A lot of people forgetting la liga gave certain teams a Wk off because players where away the English FA where not so nice! Makes that hard victory last nite even sweeter!

Some people really need to give their heads a wobble don’t they? People forget that we’ve got a terrible record against Simeone’s AM. They are set up exactly to deal with teams like us. To disrupt everything good we do. It just plain angers me to watch so I dread to think what it does to the players to play against it.

We started like a train last night and Madrid had no idea what to do with us then they suddenly remembered they had some world class footballers and what do you know? Some football was played. Both teams started the second half trying to gain the upper hand but when Griezmann got sent off the next 10-15 minutes were AM players doing everything they could to stop the game -winning fouls, getting players booked, harassing the ref, fouling etc, until we started playing side to side football for a while just to get control of the game and initiate some flow.

Our penalty was exactly that because hermoso ran with eyes only on Jota to take him out, their penalty claim was the opposite. Jota got the wrong side but their player initiated the contact and dived. I’m surprised it was overturned, but it was no less than we deserved.

Yes, Keita should have done better for their second, yes Alisson bailed us out, but that was never ever going to be a free flowing beautiful game because AM set up to destroy first and score second. Everything must be done on their terms. After all it is much easier to destroy something beautiful than to create it.

QV, bang on. Simeoni seems to be highly regarded by some but for me it is all for the wrong reasons - he is a great defensive coach and destroyer, but i am yet to applaud any team he has lead or enjoy any football his team has produced. And he showed his real colours last night.

We were not at our best last night and Keita showed his abilities (goals) and his flaws (defensively) last night, but i enjoyed the fact that the team battled through a really tough game and came out winners.

Hope Anfield shows Simeoni what a real atmosphere feels like in the return leg.

YNWA.

Agree with all that Quo but think Keita should have done better for their first as well. Lemar went by him like he wasn’t there. He’s far too casual, far too often for me. He’s never 100% at it which is what our midfield needs.

The ironic thing with Atletico is, when they go for it and play attacking football, they’re a top side and very tough to handle.
Whilst they employ a five man back line defensively, I don’t think that their recruits are up to the standard of yesterday-year yet, your Godin’s and such like.
And Simeone’s touchline antics, while they’re great for getting the team and crowd revved up, he loses it when decisions go against him and this is reflected in his team’s behaviour.

Simeone is holding Atletico back. They have some world class players but he has them playing like Burnley. They would have a chance of winning the Champions League with a decent manager. They will never win it with the black-suited Dyche.

AM have some insanely good attacking players in Greizmann, Lemar, Suarez, Joao Felix and decent creative midfielders. Their set-up does not always play to their strengths, which is daft, as they could rip teams apart if Simeone gave them the word.

Quo Vadis

They had a man down and we still couldn't get anywhere near to them. What are you talking? our midfield was crap yesterday.
