Good news that gomez has signed an extension.

4 quality CBs imo.

Mr. T

1.) 07 Jul 2022 16:33:39
Great news.

Great guy.

Imagine if we had Maguire in the back line. What a nightmare.

2.) 07 Jul 2022 16:43:39
Good stuff, a Rolls Royce Joe!

3.) 07 Jul 2022 17:04:54
Square Tomato had already informed us around 2 weeks ago that it was done.

4.) 07 Jul 2022 18:20:38
Klopp says Gomez is England's best centre half, and I'm inclined to agree.
Hard to believe that some wanted him sold, mainly just so we'd have to sign another centre half!
It takes all sorts.

5.) 07 Jul 2022 18:43:57
How long is it please?

{Ed014's Note - 5 yrs

6.) 07 Jul 2022 18:47:16
Thank god he's signed up. Thanks square tomato mate. Time to force himself back into the starting line up. definitely better than maguire and Tyrone mings.

7.) 07 Jul 2022 19:36:55
Without injuries he’s a brilliant back four player.

8.) 07 Jul 2022 23:21:42
I've forgotten against whom it was (but he started and finished the game in place of TAA last season), but I was amazed to see him actually dribble and run by his direct opposite a few times with ball at feet. Not exactly what you expect, or see, from a CB nowadays.

9.) 08 Jul 2022 08:32:03
Utd signed Maguire for 85 mill.

We can field a backline and keeper of

Kelleher, Trent, Gomez, Matip and Robbo that cost us 11 mill.

10.) 08 Jul 2022 09:36:15
Before he got massacred at Turf Moor he was starting to look like Virgil - definitely give backwards since then but will hopefully grow again. Him and Konate could be amazing in a few years time.

18 Jul 2016 18:32:58
Ed01. Is there anything in the Medel rumours. Lazy recycled journalism?

Cheers pal.

Mr. T

{Ed001's Note - I don't know mate, I will have to check, I would never take any notice without triple checking as he is one of my fave players.}

1.) 18 Jul 2016 19:55:41
I'd like this to happen if only to make an ed happy!

2.) 18 Jul 2016 20:34:21
Medel would be a quality signing. He's an utter nutter on the pitch, his aggression and commitment is fantastic. I remember his performance for Cardiff vs man city where he basically ran the show. He's a pivotal part of that great Chile team.

3.) 18 Jul 2016 20:40:03
i think he would be a great signing and upgrade on lucas. could cover for centre back position if opponent allow us, if we want better protection in away games he is the answer as he is not only good defender of the back 4,he is solid disturber of the ball, aggresive and good positioned. really like him as a player.

4.) 18 Jul 2016 21:09:09
I like the sound of can and Medel in the middle.

5.) 18 Jul 2016 21:38:24
Thanks ed01.

I remember you rating him a couple of seasons ago, has he performed in Italy? I believe that's where he went?

Let us know when you know buddy.

Cheers.

{Ed001's Note - he certainly did in his first season, but I never followed his progress last season.}

6.) 18 Jul 2016 22:46:35
It makes more sense than signing this lad from Augsburg.
Medel is a very good midfielder as well as being a capable emergency centre back.

7.) 18 Jul 2016 22:17:54
Cheers buddy.

8.) 19 Jul 2016 01:07:36
Actually Ron, I'd say it makes more sense than Wijnaldum.

9.) 19 Jul 2016 01:50:43
Now this is a signing I'd love to see, but some how I don't see a deal happening.

10.) 19 Jul 2016 07:17:57
But why would we sign a DM when 99% of people on here said we don't need one? They're an irrelevant player according to most. There isn't a tougher tackler in the business so surely he would be a needless buy whom most would rather us do without?

{Ed001's Note - he is more than a defensive midfielder, he is a playmaker from deep.}

11.) 19 Jul 2016 07:51:35
Eds that doesn't stop the fact that DM, deep lying playmakers were all mentioned in the same breath with most saying they were nothing more than a modern fiction I think Ron called them. An uneccessary anacronism. Like you eds I like the guy and think his kind of player is what's been missing from our midfield. Plus he can play CB if needed. Just a shame everything points to it being untrue.

