I was at the match today.

Firstly, Brighton looked amazing. They were really slick on the ball. Moved it around so well and positively. They could have had more than 3. They also constantly pressed the few times Liverpool had the ball. Well done to them. They've come a long way.

Secondly, Harvey Elliott and Konate were some of the few players to acknowledge the away fans at the end. Elliott gave his top to someone. He seems a great lad.

As for Liverpool, it's hard to know where to start. The main thing I noticed was their slow, ponderous passing - they'd string one or two together and then do a long ball and give it away. Physically, they were outrun and outmuscled by the Brighton players. I don't know if that was down to desire or even nutrion.

Finally, after the first 10 minutes it looked like we were in for a bad day. The changes came very late in the game. To be honest, the problems looked a little deeper than just being short a midfielder.

I got the impression that we did actually try to press high, but it was very poorly coordinated and lacking energy.
Salah and Gakpo were pressing but Ox was miles off, causing a huge dog leg that easily let Brighton out.
Thiago was stood almost in the CF position on their restarts and the rest pushed up but Brighton often went long, turning Fabinho and Henderson.
Thiago spent the first 70 minutes jogging up and down the pitch, unable to get in the game. He could have gone for an 8k jog with me for all intents and purposes.
Contrast that with Caicedo and MacAllister who were up and down like a fiddler’s elbow.
I don’t think we can play the Klopp all-out press at present.
The players look jaded, and short of confidence.

We can’t play a pressing game. We have to play 10 men behind the ball, compact and counter. Been saying it since Fulham.

This wasn't a Brighton masterclass Juicer I was at the game and have seen Brighton play much better it was just the most abject Liverpool performance.

That’s a typical Liverpool performance, it’s becoming normal.

For all the criticism he’s had for missing chances, I think we’ve realised just how important Darwin Nuñez is when we don’t have him on the pitch. Brighton defenders were very comfortable without him on the pitch, and with Mo struggling we had no outball.

Yeah, we really missed Nunez today. Gakpo would have offered a lot more on the left had Nunez been available.

Yep, or even Nunez on the left and Gakpo central would have potential. Gakpo never had any space because Brighton’s defenders just ignored Ox.

I was at the game today and the thing I noticed was how high we would play (fullbacks marking their fullbacks) but we didn't press them. It was just odd. Seems pointless playing that high a line if you're not going to press at the same time. So easy for them to pass out (which they're good at) and then left players like Matip up against Mitouma which is always a mismatch in pace. On the ball we were far too slow, and it really looked like the players feel a bit lost and not sure what to do. Confidence looks low and you could see it in certain players who usually don't show that side.

Fair play to Brighton, I watch them a lot and they're a very good team who are growing and getting better but we made it so easy for them.

Konate and Trent bailed us out a few times but that's about as positive as it got. Fair play to the Liverpool fans left in the stadium at the end, they were still singing and showing support which isn't easy after that kind of display.

Only Alisson came out with any credit, for me. Their third goal was really awful.
Gomez looks to have really lost his way. He's all over the place.
But he's not on his own.

I thought konate kept us in it until half time. Maybe my memory fails me, but the last time our defence looked confident was when Nat Phillips played.

The way Brighton attacked, particularly down the left with constant overlaps and interplay, was how we used to attack. Playing 2 up too with a sort of CAM behind completely stifles our fullbacks attacking threat - it’s an awful tactic and one that we shouldn’t be playing. Trent and Robbo are two of our best players, setting up in a way that completely hamstrings a big element of their play seems ridiculous to me.

We all seen a battering coming and Brigton aren’t even a great side they’ll be around 7th or so when the season ends Villa and Arsenal won there easily enough.

We were lambs ready for the slaughter from the off and any team with any ounce of tactical nous would have taken us to the woodshed so Brighton didn’t do anything special since they didn’t even need to break a sweat to thump us which tells you how much trouble we are in.

We don’t press anymore, end of so no point asking about it. Also, we played our fullbacks high without pressing and it seems we played Thiago in the advanced role? Seriously, who is doing the tactics cos clearly we have NEVER set up that way?

Someone mentioned Nunez absence. Others have mentioned we are not the same without Mané.

What about Salah? New contract, mega payrise and escaping all of the blame. Yet he is barely doing anything right at the moment. He seems exempt from blame even when he doesn’t put a shift in. Which is often. If he doesn’t score, we are playing with 10 men.
