Hope you are well,

I know you have told us what you know. However, regarding the potential takeover is it safe to say there is just pure speculation regarding MIddle east interest especially Qatar. Just being a die hard fan and seeing the links with utd just makes me wonder if we would fall behind them financially if they are taken over by middle eastern owners.

Didn't Rick parry turn down that bid? hicks and Gillette didn't have a say when fsg bought the club if I remember correctly.

I believe the Dubai bid was a couple of years before that stage gmil, maybe circa 2008? I think Hicks and Gillett only got the power taken out of their hands when they defaulted on an RBS loan in 2010. I could be remembering things wrong though.

You're right, Babbity. Or at least, I remember it the same way. The Dubai bid came like a year or so into H&Gs time with us but was rejected by one of them (I can't remember who) . After they looked like they couldn't pay the loan in 2010, RBS took over the sale of the club and basically forced both of them to sell to FSG.

David Moore's had agreed a deal with DIC in December 2006 and Gillet and Hicks upped the bid in Jan 2007 and the board at the time wanted the bigger offer. Moores then went back to DIC and told them of the offer from H and G. DIC told him they had agreed a fee and if the board don't commit to it by the end of the day then DIC will walk away. Moores came out and said no body black mails him and sold the club to H and G. It was all about the money.

Didnt dubai offer 500m for the club when hicks and Gillette owned the club this was their second attempt to buy the club after Moores reneged on an agreement to sell to them.
