Hi ED 02, hope you can answer a question please, if we did sell Mo for 200m would the club get the funds to reinvest?
Thanks in advance.

{Ed002's Note - It doesn't work like that I am afraid.}

Ed02, I know finances are a no go on here, but would be great to get your insight on why it doesn’t work like that?

{Ed002's Note - I am not going to start explaining Business 101.}

I have a question for those who are asking ed about finances.

If Mo were to run down his contract and leave as a free agent, would the club not have any funds to replace him? This salivating over a hypothetical "fund" always happens after a sale, but when has it ever worked this way?

Is it because JK has implied several times publicly that he has to sell to buy? Is it because there was seemingly a connection between the Coutinho/ VVD/ Alisson transactions? It's never been the case for LFC despite what the common narrative has been. If JK was held to this practice, he'd have Brighton's squad right now, not one that took 600-700M to build.

@mftjones

It’s the same school of thought as posters that are asking where the Caicedo money has gone.

It’s not a pot of money labelled “transfer budget” sat ready to spend like on football manager back in the day.

Money will be made available for the right players at the right price.

I agree there is no jam jar with a ‘transfer fund’ label on the front but there is one - at least perceived - exception: the ‘Coutinho money’ - which is generally recognised as being the reason we were able to purchase Ali and VVD.

Coutinho is the gold standard for buying low and selling high. The one shining light for FSG and haters all the same.

And Pogba and Maguire (in time) will be the reverse - buy Sky high and sell low.

If the Saudis pay the £215m being mentioned now we can replace Salah maybe sign a long term Dm player and pay of the debt for the anfield road end ?.

Interesting that we're talking about spending the 200m+ on players when availability of money was not really an issue for the summer window gone.

Right now, it's not obvious how our transfer strategy would change with an additional 200m in the bank as we don't really have a sporting director in place.

Based on the rumours I would have though it’s obvious what happens next

- Salah to the Saudis
- Kylian to the Kop
- 200m from Saudis to the Qatari’s

?.

There’s obviously funds available if a player that the club want becomes available. Sometimes the player is happy coming to Liverpool, other players want to go elsewhere. That’s life.

The thing is if the club identifies a player they have a good idea of what they need to pay. If what they are willing to pay matches or exceeds what the selling club wants then (usually) Robert’s your mother’s brother.

The other thing is that when the club decides what they are willing to spend, the actual amount varies for each player - the right player at the right price, as we say. So, the right price for, say, Endo wasn’t the same as the right price, say, for Diaz.

All in all, over the past two or three years most of the players we have brought in have, imho, been value for money - Diaz, Gakpo, Macca, Endo, as examples. I thought at the time, and still think, we paid too much for Nunez - he could be a great player in the right system but that system seems to be plan . B or C for us. I also thought we paid over the odds for Don, but having seen him in the matches since the start of the season, I now think that I was likely completely wrong.

Don = Dom.

Genuinely hope we spend the money on the next 35-50mil rough diamond ready to burst onto the scene.
