Why is it proving such an arduous task to sell him, Ed?
If Phillips is sitting on 50-60k a week and doesn’t want to move, I’d fully understand. But otherwise, are we pricing him out of a move or what?
As a player, all I will say is that Nat Phillips never let us down, and despite his obvious limitations will be remembered fondly by Liverpool fans.

{Ed001's Note - we priced him out, but his wages are no doubt a hindrance too.}

Who has given Phillips a contract that’s worth 60k a week! That is crazy.

When is his contract end Ed? Next year right. Him leaving on a free is more likely than us selling him i would think. It feels like we have been trying to sell him forever and nothing happen.

He's a strange case. Bizarre decision from Edwards to offer him a long-term contract, equally bizarre decision from Nat to actually sign it.

Most common sense move for all parties would have been for him to leave on a free when his last contract ended.

Fahmee, if you think we've been trying to sell him for forever just remember Phil Jones, donny VDB and martial.

Thomas194 - There was nothing bizarre about signing it from Phillip’s perspective. If your employer offered you legally-binding, way-over-the-top wages for a minimum period of time, you’d sign it in a heartbeat. We offered him a daft extension, just like we did with Lovren, Mignolet, and tried to yet again with Milner this year. Ridiculous.

He might have been rewarded for helping us qualify for the CL.
Up the workers!

Do you see him moving this late in the window Ed? It feels like we have put a stop in his career instead of letting him go and try to make it at other clubs.

{Ed001's Note - I think he will go out on loan.}

I reckon there’s 3.3 million reasons why Phillips stays every year.

Thomas194, I hear you but if he is on the type of wages that is deemed to be a hindrance to him moving elsewhere then, there is nothing strange about him staying put and signing the deal he signed and for its duration.

Also, keep in mind that Phillips was on his way to the States to study at a university (I think, South Carolina) before he got his chance during that dreadful injury crisis in 20/ 21 so to go from there, to playing PL footie and signing a deal on very good wages is understandable. Another brilliant piece of know-how by Edwards, I might add.

Got to feel bad for Nat Phillips. The club have severely not helped him and he really could have had his career on the go now given he is a more than capable premier league player.

The club has shown that if a player really wants to leave, the club would not stand in their way. So if Phillips is still here, it implies to me that he is still okay playing a bit-part role with us.

Apparently off to Celtic until January.
