Do Mainz have a buy option with Van Den Berg? And how exactly does that work? Do Lfc HAVE to sell him if Mainz are interested?

Showing some impressive stats in a poor team this season. With Xabi playing 3 at the back were going to need 5 senior centrbacks, maybe he'll get a chance to impress in pre-season.

Apologies Alwaysred, im aware of how he plays. Three or five with wingbacks, just assumed people would know what i meant. If only Xabi didn't insist with only using 10 players he'd be totally slaughtering teams.

What separates Sepp from the other youngsters that do well on loan, and why would he not be given a chance? Matip's days are surely done, and we are certainly giving youth a chance of late.

Shame if what Ed says is correct. As said if Alonso comes and implements his style we will need more CB's and he seems suited to the role of a back 3.

{Ed001's Note - Xabi always played a back 4 before taking over at Leverkusen, there is nothing to say he will want to use a back 3 anywhere else. It will depend on the players at his disposal.}

Alonso can use different tactics. The 3 at the back is because of the players he has and the league. It doesn't mean he'd do the same at LFC.

I know Alonso is favourite to take over next season and certainly the vast majority of fans want to see it happen but this thread does feel more than a little bit presumptuous.

Alonso plays the back 3 to compensate for Grimaldo, Frimpong, Stansic lack of ability to defend well he let's them have the freedom to get up the pitch where they are better.

I think Alonso plays with a back 3 and 2 wing backs as that is what he has at his disposal. In the Liverpool team he won't have that, his ethos and tactics will stay as in short passing and possession but formations are fluid and change frequently, it's not something I would get caught up on to be honest.
