Hey Ed1, are you in agreement that we need a back up winger for Salah and Mane next season?

I think we need an established alternative and, whilst I know you have a deep-seated aversion to him, I can't think of many players as good as Shakiri who are available at the prices quoted who'd be happy being back up.

If be interested to know who'd you want to brought in (if anyone)?

{Ed001's Note - I have no idea off the top of my head sorry.}

There are so many good wingers about but the hard part is finding someone good enough to step in, and is prepared to accept that Salah and Mane will start 80% of our games.

Personally, I would just focus on a player to replace Coutinho (like Fekir) who can play on either wing or in attacking midfield.

Then I'd let the kids have pre-season to prove they should be the back up crew. If none of them are good enough short term, I'd like us to go after Lucas Vazquez of all the targets.

Putney, who’s said Shaqiri would be happy to be back up? Whilst I agree there aren’t many experienced, talented players available for that fee there also isn’t many players that have the potential to cause as much harm to the team. I can’t imagine him being sub most of the time is going to help with his selfish side. If he comes we’ll get behind him but There’s a reason Bayern wanted rid of him when he wasn’t happy being on the bench.

Vazquez would be amazing. Is there a chance he would want to move mk?

Not sure if Vázquez would leave his role as second fiddle at Real Madrid only to play it again at Liverpool. Also, neither Vázquez nor Shaqiri can play on the left, while Moses Simon plays on both sides and I'd like to think he's young enough to be happy making the step up and competing for minutes on the pitch. Vázquez and Shaqiri should go somewhere that they will be first choice, like Leicester, Southampton or West Ham. Unless of course the plan is to play a right-winger with Salah as a striker. However, I think Klopp wants another pacy wide option, and neither Vázquez nor Shaqiri are particularly pacy, while Moses Simon is.

Don't know much about him MK but is he realistic? I imagine he'd cost more than we want to spend and why leave the RM bench just to come to ours?

Swish, I think Shaqiri needs us more than we need him, his career is on the verge of fizzling out. I also reckon this bad attitude thing has been exaggerated.

I would have thought that unless we can find someone versatile enough to play many positions like perhaps Fekir would have been able to do, I would have thought the best plan would be to either play young players more to have them ready as cover (Wilson and Woodburn particularly) .

Even better (short term) would be to buy someone who has absolutely no intention of sitting for 75% of the time and getting the odd cover match or a few minutes here and there. Someone who is realistically good enough to challenge for a starting spot and let them fight it out for their place in the team.

For me, the absolute worst way of building a squad is buying in people whose job is to sit on the bench and be around just in case. If you're looking at a player who at 26 isn't good enough to challenge for a starting spot in your team, they have no business joining your team. To me, any game time Shaqiri is given is wasted time that could be given preparing a future star or keeping a player ready to make opponents afraid happy. If Klopp wants him then fine, happy to go with it and will cheer him on like every other player as long as he behaves. But I won't pretend I like the idea of bringing him in because to me, he's just replicating the mistakes that we've been making for years that bought us the forgettable tenures of so many players that we never gave a full chance for because against the talent in our team, they just never merited it.

Putney I agree with he need us so who knows - could be his last chance at a big club as his current trajectory isn’t ideal. Bayern to inter, to stoke suggests there May be some substance to the talk about his attitude.

{Ed002's Note - I wouldn't put Liverpool below Stoke, but maybe....}

Agree Hjikle and MK - bring in someone like Fekir who’s flexible enough to play attacking midfield and cover the wings and you kill two birds with one stone, then you can rest Mane or Salah without a dramatic drop in quality but you don’t have someone sitting on the bench most of the time either. Then use Wilson or Simon or another younger player as the backup player and let them build experience with substitute or rotations as they’ll be happy on the bench and getting the odd game as they learn.
