Ed001, lots of rumours regarding Szoboszlai tonight, can’t say I’ve seen much of him other than the YouTube clips. Have you seen much of him and if you have, what do you think of him?

{Ed001's Note - I did watch him a while back as he was supposed to be the next big thing. But I have not seen him play for probably 3 years now.}

I’ve never even heard of him me.
But on YouTube he looks like a better Curtis Jones ?
That’s my in depth scouting analysis on Szoboszolosziboziski.

{Ed025's Note - i hope you dont get him LFC8, his name is too long for me to give him stick mate..

Imagine the cost of getting that name on a shirt.

Youtube is a nightmare for player insight haha although supposed to highlight players ability it did nothing for Gravenberch, he looked awful.

Seen him play a lot in the Champions League and the Nations League. Really classy player. Left footed set piece specialist, glides past players, can score all kinds of goals, can see a pass, whips in dangerous crosses, works hard defensively (although he's not naturally good at defending), and nerves of steel from the penalty spot. Just a really good young player and he will be a complete attacking midfielder in the very near future.

Right footed*. Apologies, Typo.

Just to add he was excellent against England especially in the nations league and scored the winning (right footed ?) penalty. Looked like a young De Bruyne.

Nothing quite like a Youtube compilation to make a player look good. Milan Jovanovic looked world class. Oussama Assiadi looked like prime Maradona.

1. Dominik - it is easy
2. obolai - easy
3. Sz before and after Obo

Szoboszlai

how is it?

{Ed025's Note - still a mouthful Sami. Can’t you just sign Yerry Mina or someone like that?..

Yeah you can't judge on Youtube, Lamborini. I've watched enough of Thuram to make him look like a hybrid of Vieira and Yaya ? but until i see him play live I'll reserve judgement.

Szoboszlai is the real deal though. We'd be really lucky to have him. He's versatile enough to play on the left or right of both the midfield 3 and front 3. I wouldn't say he will make the same instant impact that say Barella or Milinkovic-Savic would, but he probably has it in his locker to become a better player than they are when he's 26-28 years old. Mac Allister left, Szoboszlai right, with Thuram central sounds good to me on paper. Then when Trent steps inside we'd push Mac Allister and Szoboszlai into the frontline as both aren't shy of a goal and that might also release Thuram to wander forward too. Got to go and get the deals done now though.

Classy indeed. Doesn’t seem capable of hitting a shot or a pass without using the outside of his boot.

Szobo means "room" in Hungarian. Szlai, slay, mmmmm ?
I reckon we go for "The slay room".

. or just "Slayer" for short.

Szoboszlai plays as winger in a 4-2-4, AMC or winger in 4-2-3-1 and number 8 with a free role in 3-1-4-2. He has always two defensive midfielders behind him (Haidara and Laimer) and Henrichs or Simakan playing right back (or CB), both very defensive. If you want to compare him to someone, you'd have to compare him to Salah because that is kinda where he plays. Or good old days Coutinho when he always had two between Fabinho/ Henderson/ Can/ Gini to cover for him.

Now imagine him playing with Fabinho and Mac Allister in midfield. With Arnold right back and Salah on the wing. It will not work. He is not that type of player at all. There's no balance here, we would be completely exposed. If you have someone like Thuram or Kone on playing RCM and Szoboszlai playing LCM with Roberton protecting him then yes, it could work but we've a certain Mac Allister who will most certainly play LCM and also Thiago Alcântara.

It's not the player, it's the system. If we are talking about a winger to substitute Salah then yes, it would be a great deal. If we are talking about a RCM, it's a terrible deal and would not work.

What you want for the right side is someone who will bring balance and cover for Arnold to do whatever he wants and I'm 100% sure it's not Szoboszlai. If this were FM or Fifa yes, it would work perfectly. But it's not.

SolidState, you make some good points but I'd like to point out that aside from Fabinho and Thiago, almost all of our most capped midfielders under Klopp started as wingers.

Milner (RM for Newcastle/ Villa/ City)
Henderson (RM for Sunderland)
Lallana (LM for Southampton)
Wijnaldum (LM for PSV/ Newcastle)
Elliott (RW for Fulham/ Blackburn)
Jones (LW for Liverpool u21's)

Also you didn't seem to factor in that we do virtually play with 2 holding midfielders now because Trent steps in there alongside Fabinho as part of this hybrid right back role. This system was actually pushing Henderson towards the right wing anyway and he was often overlapping Salah on the outside. Jones equally was pushed up just behind but in-between Diaz/ Jota on the left wing and Gakpo/ Nunez through the middle. So i'd envisage Mac Allister will be pushed into those areas where he is great at sliding a pass in behind or arriving late in the box himself.

Further to that I thought you were being harsh on Szoboszlai defensively, so I double checked whether the stats support my eyes telling me he works very hard. He actually ranks in the 87th and 89th percentile for blocks and clearances but also the 63rd and 57th percentile for tackles and interceptions (for attacking midfielders/ wingers) . It might not be his strong suit, but he works seriously hard defensively and isn't that weak. I don't get the Salah conparison at all. He's much more like De Bruyne, Brandt, Lindstrom etc.

Personally i think you're underestimating how versatile and adaptable he is. I also think you're not truly considering where our right sided midfielder ends up in this new system with Trent going into midfield. Henderson is wider than Salah at times.

Seen lots of good posts on Szoboszlai and Thuram on here with lots of posters bigging both up which is exciting to hear as I’ve never seen either play off the top of my head.

Just one tiny detail now is we need to actually agree to pay a fee and get them to sign on the dotted line. Otherwise we’re just praising other teams players.

How about if he signs we call Slobber? I have no idea why I want to call him that but I just do. Probably time for me to visit the chaps in the white coats again.