12.) 19 Jul 2016 12:08:38
Np I was one of the people I think you're inferring about. However my point anyway was there's no point having essentially a third cb playing in midfield who contributes only when we are without the ball. I would need a bit of convincing regards medel however he is certainly capable of starting attacks and making runs from deep to the edge of the box that results in goals for him also. He does while maintaining good positional discipline and would slot in a midfield 2.
This is completely different from say playing a midfield 3 where you have one basically playing as a free roaming cb who doesn't get on the ball much and doesn't contribute to an attack. This in my opinion is a waste of a player in a 11 where the 2 in front should be competent enough to not be baby sat through a game because they have no positional discipline when without the ball. Of course when you have a strong midfield 2 like this you can then field an extra winger/ attacking midfielder/ striker which should contribute more to the team as a whole.

19 Mar 2014 10:28:33
Morning eds.

I really don't think we need to spend a massive amount in the summer - BR seems to have the gift of improving players and creating an atmosphere and team spirit that everyone believes in.

I think maybe a mobile, defensive minded midfielder, a left back and a left sided forward is what we will go for.

We have Suso to come back and Texeira will be a year older and from the little I've seen of him looks very promising.

Maybe the way for us is to promote from within, do what Barca have done. We have the coaches to do it now it seems.

Can't wait to see where we are in another 9 games time.

Question for eds,

Do you have any knowledge of what will happen regarding Johnson/Enrique next season?

Are they viewed as first team players for next year?

Cheers guys

Mr. T

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any plans at this time to sell Johnson or Enrique in the summer.}

07 Dec 2013 23:40:02
Good 3 points today.

Malumbu of west brom looks decent.

Any teams interested in him eds?

Could be a clever purchase!

Onwards and upwards

Mr. T

{Ed001's Note - yes there has been a few times looked at him. Pulis wanted him for Stoke, Southampton considered him prior to the arrival of Wanyama.}

12 Aug 2013 10:39:06
Hi eds.
With Downing looking like he's off to West Ham, are we looking at replacing him? I know we have Sturridge and Aspas who are left sided right forwards but I thought Downing was a solid squad player. {Ed001's Note - we already have replaced him, we are looking for a left sided forward to allow Coutinho to play more central now.}

Mr. T

It's my 40th birthday tomorrow.

On a proper downer now ?.

Mr. T

1.) 26 Jan 2024 12:33:34
many Happy Returns, Mr. T.

2.) 26 Jan 2024 12:56:32
Turning 40 doesn't hurt as losing Klopp does.

19 Jan 2024 08:14:37
Hendo - great signing for Ajax! Think he'll do well there.

Mr. T

1.) 19 Jan 2024 09:05:06
He will love Amsterdam, I lived there for 6 years but not being a professional footballer I am sure I will have enjoyed it more. I did play weekend football in Amsterdam and the quality of the amateur game is a lot higher than the UK.

2.) 19 Jan 2024 09:48:53
Good luck to him.

3.) 19 Jan 2024 09:55:17
Fair play to Hendo he grew the game in Saudi and now he’s off to grow it in Holland.

He’s grown more things than Alan Titmarsh this last 12 months.

The Dutch love their technical footballers so not sure how Hendo’s leadership and workhorse abilities will go down there. But good luck to him.

4.) 19 Jan 2024 16:46:01
I'm shocked there were not even whispers of him maybe coming back to LFC.

{Ed025's Note - he was coming back RR, but when he was going to sign he tripped on his rainbow laces and broke his legacy mate.. :)

5.) 19 Jan 2024 17:28:33
Good one, Ed025, I like it.

{Ed025's Note - hes gone from Saudi to Amsterdam Rome....where getting stoned has 2 very different meanings mate.. :)

6.) 19 Jan 2024 20:17:33
You'll find him slumped in the BlueBird coffeeshop.

{Ed025's Note - eating space cake and having a crafty puff.. :)

7.) 20 Jan 2024 11:37:33
Talking from personal experience 025?
Have you done the "coffeeshop slump"?

{Ed025's Note - i have done Amsterdam a couple of times Flash, but this body of mine is a temple mate so no artificial aids for me...except ciggies and booze of course.. :)

8.) 21 Jan 2024 09:54:55
I'm not shocked. Hendo was poor in his last season with us and I'm more shoked that Ajax want to sign him!

9.) 21 Jan 2024 09:56:13
At least whatever he ‘grows’ in Amsterdam it will be legal.

