2 quality midfielders with plenty of time left, and hopefully the funds for whoever else they deem as a worthy target.
Would folks prefer these 2 signings so far or Bellingham?

Bellingham but they look like smart signings and not a bad plan B.

Look at what FSG managed to do with 12 million pounds.
What cost of living crisis? ?.

If we get Lavia too, what a window.

OP, are you coming or going?

Definitely…. I think we’ve got two exceptional players for less than Bellingham would have cost .
Brilliant window so far .

Too soon to say now, Flash. If a 3rd midfielder is added, I'd say FSG have once again shown commitment. If a CB is added to the midfielder, then I'd say they're going all out to win the league.

But the worrying part is wondering who will leave? If the usual suspects leave it's okay. But I wouldn't be happy with a Salah or an Alisson leaving to recoup some of the spend.

Naturally I would have loved Bellingham but I think he was always going to Madrid once they showed interest. Additionally, we need 2 or 3 midfielders so I’m happier with the 2 acquisitions so far and the likelihood of another one coming in as well.

I'd would like a quality addition for the back 4. I'd be happy at that.

I’m not sure it’s even fair to frame it as an ‘either or’.

I think our Bellingham interest was the product of a completely different time, place and vision for the team, one that has thankfully been abandoned.

For me, Bellingham was meant to be the icing on the cake of a team that required few other changes. It was a team moulded in the image of Ljinders, focusing on possession and actively avoiding the expanding of energy.

The move to this ridiculous anti-effort style of football, along with the formation that it created, needed a unicorn midfielder who could cover all of the gaps and deficiencies left by such a counterintuitive style of play.

Furthermore, our recruitment methodology had also changed. We had moved away from making smart, calculated signings, and had seemingly done away with scouting altogether. From 2019-2022, Liverpool rather arrogantly believed that their team was so good that they didn’t need to ‘force’ any signings. Instead, they would insist on waiting for 1 or 2 players to become available. These players seemed to have been targeted on no basis other than that the management had taken a liking to them, and refused to compromise on any other options, to the point where they were willing to tank whole seasons in order to ‘get their man’.

Thankfully, all of that appears to have been thrown in the bin. We have a new formation, which while I wasn’t keen on at first, now makes a lot of sense to me. We actually press again, a welcome change that Klopp has reiterated in his press conferences. We now also appear to have gone back to our old transfer approach, based on collective decision making and shrewd acquisitions, never allowing ourselves to get hung up on any player, or indeed becoming embroiled in a media circus like that which now follows Bellingham.

None of this is to say Bellingham wouldn’t play amazingly well for this new look Liverpool, of course he would. I just think that the rationale behind his signing was formed according to a vastly different strategy than the one we now have. I think it’s fair to say that we all are happy to see that strategy, and all that came with it, seemingly gone for good.

I am far happier with the way things are now going than I would be sticking with that Lijndersball rubbish, only with Bellingham in the team. There is nothing there to mourn.

ArAy you can’t say that FSG would have shown commitment again. They’ve done what was needed, but don’t kid ourselves they’ve hung us out to dry prior, as last season proved.

I’d be happy with another good defender and be satisfied with our business. Yes Lavia would be nice, but I’d prefer another year of Thiago and risk Fabs gaining some form. Just me however.

so anyways, as ed2 and others have said repeatedly, FSG don't sign the players. but we get the point about the aesthetics of signing a player being pleasing to the eye. But can we not then go and add layers to it?

Like, oh only if they sign a 3rd midfielder would they really be showing their commitment. really? what's the end game here with the FSG critique?
