Reports today suggesting the two most likely names for the DoF role are Paul Mitchell from Monaco and Christoph Freund from Salzburg.
Both would be good choices from what I've read.

I'd like Ed002 opinion and breakdown of each if possible.

{Ed002's Note - Christoph Freund is a really great guy but RBS through and through now with a completely open hand in an organisation that offers numerous future options. A good choice but I suspect he won’t move this year. Paul Mitchell I have mentioned before, I know him well and he would be a fantastic choice if allowed to do his job. I would not bet against him joining if the structure suits him. Either would be step change from what Liverpool have had in recent years (negotiators rather than specialists.}

Ed02 in your opinion what sort of role should a DOF have at Liverpool to help drive the club forward ie what do you mean by "specialist"? I ask because i basically have no idea of what a DOF does nowadays.

{Ed002's Note - It needs a football person with the skillset to sit above the playing side of the club and the recruitment system.}

Ed2. Both sound very good. With limited information available I have been researching both. Paul Mitchell comes across really well when listening to him speak on YouTube videos on his time at Spurs and the project he has built at Monaco. Two questions regarding Paul Mitchell. Is he our number when target for the DOF role? Second question and probably hinges on the owners empowering him when hiring. But is he someone who is strong minded to tell Klopp no on extending contracts for certain players, identifying potential incoming players and importantly moving players on? Klopp is a brilliant manager but is lacking in those area and needs help… IMO.

{Ed002's Note - The first choice has already rejected Liverpool. Paul Mitchell will now be the primary target for the club. He meets all of the needs of a good modern day DoF and although not the best in the business he would be a great option.}

Ed002, I think the operative phrase is "if allowed to do his job. " That is my fear and why I keep posting that we need a DOF who will get the backing and will be strong enough to stand up to Klopp. In my opinion, identifying and scouting talent is not Klopp's strong point. In my view Klopp needs to stick to coaching the club and leave the recruiting to the DOF and his/ her team. Should he have input? Absolutely, but he should not be the final decision maker. Kind of like a General Manager in American sports.

Hi Ed002. If you would be kind enough, who was the first choice who rejected us? Paul Mitchell would be a good choice as well. An English DOF will drive youth development more IMO and with increased HG quotas in the future this is the way.

{Ed002's Note - I am not getting in to naming people.}

Ed002, mentioning Paul Mitchell not being the best in the business, if he or any other prospect were to join, do you think Liverpool provides a DOF the potential to grow in their career? What business attributes is a DOF is looking for in a team/ organization?

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool are not looking to find someone to grow at all - they want the finished article. Paul Mitchell is very much that

Have you been approached about the job Ed, or would you be interested if you were?

{Ed002's Note - probably not.}