10 Jun 2023 20:39:50
Inter the better team so far. Look very good.

Mr. T

1.) 10 Jun 2023 21:58:10
Well City have done it. They didn’t play in every game but not far off so hopefully next season they are knackered and have their off season.

Ederson gets some stick but he was colossal for them in the last 15 mins.

2.) 10 Jun 2023 22:06:24
Yeh JK ? by the logic of the Posters on here, they should finish 5th next season because of the hangover.

3.) 10 Jun 2023 22:07:20
Ederson was foot perfect that’s true but it really annoys me how they are hyping up that “save”. It’s a truly horrendous miss from lukaku and was headed right at Ederson.

Fair play to City though they have won the treble and in truth have been really poor in both the Fa cup final and the champions league final.

{Ed025's Note - it was an awful game Wassa, not as bad as the liverpool spurs one but really poor mate..i just hope all the guys on here who were looking at Barella to be a liverppol player have changed their mind, hes worse than Tom Davies..

4.) 10 Jun 2023 22:16:57
Agreed Ed, Barella was a massive disappointment. I know it will sound like sour grapes, but I don't care, but those who say cheaters never win, look at City. City get away with it, but Everton will get the book thrown at them. How is that fair? The system is broken.

{Ed025's Note - i fully agree stone, the system is not so much broken as corrupt mate, i wont be congratulating city im afraid, they have cheated their way to these trophies..

5.) 10 Jun 2023 22:21:13
Poor game and I thought city where lucky enough to win but no doubt they best team in Europe.

6.) 10 Jun 2023 22:26:13
Wassa to be honest mate the saves were decent and nothing more. But the one thing I thought he did that was colossal was the catch he made at the edge of his box from the free kick. Inter had massive momentum there and he showed a big of guts to come and win that ball.

7.) 10 Jun 2023 22:42:40
I was trying to be as nice as I could by saying it was broken. Corrupt is the right word Ed. Anymore, football is like watching professional wrestling.

{Ed025's Note - it really is stone, i think (or hope rather) that we will have another Lance Armstrong situation and their titles will be stripped if and when they are found guilty, its the only way to clean up the sport mate and if Everton are found guilty they should face the wrath as well...taking trophies off us might prove a little more difficult though.. :)

8.) 11 Jun 2023 07:04:47
Chances are that, if City are found guilty, they will receive a fine amounting to a little more than the cost of a Sheikhs sock collection.

{Ed025's Note - hopefully not IDOG, but would it surprise me?....no..

9.) 11 Jun 2023 13:34:39
IDGin, Quite possible as you state, but that in itself won’t act as a deterrent to anyone in the future, let’s say that Sheikh buys Man U, then spends like mad - which would auto increase players costs and wages due to the money being spent, bending the rules for a fine will aid it happening again.

Only stripping titles gained, trophies gained, during periods the “guilty spending “, and clawback money’s generated for titles etc. Award titles to 2 nd place etc and cups too.

Then u have to consider the action for the club, which hits the fans, that I don’t like, so it has to be directed at the owners for punishment if guilty. what would hurt the owners re punishment, ideas anyone?

27 Dec 2022 08:36:41
I'm happy with Gakpo - he knows where the onion bag is!

Hopefully we have funds left for one of the rumoured CM's though otherwise its pointless.

A car won't function if the engine needs repairing.

Mr. T

1.) 27 Dec 2022 09:00:12
OP, why is it pointless? We currently have more bodies in midfield than in attack where we have only two fit strikers in Darwin and Salah. I applaud the deal cos it was a case of what the team needs right now.

Also IMO, I do not think Bellingham, Fernandez or Amrabat will be available this winter, that much is clear to me so it is normal that our priorities shift elsewhere.

2.) 27 Dec 2022 09:12:37
Fair play to the owners they are potentially looking to sell the club so I thought there was no way they would also look to invest in players in Jan but they’ve gone and proven me wrong before the window is even open.

3.) 27 Dec 2022 09:41:26
Bodies has never been the problem in midfield, there are around 10 players. But you can’t truly rely on any one of them. The 3 yesterday got cut open so many times they were all over the place. I know you love Thiago Oli but the last 2 games he has been shocking. When his passing is not on he becomes a liability.

4.) 27 Dec 2022 09:53:55
The owners have been decent I think. They understand top 4 is a must for so many reasons.

