Something about Ryan grav seems of to me, he seems to go missing when we don't have the ball Something to do with his positioning maybe that's where Curtis over him for now over him. if we play a team like city away I would not play him as it will be like playing with ten men without the ball.

We had no width on the left. On the right Salah did provide us the width not that everyone would like it but that was instructed, why he had a quiet game. Szobo never got into the box somehting he should do when salah goes out wide.
On the left it was a mess. Jota is a central player everyone with one eye gets it and won't suit when your winders have to provide the width. Gravenverch only comes into the equation if he is given the space to drive which never happened as Jota was constantly cutting in.
I don't rate Tsmiskas. he is a terrible crosser of the ball and an equally poor defender. A proper £10 mill player. Playing him wouldn't have given us any advantage as he can't cross a meaningful ball at all. Had tsmiskas played Luton would have attacked him as well.
These are the sort of the games where you should burry those one off half chances and we did not.

Never thought the day would come where I would agree with Harry.

Was screaming whole game for someone to get out wide to provide some width. Shocking that the coaching staff cannot identify the issue really.

On the game, it seems the first 20min is too easy for us. Running through the midfield, getting shots away at will. (Nunez alone with 4 or 5)

Seems the team got complacent thereafter, thinking it’s a matter of time before we score. As Luton switch to low block, we just run out of ideas, resorting to hopeful long shots.

Very very poor from our end.

Very poor day at the office for all players involved.

I feel for the fans who made the journey to Luton to watch it.

For me we came away with 2 points dropped rather than 3 dropped.

Luton outworked and outfought us for 90 mins. Next up is Brentford who will look to do the exact same thing.

Think the coaching is the main problem and has been for 18 months. Seems like trent has a free role now and has been trusted to fill in defence when needed. It's a failure. He just wants to go in the middle all the time and klopp not once told him to go wide when it was clear to anyone watching that match.
I remember rafa wanted Gerrard to play more on the right side and Gerrard got his way and played centrally. Hope this isn't the same scenario playing out.
Has klopp delegated too much or is simply less than the captain of the ship now. Does he still hold the same authority over these players? I'm not sure. The results last season imo instilled fear into klopp and now he hides behind linders pure garbage of presented football because we have been fortunate with results. It is a results game.
There's wonderful attacking players throughout our team and we looked chained around a full back. It's nuts.
Macaliister too is top top quality and playing the 6 he looks woeful. Have to say, the mind does wonder at times what this squad of players would be like under pep. Klopp doesn't want Liverpool fc to be a klopp team. he's allowed it to be his assistants team.

Awesome read as usual, Ed01. You described the performance peoperly. And absolute shambles from the players and most importantly, the coaching staff who literally failed to do their jobs and recognise what many of us on here and on social media were seeing.

Like I have said, Klopp has his blind spots and he is allowing himself to be convinced of the absurdities we are seeing in front of our very eyes. I hope he backs down and takes control cos as MIZER sa Klopp may have delegated a bit too much and it is killing us despite our very solid start to the season.

{Ed001's Note - to be fair, in the dugout is not the best view of the game. That's why clubs have analysts/assistants posted in the stands to get a better angle.}

@Mizer

Klopp wanted lavia bad. clear indication he wouldn't deploy McAllister in that role. don't ask me why he doesn't trust Endo. Ask others. This team or any team with any style requires a top top quality DM which we did not sign.

Not sure why Tris, but got a feeling Jones or Grav will play 6 instead of Endo next week. I really hope Endo gets the nod though.

{Ed001's Note - I would like it to be Trent if not Endo myself.}

To a degree I can understand Klopp sticking with the IWB system because we have got good results with it the past 6 or 7 months. Although personally I think that has as much to do with the quality of the players Klopp's assembled as it has to do with tucking Trent into midfield and leaving the right center back to cover half a pitch. Off the top of my head there's only been Villa where the result seemed to be really be down to the system.

But surely he could see after 45 minutes that it wasn't working against Luton? At that point surely he says to Trent "play as an orthodox right wing back from now on. Get up that touchline and start pinging in crosses. Don't want to see you in the center circle again. "

Agree with ed001 here. Think Trent as our six then you have him in the middle dictating the play with proper full backs bombing forward for width just like it used to be and bin the hybrid role.

Do you know how long Bradley is injured Ed? Actually looking forward to watch him play at RB. I was hoping he could be our RB and Trent moves permanently as a 6. That would save money instead of looking at other DM options.

{Ed001's Note - no I don't know sorry. I was enjoying how we started preseason with him at RB and Trent in midfield. We looked really good.}

I just wish we started with a 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 and kept the shape. Then if we weren't progressing, we could switch to inverting Trent for a different option, rather than starting off like this.

Agree with your synopsis, Ed.

There was a moment in the second half when a Luton player was getting treatment, where Klopp dragged Szoboszlai and Trent over to give them some instructions. Trent then proceeded to go even further infield.

There were also a couple of very frustrating moments where they passed to Tsimikas’ right foot, forcing him to invert, when we desperately needed width.

Elliott was excellent when he came on.

Harry, Klopp wanted Lavia so bad he could not be arsed to get us pay what Saints wanted for him, right? Give over, mate cos none of what you say is true, obviouslyl.

Klopp wanted Szobo, paid the money and got on with it. Same with Macca, Grav and Endo. No issues. No waffling about. Oh and you can add Caicedo to that list as well.

If we wanted Lavia as bad as you say, we would not have been negotiating the price down with Saints. Just saying.

Or we could use the proper fullback to bomb forward and use an actual midfielder to dictate the play. It takes more than a few admittedly superb passes from Trent when he's totally free in midfield because we outnumber the opponents to convince me Trent is a midfielder. I think if he was in there on a weekly basis without the luxury of been totally free everytime he gets the ball it wouldn't be long before people would want him back at rightfull.

{Ed001's Note - to be fair, he got in the team initially because he was so outstanding in midfield that he was shoehorned in out of position at right-back. Initially the plan was always to put him back into midfield once we got a proper right-back. It is only because he was so good there that the plan ended up being put on the backburner. If Bradley and Ramsay push on, it would make sense to revisit the plan, rather than waste their talents.

And, more to the point, if the alternative is Mac Allister playing that deep-lying role, then we need Trent in there! Mac Allister can then play further forward where he is best.}

Just think Trent would get caught on the ball just as much as Mac, and miss him delivering from the right.
