Nunez was poor today had me thinking who’s the last Liverpool player to have a really good world cup? Lovren was ok in 2018. Torres won it in 2010 but he himself wasn’t that good at the tournament. 06 can’t remember Alonso Gerrard etc standing out. 02 again no standouts. Owen has that goal vs Argentina in 98 maybe but that’s one goal. I find myself watching it everytime it rolls around and the Liverpool players there never standout. Id love to see one of our lads light up the world stage.

Not trying to slate Nunez or anything like that, but if there's anything that he really needs to work on, it's his first touch. It's so crucial for a forward (and the way we play) and he seems to be getting it wrong half the time. If Uruguay end up going home early, I would ask Klopp to make him work on first touch only, for the next 3 weeks. ?.

To be fair I don’t think you can blame Uruguays performances on Nunez, he’s been the only one actually trying to play football up top. The selections and tactics from the Uruguay manager have been utterly atrocious.

Ed001 am glad I don’t care how are player perform at the World Cup just hope they all come back fit. I did not watch Uruguay yesterday but the first game I thought he did ok was working really hard it was like they was playing with 10 men with Suarez in the team. I did turn it on right at the end to see Portugal get a pen and and the Commentator did say, Uruguay had played better once I have gone behind but I turned it straight off after seeing that stupid penalty decision.

{Ed001's Note - I have so much interest in the World Cup that I have watched none of it at all. International football is irrelevant to how a player performs for us, it is a totally different game these days.}

You're right Ed usually i don't fall asleep when club football is being played but when it comes to International i feel dizzy and watching men on the sidelines like Southgate who doesn't have a clue about managing a team add spice to that.

{Ed001's Note - it is embarrassing to watch someone like that involved and Bobby Martinez. International football used to have the best managers and be the peak of the game, now it is full of failures.}

Yeah you're right Rome it's all coming back to me now. Like Ed01 I'm not a huge fan of the world cup and tend to drift in and out. So much so that due to my increasing age and years and years of personal bad habits a lot of tornaments are kind of merging together for me. Going back to the match where Alonso nearly got cut in half and Howard Webb bottled sending off De Jong, I was very impressed with Dirk throughout that competition. I'm not sure if he scored but he never seemed out of place in that team. Until the De Jong incident I was actually hoping for a Dutch win in the final just for him.

Suarez was with us at the time but making strong noises about wanting to be elsewhere. So the Chielini bite came along at the right time. He got his 90 day suspension and the club gave him the transfer he wanted.
