My self and other posters said after United got thumped 4-0 by Brentford and some of our posters went over to thier page and gave them loads that if Liverpool had two more poor performances United are ahead of us in the league . We got battered for that. Well here you are. Fair play to EtH and United what a turn around.

Why Milner is on the pitch still is beyond me. Robbo is shocking he really is as bad as I've seen him. Bobby is awful. Henderson has been poor for months as has Trent. Fabhino is not playing but just as bad recently. This squad needed investment, not sell to buy but investment from the owners. Keita, Ox, Milner, Henderson, Bobby all needed moving in the the summer. With replacements of a high standard brought in to keep up what has been a magnificent 4 seasons. Awful display but I fear standards are set for the season.

Klopp is really starting to show he is stubborn and will not change and is far to loyal to ageing uncreative and slow players. To say they have served us well so deserve to play is not good enough. His team selection of Milner is baffling. Zero creativity. No drive. 8th place fonish at best this season.

Klopp out?

2.) 22 Aug 2022
22 Aug 2022 21:33:05
No to Klopp out but he isn't perfect either. No manager is. He can be too trusting in his players. Like 2 seasons ago when we went into a season with 3 centre backs, 2 of whom were incredibly injury-prone. He is showing that same naivety here. Yes we have a lot of bodies in midfield but most of them are not good enough.

Let’s not be silly. Team are playing poorly but Klopp will sort it out. I said this season will be a write off and I really just hope we get top 4. Maybe this will even persuade the owners to actually give Klopp some money to buy a couple players.

Haven’t had this sinking feeling since Klopp came in. Really hope we haven’t peaked and it’s all downhill from here.

One thing that is clear though, Elliot cannot play on the right side of a 3. Yes he plays well but it leaves Trent so exposed. Hendo has compensated for Trent’s lack of defensive awareness over the years and allowed him to play with freedom.

I can't see FSG changing thier philosophy Joshkel91, it will be sell to buy. So who do we have that we want to sell that will raise enough to fund buying high quantity replacements. Answer is no one.

7.) 22 Aug 2022
22 Aug 2022 21:57:28
@joshkel91 the only way klopp is going to sort the team out is to get some quality into the midfield, an attacking mid and another defensive mid…. Trent without someone covering him is an absolute liability. But go be fair, our centre backs haven’t covered themselves with glory this season. And he needs to have more than tactic, as teams have sussed out how we play, so a 4-3-3 formation will not work against a 4-5-1 formation, as we don’t have the players to break those teams down.

We miss mane but we will get it right.

{Ed025's Note - you were playing with 10 men with Bobby on the pitch jimjim. But on a side note how horrible is that Bruno Fernandez? He’s a disgrace mate..

Ed025 firminho and a few others should have been already sold. Thay includes ox and keita but trent and virg, some of their defending recently at the back has been a disgrace. They're both still kn holiday.

{Ed025's Note - I can’t argue with that cookie mate..

Midfield been poor for two seasons now they've been ageing and getting worse the only shining light wa thiago finding his feet, the papered over the cracks. The midfield needs a revamp it did last year its still in decline.

If you didn’t see this result coming, you ain’t watched Liverpool vs Fulham and Palace.
The superfans come on here and start having full on debates how we don’t need Midfielders, yet they don’t watch the game. If you’ve actually seen us play this season, you’ll know we’re bang in trouble.

Embarrassing start to the season (our worst premier league points Talley after 3 games) . It’s only embarrassing for me because of all the mocking our fans have done regarding Utd and then we go and perform like that.

I can take not winning games and I can take losing games. Christ for the 40 years I’ve supported the club 30 of them we didn’t even win a title and for a lot of them we weren’t even competing for the title or top 4.

What I can’t take though is performances that look like the players lack effort and desire. Results can change quickly but that’s 3 performances now on the bounce where we’ve lacked the minerals to work hard and fight to earn the right to play.

Naby gets hammered on here for shirking tackles but tonight I witnessed lots of our players doing the same (this isn’t a Naby defence post but I hope we don’t show double standards now like we usually do) .

If Bobby is our goal threat for the next 2 games then things could get worse before they get better. I’m fairness to Bobby be a tau ally had some neat play and touches but they were all closer to our box than Utds.

We should start calling him jigsaw because he seems to go to pieces in the box.

I’m sure people will be able to put a positive spin on tonight and I’m actually looking forward to reading them because I could do with a laugh and some cheering up.

If Jurgen thinks that squad is good enough, then he can go with FSG as well.

FootyFANNY "the Table never lies". Even Harry Mcguire would improve are defence.

FSG if you are listening i would rather watch a Five Star team in a One star stadium, than your views of watching a One star team in a Five star Stadium.

My best LFC days were watching Five star teams from the not even one star Spion Kop.