5.) 27 Dec 2022 10:43:29
Mark, that is not the discussion here so try to stay on topic rather than finding the opportunity to slate the team when game analysis is not even the topic here. Also, I never mentioned Thiago or anyone in my post so again stay on topic, bro. It's embarrassing.

It is clear to anyone who can count that we have way more fit bodies in midfield right now than up top whereas we have two fit strikers available. It's a numbers game, end of. So Since you cannot move midfielders on till the summer to bring others in and we are more than lean upfront, a forward was clearly needed right now at this moment and Im happy we got it done.

6.) 27 Dec 2022 10:58:54
@OliRed, spot on - in summer we had a lot of mids out injured and people clamouring for signings to cover the shortage. As you say, we currently have 3 of our 5 strikers out injured. Odd that when we buy a player to cover the shortage (the club having learned it’s lesson last summer) the same people say it’s an odd decision.

7.) 27 Dec 2022 11:04:28
Of course it’s part of the discussion. Whether we should have invested in the midfield first. We don’t have a problem creating chances. You say It’s a numbers game, try telling that to Forest fans. It’s about quality in the right areas that counts.
Hopefully a midfielder will be coming in this window or top 4 will be much more difficult.

8.) 27 Dec 2022 11:15:39
We don’t have the information but last I heard from Klopp was Firmino is a week away and Jota will be back beginning of February. If those dates have been pushed back then of course there is logic. I personally would still have invested in the midfield and gone 2 up top if needed.

9.) 27 Dec 2022 11:43:28
Olired we do have plenty of bodies in the middle your right!
But Nearly all are unreliable!
Ox nope
Keita nope (dirt)
Hendo gets tired fast
Fabs needs back up
Milner he’s getting on and picking knocks up
Elliot still only a kid
Carvalho only a kid and finding his feet
Thiago great when he stays fit
Jones he won’t make it
Melo he be gone
There’s not one solid engine in there what we need.

10.) 27 Dec 2022 12:02:55
Mobility in the midfield is the problem . Thiago just can’t run and fab and hendo aren’t as mobile as 12/ 18 months ago.

11.) 27 Dec 2022 12:47:56
@Mark who cares about Forrest? Are they trying to win the title? Again, what in da heck are you on about? You're all over the place. We are talking about what is happening right now, not what coulda/ shoulda/ happened in the past. As for a midfielder coming in this Jan, I propose you don't hold your breathe on that cos there is NO indication that Fernandez or Bellingham (the ones Klopp actually wants) will be available and we all know what Klopp does when he doesn't get who he wants. He does nothing. Just saying.

@Jay Dub, same goes for you in response to your post. We have bodies coming back in midfield now as we speak so it is normal to prioritise another area of more urgent need in attack with only 2 fit strikers currently in the squad. No brainer here, IMO esp. since the two top targets we have in midfield are not available this Jan and Klopp will not sign a soul if he doesn't get he first options. This is what we all know. Don't hold your breathe on a mid coming in this Jan, at least I wouldn't.

@WDW, it's the same thing, really. They cry for reinforcements and when we do get them, they cry again cos it was not the one they twanted as if the club gives a rat's behind what any of us thinks. As long as I can understand why a move was made, I don't have to agree with it cos I have NO control over a darn thing anyway. We needed help upfront RIGHT NOW with two fit strikers available and we got it done. If one can't understand that simple reality then, that's on them. Peace and Love to you all.

12.) 27 Dec 2022 13:46:55
You change you mind on every post you were banging on about numbers being important. You see the game differently to the rest of us. No bother.

13.) 27 Dec 2022 13:54:17
I just thought getting Gakpo was a great bit of clandestine business; something that has, and often was, the Liverpool way. The front line needs reinforcement given the injuries we’ve had and that’s what is being done.
I do think it’s unfortunate when young players in particular get written off before they’ve had no chance to really get going. Klopp has the right idea - if they are good enough, they are old enough.
Let’s hope we can close the gap over the coming weeks and use the squad to keep players fresh.

14.) 27 Dec 2022 14:43:10
I think you have consider that if we never acted now someone else would have given the season he was having. The fee was relatively low for this day and age and with further injuries in the squad and the need to make top four it made perfect sense.

We are also still competing in the FA Cup and CL. He looks a very good prospect and has pace to burn (along with Nunez and Salah) . I think we will punish teams more on the break in the second half of the season.

15.) 27 Dec 2022 15:07:13
Mark, that is the point of a debate. It took you a while BUT you figured it out at long last.

