With butland in mind why does a player who signs need to have guarantees of being first choice? For the first time in a while we as a club can attract players because we can compete for the major honours. previously we have had to sign players and make these promises to convince them to join us over another club.

Now it should be a case of we want you at Liverpool and you are here to prove why you should be in the first 11. Robertson being a prime example. If players aren’t happy with that arrangement that's fine we will move on to someone who is willing to fight for the shirt. Plus they should have the belief that they are first 11 material not have someone just hand it to them on a plate.

Giving players guarantees just makes them complacent IMO.

Also forget the money, I. e. ‘30m makes them a starter’. the only thing that makes them a starter is if their good enough to displace someone in the current 11. And it’s not my money so the club can spend what they want.

The only way this transfer makes sense to me if if Klopp thinks that Butland can push Karius for the number 1 spot and that we can get most of the transfer fee back from the sales of Migs and Ward. I just hope we don’t end up paying over the odds for this player.

The only way Butland is coming for that amount of money is if Klopp thinks he is an upgrade on Karius. I can't think of too many keepers costing so much money sitting on the bench in World football. I mean, what is our record fee for a keeper? Yet some think a £30 million one is going to sit on the bench?

We don't know what the fee is or if it is actually going to complete, macca said from his point of it was almost done. But fees are through the roof and we know we were looking at competition for Karius. Navas is no upgrade on migs and reina is good but not sure if he was seriously considered.
So taking butland as just an addition to the squad its good business as he can push karius to be even better and has pl experience.
As i said in a previous post my options would of been ward (but he has probably indicated he wants to play regular and we messed him around this year) or allison but his fee may of been to large or he may not of been interested.
Either way the only deal i would consider klopp getting wrong is caulker so let's give the boy a chance, if he signs.