Liverpool are wanting to play this slower, more controlled game and our opponents so far this season are just not having it.
The problem is we just can’t seem to go up a gear or two until it’s too late and we’re chasing the game.
The amount of high intensity football this team has played over the past few seasons, feels like we need some fresh legs to bring that energy back.
And we’ve gotten rid of the two fittest most reliable players and are left with too many walking wounded.

17.) 22 Aug 2022
22 Aug 2022 22:22:07
Only thing positive is that it’s still early enough in the season to turn it around. I think Nunez massively let himself and all of us down with his red card. He is the type of option we needed up front to run in behind and occupy defenders.

I said at the start of the season we didn’t have enough in midfield to seriously challenge and disappointingly seems I am right. I didn’t expect us to look this bad though and genuinely just hope we get top 4. We need Thiago back asap!

Carvalho looked a proper player when he came on, think he should be given the chance to start next game.

18.) 22 Aug 2022
22 Aug 2022 22:22:57
The owners make investment in the squad
when the right players are available and identified. Dias and Numez and huge contract for Salah. Some fans want us to panic buy like we were laughing at United for in the last few years. Do the fans want rabiot etc?

19.) 22 Aug 2022
22 Aug 2022 22:23:56
Now we're gona see what our manager is made of n he will we don't have a god given right to win football matches something I think we've forgotten it will improve n we'll be stronger for it.

Longlivetheking - it’s not about us panic buying. We have had all summer to identify options that are better than what we have and refused to do so. It has been clear since last season we are lacking physicality and pace in the middle of the park.

I understanding we may be waiting for the right player but our issue is that we need someone now for this season to be a success and by next season we will arguably need another midfielder anyway.

Is what it is but and maybe we’ve been spoilt but I’m genuinely concerned about our top 4 aspirations this year and hope it doesn’t affect who we can bring in next year if we don’t get it.

24.) 22 Aug 2022
22 Aug 2022 22:26:52
Ed025 why do you think as an outsider why we have started this season of soo poorly?

{Ed025's Note - you let mane go and never invested in a quality midfielder cookie. Elliot and carvalho are ones for the future but you need quality now for me mate. Plus the likes of Bobby. Milner keita needed replacing but it’s hard for klopp to let go of his favourites. ..

25.) 22 Aug 2022
22 Aug 2022 22:40:42
I said we were poor against Fulham and Palace, I stand by that, we learnt nothing from those games and those abject performances and paid the price in full. Our midfield options really aren’t fit for purpose as things stand, they don’t protect the defence and offers nothing going forward.

26.) 22 Aug 2022
22 Aug 2022 22:41:19
I think one of the issues with the squad now that Klopp has is they are "his boys". I remember when Klopp first joined he was ruthless in deciding who made the grade but it was also needed. Sakho out, Benteke out, Skrtel out, Toure out, Allen out, Balotelli don't even bother turning up to training when you get back from loan, Markovic out. I think because this is the squad he has built and they have been together for years, he lacks that impartiality he once had in assessing their qualities. There is clearly a bond between him and the players which certainly has its strengths but there are weaknesses too. How many abrupt departures have we seen in the last few years? It seems like most of the exits are a mutual agreement that the time has come to say goodbye with lots of love and kisses like in the cases of Sturridge, Lovren, Lallana, Wijnaldum, Origi and Mane. Klopp doesn't seem to have it in him to tell some of the guys we have now that they simply are no longer good enough to play for Liverpool.

27.) 22 Aug 2022
22 Aug 2022 22:43:17
6Times ?. As I said mate it wasn’t in defence of Naby but will be interesting to see if others are tarnishes with the same brush.

Matip was blamed 2 weeks ago for Vvd giving a penalty away because he gave the ball away. I wonder if the same criticism will be aimed at Hendo tonight for the 2nd goal.

First goal Trent, Vvd and Milner were all shocking.

28.) 23 Aug 2022
22 Aug 2022 23:47:45
Shame the boys are taking the season off, was hoping to win the Premier again in my lifetime. Mane really was the heartbeat of this team and we have replaced him with unproven kids and stupidity in the case of nunez. I was angry after Fulham, and concerned after Palace, now I am indifferent, if they can't be assed to get themselves up for united, I won't be assed to get myself worked up anymore. Shame really and please don't quote the injuries, we had it worse in 2020 but we at least looked like we were trying, even when we got spanked.

29.) 23 Aug 2022
23 Aug 2022 00:03:05
JK23, if tonight didn’t prove Hendo isn’t number 6 then I don’t know what does he really isn’t good in that position, also Milner simply isn’t up to it any more as a starter, that was obvious against Palace and even more so tonight.

Anything less than a win against Bournemouth at the weekend and we really are in trouble.

30.) 23 Aug 2022
23 Aug 2022 00:04:32
@Kimuraking, what’s the basis for you saying that FSG’s philosophy is that we sell to enable us to buy? I don’t see any consistent evidence to support that statement. In the last few windows we have made significant purchases for the first team squad - Konate, Tsimikas, Alcantara, Diaz and Nunez spring to mind with Wijnaldum and Mane being the only two regular first team era to leave.

