Two players at 100 million doesn't replace 4 midfield players tho mighty red, question is do we have the budget or willing to push the budget to get two more mids in.
Im hoping bajcetic Jones and Elliott aren't being considered fabinho/ hendo/ milners replacements.
Good lads but young and nowhere near as much experience.

Andre is more like a Thiago replacement the way he plays. Very good at getting the ball forward and good on the ball. If we get him would suggest to me Jones, Trent be needed to play a DM position more. Either that or we play in a new way.

I’ve been on this site a couple of weeks at most. I have to say re the new season and our team, our transfer activity etc, I’m not anxious I’m not worried it is what it is and I have to afford some trust.

There are lots of relatively untrusting comments on here, and then a number of good posts about opinions on games, on tactics, on formations, etc that are better reading (even if opposite to my thoughts) and less than scathing about intricacies we ALL just don’t know about.

I make my judgement and determine my trust on a few factors including the Manager (his press conferences and his body language, etc) a manager who is a quality manager one of the best, definitely IMO the best at motivation and gelling a team if not as good as (for example) Pep at the tactical and transitional game. If he really felt he was that far off having a competitive group or butting his own head at a wall that just won’t budge I am sure he has more than what would be considered an escape route. But I think he is personally a winner and definitely a man of pride and expectation.

He isn’t looking forward to escaping he’s looking forward - from what I can see - to doing what he does best, building and gelling and doing that with what he has in his toolkit.

Yep he says he wants some more infusion and yep as a fan I want another one or two in but no, I don’t know what Jurgen and his management team see in the squad we have today. He does and my view on the body language is not one that distresses me.

Let’s see I may be wrong but I’m not going to judge in advance.

Lavia is raw I agree, Jones has played 12 more games I believe than lavia.
Lavia is more experienced playing DM tho, which is what we need, ideally I am would like to see us get a more established player in tho.

On the contrary I hope Elliot and Jones bajetic are the replacements but I suspect more they are the replacements of Milner ox and naby so in my head I would still expect 2 more players coming in.

Daretodream. Jones played with Gomes in a deeper player position in the U21 Euros England won. Some great players in that tournament and he stood out. With someone next to him he could do it. I'm only guessing what Klopp may do. This transfer window has been a bit odd and we look unorganised in terms of replacing Hendo and Fabinho.

I can't believe Liverpool are going to walk away from Thuram/ Kone, and pay more money for Lavia. Unless it's a squad requirement thing, that's crazy too me.

I have no doubt that Jones could do a job for us at 6, but I don't think using the U21s is evidence that he will step into that role at the mens level. The 6 role requires as much mental strength as it does physical / skill. And for Jones as an older U21, with more experience than the other kids is a prime candidate for 6 at that level.

He can do it, but to me his strengths are in the attacking part of the game. It was good to see him grow his awareness at the back end of last season so that he wasn't just looking for his shot around the box. I'd love for that to continue to grow rather than see him have to adapt to a more defensive position in the senior team.

What's so difficult to understand? every club assess players and their values. if the club doesn't agree with a player's value set by his club, what's the problem of not meeting that and try to nego further down? no different to everyone of us when we do our shopping for i. e. clothes, right?

I think the flaw might be that some people think that the DoF has a sack in his office that contains all the “transfer money”. When ‘our man in Riyadh’ gets back with the Hendo and Fabs money we will have at least £52m in a bulging sack, so to speak. So, Robert’s your mother’s brother, jump in the car, down the M6, the M40 and then the A34 down to the M3, count out the £50m (with change left for a cuppa on the way back) . Stick the young lad, Lavia, in the back of the car and we are set. We then sell Phillips, Matip and Gomez and whoever else we can think of to fill up the sack …. simples.

I’d think MacAllister is capable of playing in a 6 role, particularly if alongside Trent who may be asked to play in a deeper playmaker role this season.

While bringing in a purist CDM should be a priority, I’m sure Klopp wouldn’t be letting Fabinho and Hendo both leave without having a plan.

@GrinchRed, of course we need to replace Ox and Keita. They played a resounding 987 minutes together, an average of around 5 whole games apiece last season. Who else do we currently have that can play that number of games? We are doomed if we don't replace them.

All joking aside, I do think we need at least one more midfielder, preferably a DM. We would then have midfield options of Mac, Szobo, Thiago, Jones, Elliot, Baj, and a new DM. That's 7 players for three positions. We also still have Morton around but I'm not sure what the plan is for him. I would like to see him get a chance but Klopp does not seem very keen on him.

One more midfielder would be a plus but I think the next area we should be focusing on would be at LCB. We look quite light in that area since Robbo and Tsimikas both do not seem very comfortable playing there.

Let’s be clear, we need 6 first team midfield players with maybe 1 or 2 additional players around the fringes (youth with potential) . Of these 6, we need four who can be box to box and two who can play in a more defensive role. This would be irrespective of whether TAA plays in the underlap role that he is trying since late last season.
For the four box to box or more offensive roles we have Alexis M, Szoboszlai, Harvey Elliot, Thiago / Curtis.
For the defensive role we have Thiago / Curtis and need one more starter.
The youth who can stake their claim are Baj and Morton. And then we are also seeing a good deal of Bobby in pre season though I am not sure if he will go on loan or stay.

Where I am going with this long narrative is that I still see a lot of posters talking about getting in many players because 5 midfielders left and we only bought two. But if you look at the progression of Harvey, Curtis, Baj and Morton, and the opportunities needed for further progression / maturity, I feel like we only need one. I say this also because I am hoping we can give the younger ones some more minutes in Europa League than we could have done in the champions league.

To be honest, I was one of the few saying last season that we don’t need another midfielder and we have a lot - and I know I regret that opinion now. But feel like leaning towards a more conservative direction this season as well.
