The difference between us winning the league and city is: we don’t capitalise we should of brought in new and more talent no matter how successful we are! It keeps lads Moving and on their toes and bodies fresh and hungry!
Yes city is a money machine but we didn’t really try and keep it up and it’s caught up with us and we can see with the state the mid is in!
I’m hoping this window we can bring in a engine that will keep us moving!
One mid in 4’1/ 2 years is a shambles!
Keita ox Milner Jones should of been gone years back and replaced but the loyalty to them is to much!
Fergie would of ran a lot of them he always kept lads fresh and on the up!
LFC seems to be a we don’t need it till we need it attitude! where as city have a I’d rather be looking at it then looking for it one!
Season is far from over but we need to strengthen this window big time!
Cm and a Lb for me!
( a Lb you say) yes Trent is way to relaxed and cool for me he needs to be push and rejuvenated like robbo was!
Just my view words.

Spot on! You need to keep refreshing the squad every now and then we failed or do that. Period. And I don’t get this “we can’t spend like city” it has no relevance. We should spend like a team that generates £600 mill in revenue.
We have signed tow CM in the last 4 years which is unacceptable and proper shambles.

Yes, the club that won so much in the last 4 years is a shambles.
And we should definitely enter a chequebook war with City, that will definitely end well.

Well said, FlashTheRed. And Jay dub, Trent plays right back.

I think Liverpool has spent just under €200 million in the last 3 windows, 2 of them January windows and this one not even closed yet. It might not be City standards but it ain’t peanuts either.

Sorry. didn't we bring in a young and talented RB in the summer. Calvin Ramsay anybody? Also. why get rid of Jones? No he may never be a world class legend (though time may tell) but he bleeds for the team and that means just as much. We can't fill the squad with 100 million pound starters. only 11 can be on the field at any one time you know.

There’s a lot of truth in what the original poster said. I do believe ignoring the midfield has been a weakness, and we have not kept developing the team from a position of strength and it’s let others in like Arsenal and Newcastle. We really should have improved the midfield in the summer.

Manager didn't want to.

Didn't we have an interest in Tchouameni? Valverde? Didn't we sign Arthur on loan?
I know some of you want a Plan B because we had some injuries but is it still Plan Bissouma?
Spurs might be prepared to offload him if it is.

Did we 'ignore' the midfield, is Klopp, one of the best football managers in the world, really that oblivious to the club's short comings, or did the club try to sign players and for reasons unknown to those outside of the club, they didn't work out. So rather than spend the money for the sake of it, they held off with the intention of strengthening when the right player becomes available and wants to join.
I don't know, seems unrealistic really, it's easier to just blame the owners.

Keita, Ox, Milner and Jones all have contracts. How do we replace them if they are still here? Of course we could pay them off and ask other clubs to do the same with Bellingham, Rice and Caceido and ensure that, as free agents, their wage demands are acceptable to Liverpool and that they must come here.
Meanwhile, back in the real world.

No Jay we don’t need a right back (I’ll presume that’s what you meant and you don’t actually think Trent plays left back) .

We just bought the player you want in the last transfer window. He’s already here.

The great Liverpool teams of the 70s and 80s constantly shook it up.

The only similarity to the midfield situation we have today I can see is when Case and Souness left in quick succession to be replaced by Molby and McMahon, with Whelan the constant.

If we cannot buy new players and refresh, we will stagnate and fall down the league, making us unattractive to the top tier midfielders.

We made a massive mistake on Keita, showed too much loyalty to Ox and gave Hendo a far too generous extension, even if he did merit a payrise, it should have been a shorter duration. These things, along with C.V., have hindered us dramatically at the worst possible time.

We didn’t have the luxury of a rich sugar Daddy and spent money improving the stadium, things Arsenal and Tottenham are now reaping the benefit of. Man Utd will always have money, it’s whether they can spend it.

We need to act now, or the costs of reparation in the summer will be huge, and we probably will not be as attractive as previous seasons. Plus everyone knows we are in the market for 2-3 midfielders so will be holding us to ransom.

There may be trouble ahead ….

I meant RB above and yes I do think we need another one to push Trent!

14.) 07 Jan 2023

“When I get to the bottom, I go back to the top of the slide …”

Can I ask, once we have bought one, or possibly 2 or 3 midfielders over the next couple of windows, which area of the squad should we focus on next? At least it should change the bickering away from the midfield.

Surely I can’t be the only one who is finding the pantomime “Oh yes we should, oh no we shouldn’t” pantomime. Even for obsessive it’s getting too much?

15.) 07 Jan 2023

The second ‘pantomime’ should have read ‘f#cking tedious’.

Jay dub, if you think Trent plays left back (and it wasn’t a typing error, as you did it twice), it makes me wonder if you even watch Liverpool.

Shankly and paisley continued sucess was to never sit on their laurels every season two or three players would be brought in and one or two would depart have a look at what them two great managers and trophies they picked up.

18.) 07 Jan 2023

The managers from the 60’s to the late 80’s when AC Milan helped introduce the craze of buying titles and trophies didn’t have to contend with massively over-inflated prices due to obscene spending power by state owned clubs and the ridiculous demands of parasitic agents.

The Bootroom knew what they were doing and brought in players with the potential to play the way the. Luv wanted to play. Finance was not the sole dominant factors back in the day and comparisons can’t really be made in terms of the context of the times.

However, and I’m not sure if this has been mentioned before but I think our midfield could do with a bit of tweaking.

08 Jan 2023 02:25:16
What about Klopp's continued success? We won two trophies last season.
And the game has changed since Shankly and Paisley's time. Man City were not even a team then. We used to play them on New Year's Day because our players and fans had hangovers and it wouldn't interrupt our title run in.

OP sorry BUT rehashing old rants about what we what we shoulda/ coulda/ woulda done is irrelevant and does absolutely NOTHING to help us now, which is what should matter most. Also comparing football 40/ 50 years ago to now where you are competing with nation state owned clubs for ex. is pretty not even worth addressing.

Now if you think we shoulda strengthened after we won the title then, aim you grief at your manager who mind you, spent 200m in the past 4 windows, NONE of which were spent on actual central midfielders suitable for his own system. He ignored the midfield. His cross to bear.