Even if I have got this wrong, based on the evidence of Transfermarkt our spend this window has been @ € 85.8m with our receipts from sales has been @ € 80.7m. Whilst a shortfall of € 5.1m is a considerable sum for me, in terms of football finances it’s basically the cost of signing a promising 16 year old these days.

I should add that despite what I’ve written above I don’t think the idea of managing (transfer) costs is a bad thing - quite the opposite in fact - but the assertion that it’s a philosophy that FSG stick to isn’t true.

I suspect the midfielders that we wanted (as players who would challenge for regular starting spots in the first 11) in this window either wanted to go somewhere else (Tchouameni), are contracted to clubs who didn’t want to sell Bellingham) or were players that we cooled our previous interest in due to evidence that their general character isn’t a good fit (Bissouma, Sarr) .

I know not everybody has the same opinion but I believe Klopp (believed him back in mid-July) when he said that we would only buy players who were available and would add to the team long term. My hope now is that if we sell Keita, who increasingly appears to have heart problems, that we don’t lose our nerve, or sight of what we are building, and panic buy.

31.) 23 Aug 2022
23 Aug 2022 00:18:04
JK23 - I couldn't believe what I was seeing, TAA strolling around the box for their first goal, like he CBA.

32.) 23 Aug 2022
23 Aug 2022 00:19:40
I would argue we reached our peak in terms of our performances in 2019. In 2020, we just got better at grinding out results. Our midfield lacks the energy it used to have.

33.) 23 Aug 2022
23 Aug 2022 01:35:09
Thing is West Derby, sitting waiting for the “perfect midfielder” is stupid.

There’s plenty of very good midfielders out there, it really doesn’t need to be a Tchouameni or Bellingham (who incidentally is MASSIVELY over rated), any of Nunes, Sangare, Bissouma, Laimer, Neuhaus or even Neves would be an instant improvement in our ranks, It was patently obvious in the last three matches that the “options” we have aren’t good enough, that Milner isn’t up to it any more as a starter, Henderson really isn’t a number six and that if the midfield doesn’t protect the back four and win the ball back quickly then it’s entirely useless as it offers nothing going forward.

Reality is that if we do nothing then the season will go down the toilet and we’ll end up panic buying in January anyway. Facts are that our midfield options really aren’t all that.

34.) 23 Aug 2022
23 Aug 2022 07:30:11
@6Times, if you replaced “facts are” with “my opinion is that” your post would have been a basis for a sensible discussion. As it is, in my opinion, you just sound like every other armchair critic, full of concern but with no responsibility.

35.) 23 Aug 2022
23 Aug 2022 07:38:25
6Time, totally agree with you…. our midfield options are non-existent. Carvalho and Elliott are ones for the future, they still seem a bit lightweight but there is definitely quality there. You then look at the rest of the ageing midfield and you have to be concerned. Plenty of experience but no pace and they certainly aren’t known for their skill. We need goalscoring midfielders and klopp doesn’t seem to have addressed this. Plus they provide no cover for our defence, which you need especially with Trent who I believe is becoming more of a liability…. he never seems to know where his man is and they end up scoring. He was definitely the weak link in our defence, hence why Utd kept going down the left, even the commentators said it. The other concerning thing is that the last three games, the opposition and have set up as 4-5-1…. clearly it works against our 4-3-3 formation as by dominating midfield, we are reduced to playing long balls that go no where or just losing the ball constantly. So perhaps a change in formation might help? However I genuinely believe that we do need a couple of quality midfielders to come in as our best midfielder is too injury prone, 2 are essentially kids, and the others are either past it or getting there!

36.) 23 Aug 2022
23 Aug 2022 08:08:01
I didn’t realise our net spend was as high as €5.1 mill. Probably up there with the Premier leagues best ever window that. .

I’m worried now that We will sell someone else to further balance the books. This must be where Naby comes into it.

If only we were awarded big prize money for finishing 2nd and getting to CL finals. We would be rolling in it ?.

37.) 23 Aug 2022
23 Aug 2022 11:03:14
@JK23 very astute analysis there. If we were rolling in it we could get out there and buy every midfielder available, especially those we know absolutely nothing about.

38.) 23 Aug 2022
23 Aug 2022 12:10:25
WDW we can’t though mate as none are available remember ?.

39.) 23 Aug 2022
23 Aug 2022 12:28:33
@JK - there are heaps of them available mate as gets pointed out everyday and they satisfy the ‘nobody knows anything about them’ criteria perfectly. Like Billy Connolly said ‘I want some of that, and some of that and loads of that and I want it now’.

40.) 23 Aug 2022
23 Aug 2022 13:02:15
WDW even Klopp is starting to change his tune on transfers. He’s gone from we don’t need one to he doesn’t control our spending even though he’s always looking to strengthen.

I can’t believe the crap fans have swayed Klopp. They’re like a bloody cult ?.
