hi edds,

Can someone explain to me why we want ox. In my opinion he wouldn't get into any prem team and proved on sunday exactly why. He doesn't try when the going gets tough, can't pass the ball and dribbles into nowhere. we would be seventh choice centre mid and fifth choice winger so what exactly is the point? . He does not provide pace and is the exact opposite of a klopp player as is not a willing runner and defence capabilities are non existent.

thanks.

Klopp clearly likes him. That's what currently matters mate. I think the moves now being pushed because lemar looks unlikely. Same with Robertson. Not first choice but rubbish happens I wasn't happy with buying Robertson and won't be if we get ox but we'll just have to accept it.
What we desperately need right now though is a centre back.

Agree he wouldn't be first choice. But for Wenger, Conte and Klopp to want him in their squad their must be something about him!

Doesn't try? Rubbish. Last season when they lost 10-1 to Bayern he almost lost his head because he was the only one trying.

Can't pass? Total crap. He got 12 assists last season. None of our players could match that.

Dribbling and pace are his main strengths and somehow you think he has neither?

No defensive capabilities yet he has played wing back in cup finals facing up against Hazard and then Pedro, of which Arsenal have won both.

He has his weaknesses. He doesn't track runners in midfield and he needs to score more goals but you are literally making stuff up.

{Ed001's Note - Wijnaldum and Lallana both got more assists than him in the league, as did Matty Phillips and Wilfried Zaha, do you want us to go for them too based on one dreadful stat that is utterly meaningless? The assist stat is the worst of the lot.}

I'm not using that stat to claim he is a better player than anyone Ed. I'm simply using it to debunk the statement that he "he can't pass the ball".

That is an over the top ill considered sweeping statement. He clearly can pass the ball. If the OP had questioned the consistency or range of his passing, I'd consider it acceptable debate and a fair opinion. But he didn't. It was just senseless, over the top abuse which can easily be torn up with a simple stat. It doesn't need context in this scenario because 12 assists in any top flight league/ Champions league is proof you can pass. It doesn't conclusively prove how good he is at it, but it does rubbish the theory he is totally inept at it.

{Ed001's Note - but it doesn't mean he can pass the ball. It means a ball has come from him and someone has put it in the back of the net before anyone else has had a touch. Depending on the stats company that compiled them, that could come from him shooting and hitting bar or post and coming out to a player following up. It could also mean he trips over the ball and the next player to reach it scored after beating 10 players. Assists are utterly completely meaningless bollox without knowing how they came about.}

I also didn't say we should sign him because he got 12 assists by the way Ed, so i think you've misinterpreted something there.

I think we should sign him because he is versatile, proven at the very top level, still young, suits Klopps style of play and clearly has raw talent. I've only ever used his assist tally to defend him or support my opinion, not as the basis for it.

{Ed001's Note - he is not proven though is he? His assist tally is meaningless, it is no defence nor does it support your opinion as it is just numbers with no context.}

Ed all 12 of them can be seen on readily available highlight reels. Most of them were crosses and intricate through balls. I don't see why i need to explain each assist individually to validate a tally of 12. You are right, some can be fluked, but nobody flukes 12.

{Ed001's Note - tell that to Downing who got none despite creating more scoring chances than any player in the Premier League in a season. Assists are the worst stat of all. They are as reliant on the player receiving the ball to be in the right place and having the good fortune or ability to put the ball in the net, as well as the keeper not being there. I am not disputing whether or not Ox is a decent passer, I am disputing your usage of the worst stat of them all to try and prove a point it in no way proves or even relates to.}

i just think he offers little in comparison to lemar, he would be twice the price but twice the player. He offers a back up incase salah or mane get injured or even firmino. Also against teams that play deeper which is 80% of prem games then he is provides more creativity in midfield than that of one of can wijnalum and henderson. When its hard to break them down he provides an alternate solution where as ox doesn't do any of this.

MK, you were the same guy who said Ox was better than Lallana, right? Yeah, you did that. Come on, use your eyes, man. Ox is simply poor. period. The guy can't pass, can't cross, can't score. He's marginally better than Welbeck, which is a scathing indictment on Ox's ability, really. He is a failed winger and is a non-entity in CM. He offers next to nothing to our team apart from depth. Now if you want a stat, here's one for you: Ox has scored an enormous 9 goals in 170 games. Let that sink in. Salah, Mane, Cou, Lallana, Wiji (at Newcastle) all scored more than him in one season and each player cost much less than Ox if signed for 40m. Job done! You're welcome.

He's a mid table player at best.

i don't think he's that, your telling me he would get in the west ham team?, or even bournmouth?, i don't think so he's a championship player at best and i pray to god he doesn't come. it would be him or lemar so i want klopp to think seriously before we go backwards and don't win a thing again as we have to give a 35 mil pound man game time.

There were 9 other players not worthy of any prem team mate. Who are the two other wingers that would start ahead of him.

Seeing as the lad is young, English, plays several positions we could use cover in, is experienced in prem and champions league and by all accounts seems to be a hard worker as well as the fact that he turned down a chance to represent the title winners and leave another strong English team to work with klopp I can't imagine why so many scoff at the signing.
