Lots of talk from certain outlets about Al Ittihad upping their offer for Mo Salah, still no sign of an actual offer to upped in the first place anyway. Can't help but feel there is a lot of client journalism in play here.

If 200 million is offered as spoken about for me there is only one option - sell!
We are set to finish this season in 2-6 place with or without Mo.
We will never ever replace him as a player, not now, not a month ago, not in January.
However!
We have been here before haven't we? Torres could not have been replaced. Same with Suarez. Same with Coutinho.
Common to allof them, the sun still shone next morning on Liverpool FC. We moved on and prevailed.
There are a lot of goals in this team already, great midfield and a defence that urgently needs to be fixed in the next few windows.
200 mill buys great fixes plus some decent bets on next level stars for attack (of the ilk of Salah when we got him from Roma. )
Just my 2 cents but for the record - I DO NOT want him sold.
Just really don't think is a huge deal if he is.

£200m with a month to go is one thing, £200m with 4 hours is a no go.

But we didn’t prevail when Suarez left? Or Torres? Only reason we did with coutinho was we spent money on 2 quality signings and we’ve got no time to buy a replacement.

There is no rush to sell Salah they will still offer crazy money in January and next summer if we hold out. Mo is a good guy a sensible guy. Tell him “if you want to go okay but it’s going to be January deadline day or next summer deadline day” tell him fixed price £200m will be accepted on either of those two dates. That gives us 5 months to find players to replace him in January these would be players with fixed price clauses and players who have already confirmed they are up for the move if the clause is triggered. We hold all the cards unless Salah goes on strike which he’s so far showed no signs of. Their money will not go away their desire will not fade, the sale of Salah is now inevitable if he wants to go there but we can control when he goes there unless he strikes.

As a fan I’d rather watch Salah play in a Liverpool shirt for the next 9 months than have £200 million sitting in the bank.

If it’s a one payment of 200 million then it’s a no brainer to sell.

200m 6 weeks ago probably gets you Rice Gvardiol and Diaby maybe. What does it get you on deadline day? an 80m bid rejected for Jarrod Bowen?

Let me be clear I love mo Salah, as a 46 year old fan, for me he is the best player of my lifetime. However, at 31 he inevitably becomes more prone to serious injury, his pace begins to reduce and let’s be honest he will almost certainly go next summer anyway, and who can blame him? He has 5 years max at the top level, if he can earn 1 million a week and secure his great grandchildren’s financial security, who amongst us wouldn’t want that. So with the heaviest of hearts I’d say now is the time, if it’s 150 million, most of it upfront then it’s time. I’ll always count myself privileged to watch the man play, he is not just a club legend but a pl all time eleven and a great dude to boot.

{Ed025's Note - i dont think his great grandchildren will have any financial worries even if he packed football in tomorrow Hoody, the guy is a multi multi millionaire mate..

200 million is not very useful when you're without a replacement until January and end up languishing in mid-table + out of cup competitions.

10.) 01 Sep 2023
01 Sep 2023 20:16:17
Why do people care so much about 200 million they won’t see a penny of? I’d rather keep quality players and win something where as you lot seam to want to balance the books and sell players.

11.) 01 Sep 2023
01 Sep 2023 20:21:34
Ed025 if they bid £200m you have got to sell he is 31 2 years left on his contract. If it was VVD still in his pomp I think is a harder decision but I think we have plenty of goals in are forward line and midfield. We are not city psg Chelsea or any of the other clubs that spend money for fun. There are still very good players out there that don’t cost the earth and with that money we can build our team for the next 10 years.

{Ed025's Note - you dont sell your best players is my motto grino, but imo its all smoke and mirrors anyway mate, if they were serious they would have come in a lot earlier to give Lliverpool the chance to replace him, im not buying it..

My thoughts exactly Bean. Why are we all so worried about the money its performances on the pitch and results we should be worried about.

If you feel selling Salah will improve results then that’s your opinion but if you don’t you should never be saying we should sell no matter what money is reportedly being offered.

{Ed025's Note - im with you BP..

You think it’s like our bid for Caicedo a little pr stunt lol.

{Ed025's Note - i dont think Caicedo was a stunt grino, maybe a move to placate the supporters mate but not a stunt, the Salah bid stinks to high heaven of muscle flexing by the Saudi,s for me..

Sell for 200 and replace with 20. come on Jurgen, you can do this.

16.) 01 Sep 2023
01 Sep 2023 21:36:53
Mr bean I would take the £200m not because I will see any of it but we could sign 3/ 4 real quality players that would see are team transformed for the next 10 years. Nobody thought Salah was going to be the player he is and am sure there is more Salah’s out there. And in 2 years he will be gone for nothing so he will need replacing them with no money for him. I don’t know how long this Saudi league money is going to around but we need to make the most of it. Our owners do not splash the cash out of there own pockets so if we can get that sort of money for a 31 year old has to be accepted out of pure reality of what our club is.

Great take 200m for salah as the English transfer window is about to shut FSG will probably buy a American netball team with it and klopp will get nothing in January rather keep the player for another season im sure they will be back next summer with a silly bid.

18.) 01 Sep 2023
01 Sep 2023 21:41:59
I find the timing of the offer odd. If they were so intent on bringing him over to the league, why wait until the last day of the window to offer such an amount, also giving the selling club no time to replace? A strange tactic for me if you desperately want to sign him.

{Ed025's Note - im not having it either jones..

100% agree Ed025, simply if they prioritised Salah why didn't they go all out for him earlier in window?

People talking about the money, which is generational wealth but its essentially signalling the end of his top level career and various sporting objectives. Despite the obvious flirtation I can see him staying this season and possibly even next if we get back in champions league. He would still only be 33 and could easily still get the bumper Saudi money.

21.) 02 Sep 2023
01 Sep 2023 23:55:29
The Saudi money isn't going to run out any time soon, we have no need to sell Salah this year. Its not like Madrid / psg are wanting him and will move on to someone else or want to pay way less next year. The Saudi league want his name as much as maybe the player. They will throw stupid money at us again next year if we keep refusing. Would also point out we would still have plenty of options with jota, gakpo, Diaz, Nunez, and a few others. Don't want Salah to leave tho.

22.) 02 Sep 2023
02 Sep 2023 03:14:47
Why did they wait so long to bid?
I feel this will unsettle the team which is unnecessary.

LFC will have done well to keep Salah given the figures quoted, due to the timing of the bid.

23.) 02 Sep 2023
02 Sep 2023 04:50:30
It's not chinese superleague where every team was throwing money around, I believe it's only 4 teams throwing stupid money around and they actually have foreign quotas too I believe,

Truth is, we need couthinho like infusion of money to rebuild the squad, I know one of the eds have said over and over we are against the wall at what we can spend and Matip needs replacing, VVD has not been the same since the injury, we will need to find long term Fabinho replacement, if you look at Klopps players, those that do a LOT of running like Robertson usually don't age well, more like fall off the cliff, so possibly Robertson replacement, and depending how you feel about current forwards, Salah replacement.

24.) 02 Sep 2023
02 Sep 2023 10:06:18
Sell Salah then spend the next 9 months crying on here every day about how we don't score enough goals and how stupid we were to sell a generational talent just to get a big pile of cash.
It's amazing how money utterly blinds people.

Maybe the Saudi’s were a bit naive in their negotiations and just thought money talks?

I suspect that there will be some further talks and a deal agreed either for January lot next summer.

It might even be a different Saudi side…. But I think that they really want Mo as a poster boy for their league.

I would think if £200 million or more is offered for January then we will take it …. with some incomings lined up…. Andre, a Centre Back and maybe Bowen?
