Looks like Hendo has agreed to join Gerrard!

Romano reporting he has agreed terms. Over to Liverpool now to decide.

Looks like it’s not Hendo being forced out but him choosing to leave.

I assume he is going to have to change his rainbow boot laces and social media posts where he preached about human rights abuse in the Middle East. Apparently morals come with a clear price tag and that price has been met!

It’s Hendo’s decision. Football is his career choice…. it’s business.

If he goes then he will leave us with some great memories.

I really don’t think it’s appropriate to try to take a moral high ground on this.

I buy petrol some of which no doubt comes from Saudi.

I wonder how these players will feel when, like those American tourists, the team bus passes an area where people are being beheaded.

{Ed025's Note - probably grab the heads and try to flog them Pegleg..

If Hendo has crossed the Rubicon by accepting Saudi money, then he already did so by joining the EPL with all its American private equity money.

Come on people, give it a rest. The convenient line drawing is giving me Marty Feldman eyes.

Christ there's some high horses on parade today. Good luck to the lad, he's been a good player for this club and an even better captain.

Its pretty sad to see so many players sign up for the “project” that is the Saudi Arabian league. Milenkovic savic being the latest player to leave for the middle east at his ‘peak’.
I can't say I agree when fans say”oh he’s entitled to one last pay day” yeah, hundreds of thousands of pounds a week to play in Europe must be such a hinderance to a happy life.

13 Jul 2023 15:30:23
Before we start bashing him we have no idea what he will do with that money. He might set up charities on the back of this or donate to causes he believes in.

Hendo seems a principled chap and whilst it looks like he is selling out he might just do a lot of good with the money the Saudis are throwing at him.

He is the beat captain I have witnessed at Liverpool (not player, before I'm told stevie was better) and I can't fault him for wanting to set his kids and their kids up for life.

Ed0025 anymore of these offensive comments and you’ll have snowflakes outside your house in July which would be a first for Liverpool and climate change.

{Ed025's Note - I must admit I’m not very woke JK, I’m one of them dinosaurs who tell it like it is mate, a lot disagree with me and that’s fine but don’t ask me to change because I have morals and a conscience, I happen to like who I am..

Been a great player and captain for us, if that's his decision then I wish him well

Mixed feelings if he goes, on the one hand his body cannot compete like he did a couple of years ago but he very much still has much left to offer Liverpool, particularly as a captain

Though the money he will receive for this means he will never have to worry about money for the rest of his life so i wish him luck.

Let’s hope so Wyred! A lot of people are rightly pointing out that’s it’s his decision and his right to earn millions more money in Saudi and this is all true, others argue that as a society we are all complicit in endorsing such states through our actions such as buying fuel from these countries or being employed by companies funded by these states again all true However, not all working class people can afford to oppose such regimes or even have a viable alternative. My only issue with his potential decision is his very public statements about human rights issues in the Middle East, his public solidarity with the LGBTQ community only to then up and move to the very states which you apparently oppose. Perhaps this shows why footballers should stick to football and remain silent on societal issues as he risks looking like a bell end! For the record I still see Jordan as a fantastic captain, a great servant to the club and a Liverpool legend!

If that is his wish then by all means, we should let him go, no doubt. We shall see how things play out in the TW with him potentially going. The money involved in terms of wages? The economic reality is what it is.

As for the whole LGBT stuff and the organisation Hendo has been working with to foster LGBT rights and the backlash that will come should he leave, that's his cross to bear. Again, it is what it is.

It's not high horses AAR91, it's Burj Khalifa height and level of hypocrisy. First, people didn't want Saudi money coming into British football. That's fine. I respect those who espouse human rights and ideals, it's a commendable thing to do; (while we'll all forget about how Saudi oil fulfills western hunger for energy consumption now, and the roughly 200-300 years of global imperialism where disregard for human rights were the rule and not the exception) . Now the Saudis want to build their own League with their own money, in their own country and territory, and even that is not acceptable; people are passing judgement as if they have a rightful say in the matter. They don't. ?

I have posted earlier, that I would not begrudge Hendo a final big contract payday. It's well deserved in my opinion, after what he has done for the club. And his choice to make.

I have no issue with a player who takes Saudi money. I know I would in their situation. But I am also a guy who is laid-back and doesn't tell others what they should believe.

Henderson has presented himself as a holier-than-thou figure for a number of years now. He has been very vocal on LGBT issues, no doubt in part because it's good for the brand image. But now he is willing to take the money from a place where LGBT rights are completely non-existent.

It just goes to show, when a footballer is preaching about the latest social justice cause, take it with a pinch of salt. They are only following the American sports model where advocacy is good for the brand. They aren't better than you like they pretend to be.

Genuine question.

What were people’s opinions when Ronaldo chose to move to Saudi last year?

I’d be very surprised if they are what opinions seem to be now with if Hendo were to move and Bobby and Stevie already have.

Obviously people can say they wished Ronaldo all the best and he deserved a final pay day to look after his children and his children’s children.

I can also remember lots of posters boycotting watching the Qatar World Cup due to humanity reasons.

I’m sure people will deny they felt this way but I believe integrity tells you a lot about a person.

When Ronaldo left I threw pelters at him.

Guardian suggests LFC want £10m.
If he goes, then good luck to him, he’s been a fantastic captain and never ever let us down. A leader on and off the pitch and we should appreciate the trophies he’s helped bring to Anfield.
As for his support for LGBTQ+ rights and other causes, there’s no reason why he can’t keep that up but he will have to adapt to circumstances. Doesn’t mean he’ll just give up on it all. He might be a footballer but he’s not thick. He’ll do what he can and after the stint in SA he’ll be in a great position to do more.
Thanks Hendo for wearing that shirt with pride. YNWA.

I reckon there in fact should be law enacted that says if any sporting individual stands on 5 different makeshift platforms and holds up 5 different trophies for the same team then he MUST be paid 700k a week for as long as his spindly legs can keep him up.

21.) 13 Jul 2023
13 Jul 2023 18:42:55
I don’t look to footballers for a moral compass, because I have a brain.

Henderson going to SA or not is not going to impact SA politics one iota.

So his career choice is a matter of supreme indifference to me.

I look to politicians to make myself feel good.

I’ll never be as morally bankrupt and dangerously incompetent as the feckless morons voted into and appointed to both Houses of Parliament.
