Sepp VDB

Ed's do the club see Sepp as a long term solution for the LFC squad, and does the player want to integrate or make a permanent move to Germany?

{Ed002's Note - I don't know what the player wants but I expect Liverpool to sell him on in the summer.}

Should be given the chance to replace Matip next season. I don't think it's fair that Quansah has been given an opportunity in the first-team and VDB never has. He's not done much wrong on any of his loans apart from a freak injury at Schalke.

Agreed BR. Not that I think we should hold back Quansah either but you'd like to think he'd be given a shot especially seeing as Gomez is more a utility defender in my opinion and Ramsey apparently not being fancied. That said I have thought this about many young players the club have let go and I can't think of any we've been wrong about.

Further to my above, any idea what the plan with him is ed002? Purchased as a promising young full back to provide Trent cover with Bradley out on loan, but not had many opportunities (although looked good when given them) and now looks a million years away from the squad. I don't really understand why we bought him?

{Ed002's Note - I doubt he will get a chance at Liverpool and he could leave in the summer.}

Maybe multiple trophy winning Liverpool coach Klopp thinks Quansah is a far better player and prospect? And from what I’ve seen I agree.

It's not fair? Lol. Life isn't fair. VDB has had 4 preseasons to impress Klopp and failed every time, Quansah grabbed his chance in the summer and is now seeing the benefits. This is professional football not some school team where you get a medal for participating.

Nothing to say he doesn’t take his chance in the next pre season to be fair.

Quansah is miles ahead of any centre back in his age bracket. Maybe Colwill and Braithwaite match him that’s it. I forget Gvardiol’s age these 4 players can hit to the very top. Jarrel looks like he can hold a place in our defence already and for years to come.

@Babbity - what makes you think SvdB hasn’t had a chance?

His performance in training and games will have been / is being monitored by the club. If his performance is deemed up to the standard required he will be in the first team squad next season, if not I think he’ll be sold.

It’s not a case of being ‘given a chance’, it’s a case of having to prove that you can reach / are at the level required to be given the chance to be in the match day squad.

Quansah is absolutely top drawer, and then there is the supposedly elite level young CB bought from West Ham.

Perhaps Sepp is better suited to the German league from a footballing and cultural perspective. He is doing rather well over there at the moment.

I do know Shalke have had him watched numerous times and they have had some sort of talks with Liverpool.

It's not fair that I hit 38 without getting a chance to play for Liverpool, either.

Bring him back in the summer and have a look, has impressed wherever he's been on loan apart from a bad injury. He's been out gaining experience and shouldn't be just dismissed because Quansah has come along. Who's to say they can't both have a future here.
