my take on everything is that our performances have been title worthy in 3 of the last 4 seasons. We are having a necessary blip to retool and be competitive again for the next 4-5 years before we re-tool again. CIty had their blip when we won the league and re-tooled slightly to go on another run. I think we're allowed to as well.

That's a fair assessment of our previous few seasons, this season is more of an unecesessry implosion leaving us falling into to the same endless pit of delusion, despair and bitterness that we have recently delighted in watching our closest rivals and Everton try and climb out of, on the plus side trees look nice this time of year, slowly fading away, then losing their leaves before a long, cold, dark, winter seemingly without end .

I really hope you’re right Faith - and we have been here before during the C.V. season and bounced back.

Spot on, OP. Like it or not, we are in a rebuild and if it took us over 3 years to build this legendary team then, it’s going to take the same amount of time to rebuild the second one at the minimum. So people had better get themselves a nice, tall glass of patience and perseverance cos that’s what it’s going to take.

I don’t really get annoyed anymore because
The results seem fair to me
We need so many players that until investment
Comes in - all the articles the pundits can keep
Talking losss of form bla bla it’s all nonsense

We need a new forward line
A new midfield all 3 so that Thiago fab hendo elliott can be on the bench
And a centre back

Then we won’t really suffer with injuries witj some new blood but also give these main guys a rest - salad vvd Robertson Thiago

- transfers! That’s the answer

Man City had a awful season that year when lfc won
Lfc can start again next summer -.

Clocks went back last night and I woke up this morning hoping they had gone back as far as last season where we almost won a quadruple.

In fairness the quad gets mentioned so many times this season I thought we were still actually on for it.

Imagine going from almost winning it all, playing every competitive game we could in a season to needing half a new squad in five months.

Should have brought in midfield reinforcements in the summer. We failed to. Losing two consecutive league games to the teams in the bottom three is unacceptable. Once is a fluke, twice is symptomatic of where we actually are.

It’s all very well saying we’ll “retool in the summer”, but how’s that going to work without champions league football to attract and pay for the best players? Because at this moment in time our form is very much closer to relegation strugglers than champions league contenders.

JK, you need some coffee early in the morning, mate. You're the only one mentioning "the quad", and your buddies are happily singing along in the chorus. ??.

I genuinely hope you are correct Faith, and also hope that Klopp can reinvigorate the team. Seems to be too many under-performers at the moment to fix in the transfer market alone though which worries me. This decline reminds me of when it all fell apart for Houllier, Benitez and even Rodgers after relative success in the previous years. I don’t understand what has changed or what the players mindset is currently, but my gut says this is worse than a blip/ seasonal reset, and that Klopp might walk at the end of the season.

We don’t need half a new squad, of course not. Elliot would look a different player if the 2 players alongside him could actually move. Replacing Fabs would be a very big step in the right direction. We are just so easy to play against atm, Fabs is a ghost.

{Ed001's Note - Fabs can move, at one point yesterday he opened up his legs and flew across the ground. It is not that he lacks mobility, though being tall it takes him a bit to get going. It is these tactics. They are leaving everyone exposed because no one is closing down (as we used to call it). Liverpool have always been a team that closed down the space and gave the opposition no time to play, since the days of Shankly. Last season we lost the press and until we rediscover it, we will always be easy to play through because opponents have time and space. That has to start from the front.

The biggest worry for me is that the press is never going to work under Lijnders as he clearly doesn't understand the press judging by his comments about how Jota is a "pressing machine". One of Jota's biggest weaknesses is his inability to press, he is terrible at it most of the time, anything but a "pressing machine". If this is what Pep thinks is a player that is good at pressing, then he clearly doesn't get it and it is no wonder our pressing is so terrible since he stepped up as the main coach. It won't matter who is in midfield if the attack is so out of sorts off the ball. It is a team game and the whole team is failing at defending.}

Aray I’m the only one mentioning it now as there is a maximum limit of mentioning it 1 million times to posters so quite a few hit their limit back in Sep.

I’m keeping the bandwagon rolling mate.

Interesting and accurate reply Ed001. I take from it you'd want Pep gone or at least away from the first team?

{Ed001's Note - or just no longer in charge of coaching but back to being one coach among many.}

Any murmurs from within the club that this could happen soon Ed.

{Ed001's Note - none that I am aware of, no.}

Thanks, Ed. I have accepted that the press is none existent so far this season BUT is the lack of press a concerted effort or a tactic cos if it is then, someone is completely out if their depth.

The press has been who we are under Klopp so if we don’t do it then, we are sitting ducks cos we were never a team that is good under constant pressure. We always took the fight to the oppo. so if someone is telling the players not to press and that guy needs his head checked. That said, I’m not sure this team is capable of even sustaining the press at this point cos the legs don’t seem to be there, imo.

{Ed001's Note - it is the new way of playing.}

I don’t like this digging out of Pep this is Klopp’s team and squad and everything ends on his shoulders. If what people are saying is true then Klopp is not half the manager we think. On one hand he is the best manager in the world but on the other he is so stupid to give total coaching power to a guy that hasn’t got a scooby.
On the Fabs point, I am digesting your points.

{Ed001's Note - it happened to United under Fergie, but that didn't stop him being the best in his era. Sometimes he just picked the wrong assistant and the style of play suffered and they struggled. The change needed is the assistant sometimes. While the buck may always stop at the top, it doesn't always mean he is the one that needs to be changed.}

Agree with everything you say there about Fabinho being exposed Ed. Our midfield doesn’t Close opponents or press them anywhere near like we used to and I don’t believe we have the personnel capable of doing it regrettably. The amount of room in our midfield for opponents to play in is quite shocking. The only game we’ve actually pressed and closed down was the City game and I don’t know if that was an anomaly or whether it’s taken so much out the players they’re still recovering. I know one thing, we can’t take any more performances like that again.

Ed was that similar to Gerrard loosing his assistant he had at rangers as in he had the right man and he took another job and that was the end of gerrard at villa.

{Ed001's Note - Michael Beale? Certainly a lot of Rangers fans believe he was the brains behind Gerrard's success. Beale did take training, so it was a big loss losing him as Gerrard was not on the training pitch most of the time. It was a big mistake as Gerrard is apparently a very good coach, but he wants to be a manager, so he handed over control of training. It does seem very similar to the situation with Liverpool, you are right.}