16.) 27 Dec 2022 15:53:31
Quality is needed right now, not quantity.

17.) 27 Dec 2022 18:42:35
Why do people think that buying a forward means that we won’t be buying a midfielder? The two things are completely unrelated. It seems Gakpo may have been a target for awhile. He was available and the club moved to get him at a reasonable price before we lost out on our target.

The window isn’t open yet and people seem to be suggesting without any evidence to back it up, that we won’t be buying a midfielder. Face it, these days we haven’t got a clue who the club are targeting for this window - which, personally, I really like.

One thing I will say is that they move quickly when they have to to get the players they actually want even if, like Diaz and maybe Gakpo, they bring their transfers forward if they think they will miss out by waiting.

If you go back 18 months we had Sadio, Bobby and Mo, as our clear starters with Div and Taki as back up. Now we have Diaz and Carvalho on the left, Jota, And Firmino for the middle with Salah and Doak on the right (Doak admittedly is a kiddie) and Gakpo and Nunez who can play anywhere across the front. I’d say we are potentially a lot better placed than we were.

18.) 27 Dec 2022 20:36:39
If salah got a knock top 4 be miles away
Least with gakpo we have a chance scores and creates seems a good lad with bobby possibley moving on makes sense replacing him because that front 3 is near impossible but we've whipped up 3 of the best young talents from last season
Hopefully we get a midfielder there's plenty of time left in the transfer window.

18 Dec 2022 14:18:40
Gutted for Konate - deserved to start imo.

Mr. T

1.) 18 Dec 2022 15:05:45
Wasn't he stricken with some sickness that's working its way thru the squad ?

2.) 18 Dec 2022 15:38:17
His stock is rising by not playing. Absolutely terrible defending by the French.

3.) 18 Dec 2022 16:07:11
Glad he's not playing, we have a game on Thursday that he'd be perfect for ?.

4.) 18 Dec 2022 16:59:09
I would have thought the finalists will be given some rest.

{Ed001's Note - players usually have to have time off after a tournament according to FIFA rules. Isn't it 3 weeks?}

5.) 18 Dec 2022 17:23:27
If its 3 weeks we've none of the Brazilian or England players until after New year's day. I'm sure Klopp said they all get a week off and we'd see them "when we're back in England".

{Ed001's Note - that's why I said usually as I know they changed it for this one because it is midseason. Just not sure what it is for this one.}

6.) 18 Dec 2022 17:24:32
Straight back playing, I think.

7.) 18 Dec 2022 18:58:55
Jeez. I’ll bet England is going to feel COLD after being in Qatar/ Dubai. Hopefully no stingers.

8.) 18 Dec 2022 18:07:34
Not questioning you Ed002 mate. I could be wrong and dreamt what I said.

{Ed001's Note - I am totally unsure with this one as they have changed so much to get a midseason tournament.}

Absolutely agree with your comment on Naby. I've not seen anything really said about though.

How he was paraded with Milner and Bobby I just don't understand. They both gave everything for the club. Naby didn't even break a sweat.

Don't understand it at all.

If I was Naby, I would have done the decent thing and refused.

I'm surprised they actually found some pictured of him playing to actually put in the frame!

Look. I think Curtis Jones has what it takes. His biggest challenge will be getting a run of games.

You've got to be top drawer to displace Fab, Thiago and Hendo.

Those people who think Hendo is past it etc can do one. Been a giant these last few yrs.

Let's just enjoy seeing this awesome crop of Jones, Elliot amd Carvalho battle it out.

Not many teams have better youngsters than us.

Here's to another season of joy. and another pre season of nonsense rumours and opinions.

If I was Salah, I would have signed ages ago. Surely a footballers dream is to become a legend, someone synonymous with a club. Someone who is talked about for generations to come.

Mo has the chance of becoming a real legend (Daglish, Gerrard level) at Liverpool - why would he not want this for the sake of playing for a different club for a couple of seasons. what if it doesn't work out for him?

No way I'd risk my legacy.

Just sign Mo.

He's carried the team for the last 18 months or so. Still got a lot to offer.

Let's say we let him go for 100m - that doesn't buy his replacement.

Salah guarantees 20+ goals a season, he's never injured and lives a clean life of the field - plenty left in the tank imo.

If CDMs are going for 100m, just image what it would cost to replace him. and who with?
