Hi Ed’s I know not really a Liverpool question more of a financial question.

If the news reports are correct and Barcelona are indeed terminating Luis Suarez’ contract how would that work financially would they have to pay the player the remainder of his contract and of so why would a club do that why would they not just keep him as support if they have to pay him anyway.

Surely his contract protects him from simply being released without pay or does that change given the lack of time left on his contract.

It just seems like a strange way for the new manager to stamp his mark on the club and it’s been confusing me how it’s even possible.

Thanks for all the work fellas.

{Ed002's Note - If they were to release him from his contract then it would have to be paid in full and he would be required to agree.}

Out of his depth here Koeman. I know Suarez is divisive as a man but he's still a pretty good player - sure I read he was on Barca's all time scoring list after a relatively short time there - and to simply discard him, and others apparently, is just posturing by the new manager. I give him till Christmas before he's gone.

{Ed002's Note - He would have gone regardless - Barcelona has an aging squad.}

So why would a manager take action like this when it makes no financial sense depleat any funds you have just to get rid of a player. I would understand if he was causing problems or if he was a terrible player just seems like a crazy move. Thanks for the reply though ed.

{Ed002's Note - He was offered as part of a deal to another club and didn't want it. The decision was not just that of the coach.}

johnnyr1970, Suarez was already heavily rumored to leave this season already so nothing is changing and Koeman clearly does not fancy him anyway as he is clearly way past his best.

Surely they could have got a few £m for him though Ed002 - feels like cutting your nose off to spite your face if you just pay him off.

{Ed002's Note - They want him gone.}

And Messi too it would seem, for a bang average manager Koeman isn’t exactly giving himself any kind of chance here is he.

{Ed001's Note - Suarez has to go, his knees are shot. They are carrying too many players that are not contributing enough. Do you not watch us play and then understand why Barca want rid of all the older players that do nothing off the ball? What Koeman is doing is the right thing. They need a clearout.}

If it was a manager with a decent pedigree Ed0001 then I might be able to understand it a bit more but as I expect him to be fighting for his job in mere months I'd have thought it would be the experienced players who might just pull him through his first season. How do you replace the goals that Messi and Suarez have contributed without spending the amount of money that I don't think Barcelona currently have available.
