think he will be v good signing . also adds good bit of size to midfield and i presume good leader if he captaining his country so young.

Khephren isn’t an out and out DM.

Why couldn't we afford him?

We have Jones, MacAllister, Thiago, Hendo, Szoboszlai (assuming he signs), Fabinho and Bajcetic. That’s a strong midfield, before even considering Trent can play midfield too. Only slight potential issue is Fabinho and whether he has a good season.

Next I really would prefer we sign a RB to give Trent the flex to play midfield if needed, and maybe a CB.

Agreed ginger. There's a few typos in my last post. I meant that I would prefer a DM specialist as the third midfielder as opposed to Thuram who from what I've seen is more of an 8. I understand he has played DM but from the u21s it wouldn't look to me as a natural position for his skillset. Of course he is young and could adapt.

To summarize, if we get Szoboslai, I'd prefer a DM specialist but I do still like Thuram so I'm not going to be displeased if we buy him also. Just I'd prefer someone like Lavia. Or Musah who plays other positions but when he has played DM, I ve always been very impressed.

The kopparmy i agree, I'm hoping for lavia as the third midfielder asks although he will cost i would assume from the reported values somewhere around 40 million which is similar to his alleged clause for next summer with man city having first refusal. I think he is mobile, physically imposing and has the technical ability that is required plus premier league experience where he has done very well for Southampton albeit they were relegated. I'm hoping we purchase ven de ven as our final signing of the summer. He's left footed, fast, very tall and young and eventually I see him as vvd's replacement. I think right back is covered with Bradley should trent be required to play in the centre on occasion. Yes he's young and unproven in the prem but so was bacjetic, elliot. There is also morton to consider after his Stella season at rovers.

Davey, I can't see us prioritising a DM if we're keeping Fab as him and Bajcetic can rotate. Plus we have other midfielders, like Hendo and Thuram if we buy him, who could cover that position if required (both Fab and Baj unavailable for whatever reason) .

I could see us getting Thuram though, and I would be well chuffed with those 3, plus a CB.

For RB, we should give Bradley a chance based on his reported performances on loan last season.

A mate of mine is a ST holder at Bolton and he has raved about Bradley to me all season, would love us to give him a chance

Players player of the year, player of the year, young player of the year at Boltons end of season awards dinner, couldn’t have done too YT badly ????.

You could be right there Zed. And the Thuram links seem stronger than the others.

I guess as my own personal preference I'd move Fabinho on for a quicker DM.

It's a risk as prior to last season Fabinho has been a phenomenal player for us but it is a risk I think I would take.

I like Thuram a lot. It's just with Szoboslai if we get him, I think my focus personally would shift to DM targets. Maybe klopp sees Thurams long term future as a DM. Like I said it could work but I think it would take some adapting for him.

I'm calm about it. Hoping to get Szoboslai over the line first and then hopefully see what's next.
