ED002,
Aside from Keita, OX, MIlner and possibly Firmino leaving on free's. I've seen you mention Konate and Fabinho possibly being replaced. Are you aware of LFC actively trying to move anyone on. Someone we may be suprised by?

{Ed002's Note - No, but if Liverpool want a shiny expensive new CB then he would need to make way. Liverpool have been looking at DM players so Fabinho (DM/RB) May make way in the summer if a DM player arrives - and Liverpool have been looking. Real Madrid may be interested at the right price but he would likely not be a starter so that may not suit him.}

Hi Ed002, surely moving on Matip for a new cb would be what we’d consider doing? Or is your point that we’d need to raise more funds than Matip could, so it would have to be Konate in that case.
Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - Matip will not be replaced by Gvardiol. Liverpool have others in mind that would be a suitable upgrade on Matip.}

Do you see any interest in letting Joe Gomez go Ed?

{Ed002's Note - I don't think so.}

Hi Ed002, if you don't mind me asking, who would be the Matip upgrade options were Liverpool to go down that route rather than the expensive one?

{Ed002's Note - Shuurs and Ndicka.}

Thanks Ed002, could you share any names? I see you’ve said that we’ve watched the two young lads from Portugal but wondering if there’s anyone else.

{Ed002's Note - They are hugely expensive - Shuurs and Ndicka provide better options.}

Is that Perr Schuurs, Ed002? Would Torino sell so soon after signing him?

{Ed002's Note - Yes, at the right price, which I suspect will be high at something like €40m.}

We were linked with Schurrs around the time of Kabak and Davies haven't heard much since he left Ajax has he developed much?

{Ed002's Note - He only moved in the summer.}

I hope the club hasn't lost it completely. Spending big on a CB, creating a situation where you need to devote time to moving Konate, when we already have Konate (! ), seems so unbelievably foolish. We need a player of similar quality to Konate that can rotate with him and VVD.

Cheers Ed002. Ndicka on a free would be the optimum choice then as he's at least as good as Schuurs. Both are good players though.

I would be happy with Schuurs; haven't seen Ndicka play yet so can't say.

Beginning to read stories about Oludare Olufunwa and Billy Koumetio from the U21's too. Maybe it's to support these stories about senior Cb's moving on or maybe they really are progressing. We'll find out in the summer, I guess.

I fail to understand why the club would sell Konate, granted he does suffer with the occasional niggling injury, but on his day I think that he is immense. For me, him and Van Dijk are the only cbs that I would definitely keep.

MK, do you see either of Schuurs or Ndicka being an upgrade on Konate? I don't, and I wouldn't see the point in signing either of them.

I think Ed002 is saying that we won’t be going for the likes of Gvardiol to replace Matip as they wouldn’t be happy to sit on the bench and wait for their chance. If we were to go for someone like Gvardiol then it would be to replace Konate or VVD.

If Matip were to be replaced then N’Dicka and Shuurs would fit the bill and be a suitable upgrade.

That’s how I read it anyway. Apologies if I’ve got the wrong end of the stick Ed.

{Ed002's Note - A good summery.}

Phillips? . where does he fit into this equation. he seems more than capable. Is he not happy with a rotating role?

Hello ArAy1969,

your'e better than koumetio he's a big pudding!

Sadly won't be sitting in the kop anymore had a very recent family bereavement and one of his last wishes was for a family member to continue sitting in his seat for the future, the last time i was in the kemlyn road was with me now long gone dad watching on a snow drenched pitch LFC play Ferencvaros 09/ 01/ 1968 in a fairs cup game, vaguely remember the orange ball and Ferencvaros wore an all white kit how did they see each other peripheral wise! it ended 0-0, i was only 13 we went on the back of a red honda 50cc motor bike you did not have to wear crash helmets then, we used to park in the LFC club doctors house his name Dr Reid on Priory Road, my dads brother married the doctors daughter, match tickets were 15 shillings then, it was a second leg game we got knocked out that night as we were one goal down from the away leg. Hope it's not 0-0 tomorrow.

The bereaved red family member married my only sisters daughter he bought David Jameses old house on the Wirral it has stables, tennis courts, basketball court, five a side pitch and outdoor swimming pool etc he told me once that the first time he took my niece to watch a game she did not know that the teams changed ends at half time because when the second half started she said to him "why are Liverpool attacking there own goal"of course everyone turned round and looked at her knowing she had never been to a football match ever! He used to have two season tickets so my niece is going as a token of her love for him tomorrow night.

Cheers Footyfan. I, like a good many others on here, would swap VVD for Gvardiol in a heart beat, but I don't ever think that would happen. However, can any of the biggest sides in Europe guarantee a starting place for any player they buy, no matter how good they are?

To be fair Rome, I wasn’t offering an opinion just trying to point out that the Ed was saying who was of interest and why. It seemed to have gotten a little lost due to the numerous posts.

Personally I think we need to add realistic targets in those positions where we are weakest. Obviously midfield. If we could add a couple of top quality midfielders (to replace Ox and Keita), and replace Matip for a good level robust CB who is happy to fight for his place, I think that would be a good window.

Then upgrade and replace players as needed in the next windows.

Rome, i think Schuurs and Ndicka are both upgrades on Matip, Phillips and Gomez.

They're probably about even with Konate, but the key difference is they are more robust.
