We didn't play well last night. Mane is a great player but he is appearing to hold onto the ball too long which results in defenders getting back or him losing the ball, where in the past he was intent on going past defenders. As regards their goal Mane was tracking back on every occasion he needed to help Robertson but he was substituted they literally had a clear run ending in scoring.

Last night was one game I was hoping sturridge wouldn't be brought on. We were clinging on to the game.

There's no doubt that Liverpool took a massive forward step in the summer and I think it is going to take a bit of time to get used to playing our new dominating football. I, like many, thought it would be seemless but I don't think it has been. Let's hope it all clicks soon. We have had a run of ridiculously difficult games, a win to city and I would say its been a fairly successful run.

Anyone looked at our win rate since buvac left? It's not title winning.

Buvac this? Buvac that? Pls MM, let it go. We have all moved on from him so why are you still hanging on this red herring exactly? It's not like we were challenging for the title when he was here and NO, him not being here does not mean we will win the PL either. So what's the story? Buvac is a red herring, IMO.

Plus our win rate isn’t too shabby this season.

I'm not making any definite accusations. We are not playing as well as we did last year and I am wondering why.

One issue being Mane given the number 10 role which has shifted his winger role to more a Coutinho role. He simply cannot! That’s like asking Sane to fill in David Silva’s shoes. Mane is at his vintage best when he does the Zaha or Sterling.
Our front three just aren’t getting enough input form the midfield. Last season they created themselves, this time around teams double mark Salah / Mane and we are just done!
We need to play high up and need bodies in the box. If 2-3 players are marking Salah then there is space left out by those which need to be occupied by our midfielders.

No pron, MM. You can say that w/ o invoking Buvac, really. Now addressing that point. On the whole, we have not played well enough this beginning of the season BUT you must agree that we have more points (8) than we did at this point last season. Conceded just 9 goals in 9 (all comps. ) while at this time last season, we had conceded over 15. We have played Spurs, Chelsea, LC, and CP (all away from home) and picked up 10 points out of 12. that is 6 points more than last season so tho I agree that we have not been on form, the improvements are there for all to see.

A lot of things can be attributed to why we are not playing well. Salah is off form, front 3 not clicking, midfield still needs the right combo and most of all, we are NOT taking our chances. The last part is my biggest beef. Last year, we were taking our chances BUT our defence (early on) was leaking goals. Now, it is the opposite cos had we been a lot more clinical, Chelsea would have been soundly beaten in the Cup game (before Hazard even came on) and the Chelsea PL game could have been won even tho a draw was a fair result. A lot for Klopp and the players to chew on. Good thing I'm not the manager. I do fully expect a reaction vs City tho. Up Da Pool!

Harry, Is it too much to ask that you speak about an LFC player without these tedious comparisons with other players at other teams that ONLY you seem to give a rat's arse about? Also, Mane was never given the no. 10 role. What he was given was the license to drop deep and get on the ball (something he is currently failing at for right now) so again, where did you get this from?

I get the feeling of a crack in a dam. And that sooner or later someone is going to get 6 0ed and then Keita will score in a 4 0 and then the goals will spill. The midfield need to carry the ball longer and draw the defenders around mane, bobby and mo. Keita tries to do it and the ox did it last season. Wjinaldum could do it if given the role I reckon.

I didn't mean my post to be an attack on klopp and Co, I love them. I don't think we have won by 5 goals since buvac left.

BRover

“License to drop deep”
Exactly and that is completely opposite to what he has been doing over the years and what his strengths are. Mane is a direct player! Do you disagree?

The comparison are examples to make people understand the difference between two players and positions!

Fair point, Harry that Mane is a direct player BUT cos he is able to drop deeper shows his ability to be versatile and add to his game. It definitely does not mean Mane is the designated no. 10 cos he is NOT and we don't play with one either even if Ox was fit.

Now on the comparisons? I ain't buying that. You are the ONLY one on here who does that on this site. We don't need any of that cos it makes no diff. to the conversation. We are talking about our players and what qualities they bring or don't bring. Many of us are NOT interested in them being compared to x or y player who does not play for us as that does not impact us in any way. Wishful thinking and fairy dust don't win you games, man.

Our players play for us and we do not want them to play like any of the fantasy players you keep mentioning cos that will NEVER happen so why bring it up? We want them to play to the best of their ability, not to the best of someone else's and not interested in them playing or doing the things you or anyone else wants them to do. Cheers, man.

How are we not playing as well”?

You mean our games aren’t finishing 5-3 anymore?
We’ve won 6 games out of 7 in the league having played Chelsea and Spurs.
Champions league we’ve won one and lost one in the group.
League cup we lost from a winning position after 2 late goals.

The World Cup takes its toll on players who don’t hit the ground running when they return. Who is “playing as well as last season”? Not City, not Spurs, not Man Utd in fact not any of the top 4 from last season are playing as well.

{Ed002's Note - Perhaps Liverpool should have a year in transition after every tournament they have players appearing in?}

Excuses for winning 6 out of 7? 😁

Our problem is fans perception that we’re not playing as well.

We’re not “attacking” as well, but we’re defending a lot better. The overall trend is positive 👍.
